Anyone ever notice how anthropocentric the names for star systems, territories, and other stuff in the Mass Effect universe are?
In drawing up cartographic material for my own fiction, I was referencing the MEU's galaxy map heavily, and noticed this thing - I'm surprised it took me this long…
Answers as to why this is? Humans are, by no means, power-players in the context of the universe, but my thinking is…it's like the omni-tool thing; each user's native tongue is translated via the tool's software (turian => human, human => geth, etc., making it easier for us to communicate), so…maybe the same is true for the map data? Territories, systems, and the like are given usable names to each species that views them - like how Javik refers to the home-system of Eden Prime in the dead prothean nomenclature (I forget the actual name he used).
What do y'all think?
Let's have a discussion..
