When you confront the roekaar. Ryder leaves the squad behind. Something about Sam protecting him from infection. This brought up a second time when Ruth asks if Ryder is immune. The only explanation given is its complicated.
I'm wondering if this just typical plot armor crap. Or if they're implying that Sam can prevent the virus from replicating. Or that it kicks the immune system into overdrive to kill the virus.
SAM was originally created to combat Ellen's disease, and he's now fused with Ryder's system so he can probably block or cure sickness and diseases. I wouldn't really know how to explain it exactly though. 😅
Even the game doesn't explain how their connected together. Other than the obvious fact that cutting the connection is mutually assured destruction. My best guess would be either it prevents the virus from attacking healthy cells. Which would prevent replication. The profiles work by increasing the electrical impluses of the synapses. As well as increasing the production of chemicals like adrenaline. So maybe this extra surge of electricity tries the cells of the virus
The Archon cut the connection between SAM and Ryder and neither of them perished. That being said, it was evidently necessary for Dr. Lexi to keep Ryder on some mysterious medical cocktail to maintain some sort of unexplained function (from which the detox was promised to be unpleasant), but it adds further questions to how the link between AI and Pathfinder worked. As far as combating the dangerous virus, the only thing I could think of was that SAM could kick Ryder's immune system into overdrive to burn out the virus.
In a way, it's kind of sad - Ryder probably won't catch any colds and receive any TLC. No 'sick days' off from work either. Thanks, SAM.
The connection was cut however , the other twin reboots the connection. The link was weak. which is was why the first interface with the remnant ; caused the nose bleed. What gets me is how sure Ryder sounds. Sam is usually the first to point out what it can do. It never explicitly states that it can prevent infection.
When doing the family secrets quest. We learn Sam was created to help Ellen fight her disease. Other than that Sam never mentions disease immunity of any kind.
As for sick days maybe the Pathfinder doesn't get a sick day. Then again the Nexus in general doesn't give breaks. Kesh complains her workers are overwhelmed. Tann is like work harder or we'll die. Though they can't really stop the Pathfinder. So if they go to Kadara for an extended vacation. They can't do anything. Ryder is the only person in Nexus leadership that the Angara trust. If someone mucks with that . It falls apart
Though I hardly see anything romantic about having a cold . Sorry but all those nose issues. Don't put me in a mood for hot chocolate and cuddling. It's more like I need space.
It was my impression that when Ryder interfaced with the remnant after the archon took the Hyperion and the sibling, Ryder was forcing the interface alone through sheer will, suffering some brain damage in the process. It was that event which blew PeeBee's mind in that she thought that was impossible. Perhaps it was as you say and only a very tenuous connection reestablished on the most basic level. Again, it simply makes the connection between SAM and Ryder even more 'wtf'.
It seems SAM's abilities concerning infection are as mysterious as his facilitation of biotic abilities. Case in point, Alec Ryder was born before the discovery of eezo and yet displays biotic abilities in one of his profiles. Given his wife Ellen's work, it's possible he picked up some very mild exposure, but likely not enough to develop any natural influence.
As for the influence of Tann/the Nexus over the Pathfinder, it's curious how much there could be given Ryder's associations with the exiles and pirates of Kadara - and possibly the krogan (and Vetra). Unfortunately, there could be quite a bit if the unconscious Ryder sibling is still within their reach (not to mention after Ellen's tank is discovered). Although it seems doubtful Captain Dunn would allow Tann's Nexus thugs any authority on her ship. Frankly, the ingrates Tann and Addison likely could have stood a strong reminder that Pathfinder was at least as equal as any of them given Ryder was the one actually out there founding outposts, making alliances, and generally doing all their work.
If I recall correctly, Ryder can investigate one of the ... wall/consoles in the nexus to learn they are eligible for some leave in something like 5+ years. Once more outposts are established and expanded, they can release more people from cryo and possibly start giving some very brief R&R to the first-in colonists, if anyone would want to take some time off - or be ill. The suggestion of TLC was mainly in the vein of some brave and caring soul delivering medication, a blanket, and/or hot tea (or beverage of comfort) and otherwise leaving the invalid alone to recover in relative peace.
That's another thing that makes no sense to me. Even if Alec was exposed to element zero. He is too old for it to give him biotic abilities. Biotics only work three ways . One exposure as an infant causes the person to be born with biotics. Or they don't develop enough element zero in the body. After the first exposure then are exposed a second time . This time producing the desired effect. Option three Asari are naturally biotic because of Prothean experimentation.
For temporary biotics there is red sand. Though it literally fries your brains
I find it really hard to believe that Sam is powerful enough to replicate any these effects. This makes the whole connection with the Ryders. Even more of a what the hell moment.
As to the other stuff Tann and Addison literally have no real authority. Ryder went to the remnant city without approval. Yet they couldn't reprimand the Pathfinder. What would they do put Ryder in the time out corner.
If they exile Ryder or imprison Ryder . The blow back would send ripples throughout the initiative. Which ever outlaw group runs Kadara. Only respects Ryder. The Krogan respect Ryder for the drive core and for dealing with Spender.
The Angara are in the process of becoming loyal to Ryder. For continued support on the ground against the Kett.
Tann and Addison have nothing.
Spaaaace magic.......! 😆
Andromeda looks very pretty and I hear the combat praised by many, but story, logic, and characters ... not so much.
The story and characters are pretty good . It's needs more fleshing out. So I mostly blame EA.
Eh, the writers of Bioware have as much to answer for in that respect. One of them was an admitted racist and clearly all of them were terrified of adding anything at all that might have been considered offensive to anybody or anything. The story has no real depth or urgency and has a crap-ton of illogical conclusions (like why Ry-Dad didn't just share his helmet-air with Ry-Kid until the shuttle arrived). None of the characters have any real passion - love or hate. I get why Ryder and LI aren't declaring passionate devotion (took Shepard 3 games), but none of the Ryders ever tell each other they love them - and they're supposed to be a family. Ryder also can't really infuriate and drive off (or shoot) any of the crew either. There are moments that are good, but on the whole, MEA needed a great deal more polish.
What do you think?
