No upgrade kit in second tunnel[]

My edit to this effect was reverted, so bringing it up here as suggested. I'm playing on PC. There's definitely no upgrade kit inside that second tunnel in the Mako section. Hwoosh (talk) 18:40, November 7, 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the info -- I'd like to get some more confirmations from some other platforms, maybe, please? Come on, editors! (Maybe appears on one platform and not another.) Trandra (talk) 22:18, November 7, 2016 (UTC)
I only have a PC, so I can't help out with that myself, unfortunately! Are there many other differences in level design or any other form of game content between platforms for Mass Effect 1? I wasn't aware that that was the case. Hwoosh (talk) 22:21, November 7, 2016 (UTC)
I'm not sure, honestly. I played on Xbox, but I don't even own it anymore so I can't double check it. I would think not, but I'm hesitant to change walkthrough info which has stood without anybody else noticing until 8 years after the PC release. I suspect the original walkthrough was written with an Xbox version. Trandra (talk) 22:32, November 7, 2016 (UTC)
as far as i can recall there hasn't really been any incidents where item pickups were exclusive to some platforms or another. that said, i did a quick check a few minutes ago expecting to debunk the initial claim only to be proven otherwise. gaming master race platform, of course. So, I did a little more digging. Check out these old reverted edits to the page where this guide was originally housed: [1], [2]. People found the same inaccuracy in the past and edited the walkthrough accordingly, but it was always reverted and never got to the stage of the conversation we're having now! Someone also noted the missing upgrade crate in question on that article's talk page in 2014, but it seems like no one ever bothered to check. Cheers! Hwoosh (talk) 23:22, November 7, 2016 (UTC)
I think we can put this to rest then. I rolled my edit back. Trandra (talk) 15:48, November 8, 2016 (UTC)

Restarting the VI...[]

The goal is to move the column to the center, from the bottom up. The blocks can't be moved underneath existing blocks. Shadizar666 (Ruck Rules) 06:31, February 1, 2017 (UTC)

Another Possible Bug[]

If Shepard goes to the hot labs before facing Benezia, this mission is never renamed Noveria: Death of a Matriarch. It remains Noveria: Matriarch Benezia and though it is marked complete, the mission description suggests more work is still to be done. As a result, the big XP reward for completing the mission (50x multiplier) is never awarded, which for even a low-level Shepard means thousands of denied points. I haven't found any way to avoid this, aside from defering the hot labs until after Benezia. If a couple of folks could confirm this, I'll be happy to add it to the bug list in this article. Gourmetrix (talk) 02:13, April 16, 2017 (UTC)

I have gone to the hot labs first. After completion, my journal entry is not renamed, but the task is named "Mission Complete", and the detail says "You've defeated the matriarch and eliminated the rachni in the hot labs. Depart Rift Station via the passenger tram that you arrived in." I totaled 6,445 XP, measured as the difference between a) before killing any of the final wave of Asari commandos plus Matriarch Benezia herself, and b) back on Normandy (not taking any crate in the process). It would be best if someone can post a normal XP gain as a reference.
Also, I'm not sure if this counts as a bug, because there are various instances in the game that different path or choice results in different XP gain. ZypA13510 (talk) 16:58, September 22, 2018 (UTC)

Geth turrets after 2nd tunnel[]

I'm playing on Xbox and on every playthrough so far I've had 4 Geth Turrets instead of 3 after the 2nd tunnel. There is one immediately after leaving the tunnel (it starts firing at you before you are out of it). Is this just on Xbox or also on other platforms? Lady charna (talk) 15:57, April 18, 2017 (UTC)

Council dialogue tree[]

Is there a dialogue tree or at least a note that can be added to the On board the Normandy section to identify the last chance to disconnect from the conversation with the council? IRMacGuyver (talk) 00:26, March 16, 2018 (UTC)

Black pixels on AMD CPUs[]

On newer AMD CPUs, a bug may cause models in the game, including that of Shepard and your teammates, to be rendered as blocks of black pixel. As can be seen from the history, several people can confirm the bug exists: edit 1, edit 2 and edit 3. I'm adding the info to the bug section. ZypA13510 (talk) 15:54, September 22, 2018 (UTC)

update on AMD black blobs[]

seems a couple of people did an indepth research on the issue. it seems 3Dnow isn't the culprit, but rather some outdated d3d dll plus incompatible PSGPs.

they've also provided a standalone fix.

confirmation required: rachni soldiers failing to bust out of grates in the mira core intersection[]

in normal play the soldiers would appear after fixing either the reactor or the landlines and returning to the intersection. i've experienced it numerous times myself, both in original and legendary, and basic searching of youtube walkthrough vids can attest to the fact. however, i've also experienced several instances where they never appeared after doing either mission. cue debug procedures.

  • loaded a game set prior to the towers of hanoi puzzle. shepard briefly went back to the intersection in that one prior to saving, a grate flew up for no reason. reactivated mira, reconnected landlines first and reactor second. no soldiers appeared.
    • same scenario above, only instead of liberal saveloading after every mission, did everything in one take. still no soldiers.
  • loaded a game set in the administration level, before the elevator to mira core. straight shot reactivated mira, reconnected landlines, fixed reactor, no save/loading in between. soldiers appeared both times.
    • same scenario above, only used the autosave after dying at landlines (dump back at mira core). no soldiers appeared.
  • loaded a game set in the administration level, before the elevator to mira core. straight shot reactivated mira, fixed reactor first then landlines second, no save/loading in between. soldier did not appear after reactor, soldier appeared after landlines.

testing was done in legendary edition and original. however, results in original failed to match legendary (soldiers appeared in all trials). i can **anecdotally** recall several times playing original where the soldiers never appeared, though that was years ago and in characters no longer existing. big fat anecdotal disclaimer again: approaching the intersection with guns out/holstered also appears to be a factor, though this hasn't been rigorously tested.

tl;dr bug about bugs that may or may not appear depending on your saving habits AND/OR weapon stance. need confirmation. All I can say right now is that I don't recall ever NOT encountering the popup soldiers in OT, but I rarely varied my routines here. Neo89515 (talk) 13:07, 25 September 2021 (UTC)

confirmation required: "dead" guard at quarantine lab being counted as alive[]

  1. finish Noveria: Quarantine, return cure to dr. cohen. guard at quarantine lab is dead because allestia's team killed him.
  2. finish Noveria: The Hot Labs. ventralis turns traitor, executes everyone except han olar.
  3. go back to han olar's place. he's being threatened by an asari and some goons. after the fight's over (or even during), you may notice that the "dead" guard from quarantine is still shooting at you. while lying on the floor. and is counted as one of the red enemy dots on the map, with health/shield bars even. since he's already "dead" there's no way to kill the guy scratch that, toss a sabotage or whatever in his direction, he magically gets back up and you can finally kill him. even if han olar isn't there (in the scenario where you cleared out the restricted area before going here), the "dead" guard still appears.

to my knowledge, never experienced this in original ME1. only in legendary.
