If this choice ended up staying in mass effect, how much of the story do you think would change if both were alive?

I'm playing as an infiltrator male Shepard. Should I save Ashley or Kaidan and which one is more useful in the long run?

Most people say it’s because he’s boring, but you can see his own laidback humor, I guess, when you talk to him often enough. And when you get to know his backstory—tragic, yeah—but he’s probably one of the least problematic and put-together of your squadmates. I get where his vindication is coming from in ME2 especially since we saw what monstrosities Cerberus had done in ME1. His loyalty to the Alliance is admirable to me, at least. I respect him sticking by his morals and duty, though it did sting a bit. And not everyone from ME1 joined us in ME2, like Wrex and Liara. So why do people hate on his character so much?

How would the narrative of the trilogy change?

I just finished mass effect one and am starting two, I romance Kaidan in ME1 and I'd like to romance Thane in ME2, but I'd also like to rekindle with Kaidan after Thane dies? Will it let me do that or do I have to choose one or the other?
