- It looks unprofessional. If the actual name of the universe was "The Mass Effect Universe" then capitalizing it would be fine. As it is now we don't have an official name for the universe so "the Mass Effect universe" is the correct way to write it. Note the first one is a proper noun for something we don't have a proper name for, where as the second one is using "Mass Effect" as an adjective to describe the word "universe".
