If you play as soldier you must invest heavily in combat armor talent then however even then it would be only viable up to Virmire. C-Sec Requisitions Officer is where you can get that Armor with better stats.

It is easier to focus on looks in the later games.

What Lethal said because later on especially in ME 2 and 3 you will have the armor that will not be like ME 1. Only thing I will say is they do away with the I through X system that was in ME 1.

Thankfully, the best armor sets in ME1 also happen to be the best-looking ones. Colossus sets anyone?
