Critical error with Mass Effect 2 on PS3. Huge issue with playing the game because this image takes up the center of the screen and it affects everything having to do with gameplay.

Obviously not PS3 controls

Not photo-shopped, this is a PS3 menu with X Box 360 controls visible on Mass Effect 2.( Seriously affecting gameplay).

This is the strangest thing I've ever seen--Captainhu 19:03, August 17, 2011 (UTC)

That's interesting, because in all 5 of my plays through ME2 I've never even encountered what is shown on the screen, even in the DLC, any explanation of what we are looking at?--Xaero Dumort 19:45, August 17, 2011 (UTC)

That looks like the HUD of a Quasar machine from Mass Effect 1, but what is it doing in Mass Effect 2? LordDeathRay 20:56, August 17, 2011 (UTC)

If this is true, I believe that I have an explanation. You may not like it, however. You know how when a company designs a sequel, they usually do so with the previous game as a base model? It is not uncommon, and the creators of ME2 may have very well used the programing ME as a backdrop for the ME2. In such situations, it isn't uncommon for bits of dead end coding (such as that with the quasar gambling machines) to be imported. Occasionally, secret, removed, or even explicit content can be left behind from a projects beta stages, in a similar manner. I never actually used one of these gambling machines in either game, but it may very well be a bit of left-over coding or an unused program. I am guessing that you damaged or scratched the disc, and thought little of it at first, but something that you had later done in the game triggered the coding. Because these aren't meant to be accessed in the first place, there is no fail safe whatsoever. I sure hope that you have a backup save file if this seems to remain after reloading your save. If so, attempt to play an alternate file and/or create a new file and then see if the heads-up display remains fixed in the center of the screen. If this is so, than do not fret (as much), this may just be a permanent disk problem. Give it to someone who is interested in documenting these errors, return, or exchange it for a new disc if possible. I don't know how PS3 works, but if your save remains on the console hard-drive, than activating it with the unaffected programing, you might have no problem. This may be a little more than you asked for but... shit happens. --{{SUBST:PikapiSigMini}} 22:31, August 20, 2011 (UTC)--{{SUBST:PikapiSigMini}} 22:31, August 20, 2011 (UTC)

That sounds pretty accurate. I mod KOTOR and TSL, and I use the Kotor Tool program on a daily basis. When I look through the TSL UTCs (characters), I see a whole bunch of imported, unused characters. Example: Uthar, Saul Karath, Mekel, etc. So your explanation has some merit. LordDeathRay 06:12, August 21, 2011 (UTC)
