Brutes aka Jiralhanae and Krogan are very similar... i wonder if Mass effect "Borrowed" the idea from halo, but made a few changes in their culture and backstory...

Plus there is also some similiarities between the UNSC and The Systems Alliance.
Both represent Earth’s combined military and R&D.
Both have waged a first contact war.
Both are suspicious of aliens. Etc…

Yes but so is the Klingons in that they too value strength and brute force above all else.
