Device, or disk?[]

Too lazy to look into this in more detail, but does anyone actually know for sure if the "D" in OSD stands for "disk" or "device"? The ME codex seems to refer to it as "disc", the Andromeda codex refers to it as "disk". Neo89515 (talk) 20:41, 2 May 2024 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure the D is for "Disc" actually. There are several references to it as such in ME1 alone (with that spelling). I searched for "Optical Storage" in ME2 which turned up no results, and the only results in ME3 came from a cut conversation, where it's actually spelled "disk". In this case, I assume the most canonical thing would be to go with "Disc" since that's what ME1 says several times.--Loadingue (talk) 20:57, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
I would agree. Assuming you searched your dialogue dumps as well? Also, we wouldn't really care about disc vs. disk as both have been seen in-game and it's basically a British/American English thing. Neo89515 (talk) 21:21, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
Yes, but dialogues themselves never mention "Optical Storage [anything]". As I found out though, besides the Codex, when you storm Fist's office in ME1, the OSD Emily Wong wants is clearly labelled "Optical Storage Disc" on the HUD. Regarding "Disc/Disk", I think we should go with the trilogy's spelling (barring ME3's cut content, of course). And we really ought to do something about UK/US spelling once and for all at some point. With my data dumps, I have everything needed to see which spelling is more prevalent.--Loadingue (talk) 21:28, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
'In ME1, the OSD Emily Wong wants is clearly labelled "Optical Storage Disc" on the HUD.' -- I knew there was a place during gameplay where you see the term, I was thinking it was a Codex Entry prompt of some kind, but yeah, this was the one. Neo89515 (talk) 21:31, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
I just saw that Galactic Codex: Essentials Edition 2183 is listed in the References section, possibily "device" was sourced from there. You wouldn't happen to be able to check that, would you? It's probably online somewhere... However, for arguments' sake, the Wiki favors whatever the actual games say over any secondary print materials most of the time. I'm not able to verify it; User:Lancer1289 was at some point retranscribing it for the Wiki, but he didn't get to finish it.--Loadingue (talk) 22:12, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
