When Flamer hits its listed DPS[]
Theoretically,
- at 0 seconds: 3/8 damage
- at .5 seconds: 1/8 dot "tick", 3/8 damage from second impact
(for first second, Flamer has done 7/8 of listed damage)
- at 1 second: 2/8 dot "tick" (two stacks), 3/8 damage from third impact
- at 1.5 seconds: 3/8 dot "tick" (three stacks), 3/8 damage from fourth impact
(after second second, Flamer has done a total of 18/8 of listed damage over 2 seconds, which is 9/8 of listed "damage per second" damage per second).
In other words, after 2 seconds, your average damage per second rate is at least the listed damage per second rate, not after 2.5 seconds.
This seems to be verified by the tests here: https://web.archive.org/web/20160731151725/https://forum.bioware.com/topic/399196-flamer-mechanics-explained/

- Ah yeah, just for clarity, see the test entitled "Weird stacking mechanics flamer 4 stacks" on that page. each DOT tick is a half-second, so it mirrors the expected results from my above theory-crafting. (Thelee (talk) 17:53, June 20, 2013 (UTC))
Flamer 3k vs armor[]
Need some harder numbers and specific stuff. Even under peddroelmz's test, it looks like "only" 1,600 dps against armor is obtainable, maybe slightly higher with better gear. (Thelee (talk) 18:49, June 20, 2013 (UTC))
