How is Kadien straight in ME1 and ME2 but not in ME3
War changes, so take what you can get
... and writers decission as they wanted a wider portfolio of romances options limited to the character numbers and the approval of the voice actors. Thats why Tali and as are straight all time, although Tali would 'links suits with you'.
The VA's felt uncomfortable with that, while Kaidans obviously didn't bother that much.
To be fair, I don't think Kaidan ever specifically says he's straight in ME1, he just doesn't show any interest in male Shep at that point. So there's no reason to assume he isn't bi throughout the trilogy.
And even if he was straight in ME1, sexuality is fluid for a lot of people, so maybe he just broadened his horizons.

Well it may not make sense in terms of the character, but they wanted to even out the romantic options for all sexual preferences. I'm not sure why they didn't just have James fill that void in ME3. In fact, now that I think about it, it's odd James isn't a romance option at all in ME3. All the other ME3 squaddies are romanceable except Edi who is a robot. Curious.
Isn't James a possible one night stand with the Apartment DLC, pending you don't have Ashley in your party
What do you think?
