I know absolutely nothing about mass effect but I got Andromeda for my birthday. Is there any context or advice I should know before I start?

If you’re curious on background of something, just read the codex and you’ll be good. That’ll tell you most of the world details, you just won’t get some references and the like.
Andromeda is a *good* game, simply shat on by the internet orders of magnitude more violently than was rational.
In any case, however, my advice would be "trilogy first".
I have played the trilogy and Andromeda as they came out. I enjoyed the series all in all. But the biggest glaring issue with Andromeda was that the female characters took a drastic downgrade in the looks department with exception to Suvi and Possibly Lexi. Compared to the Trilogy, the snowflakes got to the character design department and intentionally made the female characters including Asari less sexy then the Trilogy. Even the base female character of the Ryder twins vastly looks different compared to the actual model her looks was based off of.
On the plus the combat is more fast paced in comparison to the old Trilogy. Andromeda has more of an emphasis on exploration than the Trilogy due to the nature of the Initiative.
If you finish Andromeda before playing ME1 - assuming you like enough of the ME foundational [space-opera-ish, psychokinetic powers, grim & ominous enemies, squad loyalty, love interests] stuff and want to 'get historical', chances are you will immediately hate using the Mako (rather than eventually hating it like the rest of us triple-playthroughers). The one thing Andromeda unquestionably holds over the trilogy is that it makes land-based vehicle operation far more satisfying - the least we could ask, really, since it's more an integral part of Ryder's main missions than it is of most of Shepard's.
Ehhh, tbh with the control updates in the legendary edition I got over my hatred of the Mako. It used to literally keep me from replaying ME1, I genuinely didn’t mind mako sections in LE.
I have seven playthroughs. The Mako has precisely nothing to hate about it. Think Nomad, but far superior in every conceivable way.
You don't have to tank your speed to a third when you want traction.
You have a main armament.
The trilogy knows linear momentum exists, and will account for the concept when you apply the Mako directly to your enemy's forehead.
Andromeda is good game but compare to crazy good ot is okay compare ot
If you are new to the Mass Effect universe than No Andromeda is not a bad game. All the people who I have talked to about the game who have never played mass effect before say they enjoyed it. The nay sayers are those who wanted Andromeda to be like the original trilogy even though Bioware repeatedly stated that it was something new entirely. I would say play it and find out yourself. If you like it then look for the original trilogy and play those. Comparing the 2 games is like comparing apples and oranges. They both are fruit but thats where the similarities end.
You should play the original trilogy before andromeda because you won't understand a minor plot development which references the original trilogy
Not compare to ot it good games
What do you think?
