Hello everyone,
While this mainly applies to anyone who wants to make changes/updates to the Wiki because of Legendary Edition, anyone feel free to make your opinion known.
ISSUE: How should Legendary Edition's changes to the ME trilogy, either gameplay or lore/story be handled on the pages?
Right now, I've already heard from at least two people who think that LE should be treated almost like a "patch" that is "overwriting" the old ME Trilogy and that pages should be updated as if the Original Trilogy (OT) is no longer "canon."
My view:
For myself, I hold very much the opposite view. Legendary Edition is its own, standalone game. EA has released it so that people who want to continue to play the OT still can, LE does not overwrite any installs or replace it. I strongly believe LE should be treated the same way on the Wiki as well, as I feel it is disrespecting the original games to treat what is essentially mostly a collection of bug fixes and graphical reskins as if it's replacing games that millions of people have already been enjoying for years, games that had already earned a "legendary" place in the pantheon of the greatest games of all time.
Put simply, just because LE is now out doesn't mean the original games no longer exist or should be relegated to 2nd class status. Some people will continue to play them without ever buying LE. It is presumptuous and arrogant to want to treat the originals as if they no longer exist simply because that's how you personally view it, and furthermore it's just unnecessary. There can be co-existence. (Synthesis Theme plays)
There is also no need to change pages from the OT, when a simpler and easier solution in terms of updating the pages is simply to:
Create sections for pages titled "Legendary Edition" that can list any and all major changes in LE without needing to alter what's already on the page for the original games. An example would be for the Elanos Haliat page where LE has updated him to a turian model - the image for the new turian model should, IMO, be moved to such a new section instead of replacing the old portrait of him as a human.
For when creating a separate LE section isn't needed or appropriate, use Yellow Text (like what is used for notes/tips currently) to label something as "Legendary Edition" and note any updates from LE. This could be used for bug fixes, minor gameplay changes, etc.
Not only will the above solution disturb what is on the pages currently as little as possible, it is respectful to the games that came before and the work past and present editors on this wiki put in for them as well.
Well that's how I believe Legendary Edition should be handled on the Wiki going forward. Please let your views be known. Thank you.
