Policy: Proposal Editing Policy

Description of Policy: Often when a proposal is made discussion leads to it being fine tuned or tweaked. It is not uncommon for users to have already voted and it is possible that the changes may lead them to change their mind. My proposal is that if a policy is edited after users have voted (this includes noting neutrality) then the change must be noted in the proposal and any and all users who voted must then be informed on their talk page that the policy has been amended and they may thus want to change their vote.

The default deadline is 7 days away. If the proposal is edited then the deadline may need to be amended. The new deadline would be either the original deadline or three days from when the proposal was edited (whichever is further away). However once all voters have changed or confirmed their votes and then the new deadline would be either the existing deadline or one day from when the last vote is changed or confirmed (whichever is further away).

This would make voting neutrality a more useful thing to do. It would indicate that you have not yet made up your mind but want the chance to voice your opinion should the proposal be changed.

To confirm their vote a user should re-add their signature and place a (C) afterwards. For example when editing I would replace:

#Phalanx (talk|contribs) 19:13, April 6, 2013 (UTC)

with

# ~~~~ (C)

which should look like:

 1. Phalanx (talk|contribs) 12:13, April 18, 2013 (UTC) (C)

Notes: A new "changelog" tag would be added to Template:Policy Discussion.
Supporting links or images: Cases where proposals have been edited and people have expressed unease about the practice/process particularly if votes have already been made.
