Short for 'Biotic Acclimation and Temperance Training', BAaT was a programme set up to train potential human biotics. Children who had been exposed to element zero and showed signs of biotic potential worth augmenting were sent to Gagarin Station (Jump Zero) by a company called Conatix for training, with support from the Alliance. Most of the children sent to Jump Zero were teenagers, who nicknamed the programme 'Brain Camp'. Stuck out in the middle of nowhere aboard a space station, they grew into close circles of friends who worked, trained and hung out together.
The central problem with BAaT was that at the time, humans weren't used to dealing with biotic abilities, and had no real idea how to train the teenagers to use them. As Kaidan Alenko put it, "Forget teaching them how to move stuff, they had enough problems making sure the kids didn't break their own limbs." Conetix thought the process was going far too slowly, and finally brought in a turian named Commander Vyrnnus to speed things along. Vyrnnus was not a particularly good teacher. Though he did help BAaT progress faster, he was also brutal with the trainees, using hunger and thirst as training aids. Finally when Vyrnnus hurt one of the trainees, Rahna, he suffered a broken neck in the ensuing melee and died. Soon after that, BAaT was shut down and the records were classified to cover up the Alliance's mistakes.
