perhaps it should be noted that close range use of the sniper rifle is made easier by 'pausing' the game with the power selection menu, and angling your reticule onto a target. Useful in sticky situations to get no-scopes. --92.9.55.225 23:17, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

Picture[]

I've taken the time to upload some screencaps (featuring Garrus Vakarian) of each individual sniper rifle. Enjoy ---Phylarion 15:05, September 17, 2009 (UTC)

Missing data[]

I added entries for 3 Sniper Rifles that weren't listed originally, could anyone fill in the missing specs for them? ---Phylarion 15:05, September 17, 2009 (UTC)

Started entering the data, but found some inconsistency with some of the existing data in the article. I'll go through the list at a later date and recheck the entire article. --silverstrike 16:01, September 17, 2009 (UTC)

DPS calc for ME2 weapons[]

I've made a DPS equation based on data made available here:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/file/944906/58941

http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/128/index/1143264

I'd like to post the DPS for each weapon, but I'm sure doing so without explanation would cause much consternation. I think it's very useful information, but I'm not sure how to roll it out. Thoughts? Servius 05:31, February 12, 2010 (UTC)

Pretty difficult to say how this info would fit in, even Dragon Age Wiki didn't bother with DPS values but then again, the design of the DAO wiki is extremely organised and wouldn't have anywhere for DPS information. IMHO though, DPS is interesting for comparing weapons but it's not practically useful because DPS is subjective depending on how often you pop out from cover during combat, what upgrades you've researched, whether you're constantly firing, ammo type etc. On top of that, you don't get to know the enemies' shields, armour or health values. Other than knowing that Sniper Rifle A has higher DPS than Sniper Rifle B, the DPS value is kind of pointless. But anyway post what you have up here in a table (just for sniper rifles) and we'll see if it can fit in anywhere, maybe could just start with stating in the "Player Notes" sections how each sniper rifle ranks in terms of DPS, "E.g. The Widow has the highest DPS of all sniper rifles against armor." - Unregistered
I've already done it. You can see it here Weaponry Comparison. Servius 01:19, February 14, 2010 (UTC)

Close range damage bonus[]

I'm copy-pasting this to the talk page of every weapon for ME2, but using the console command Combat Profile Self on PC I could in real-time see the damage multiplier for all weapon types, and almost all of them increase steadily starting at a distance of 800.00 units from a target up to right next to the target and touching it. I tested this with all weapon types and the multiplier increased at close ranges up to melee range for all basic weapons EXCEPT Sniper Rifles, whose damage modifier remained totally constant regardless of distance (mine at 1.5500, with the Widow). Interestingly, this even applied to heavy weapons (tested with Avalanche, grenade launcher, Cain, Particle Beam, and Missile Launcher). To reiterate, the distance at which the close range damage increase kicked in was 800.00 units for ALL weapons (except Snipers), and the multiplier increased steadily from there up to physically touching the target where the damage modifier appears to reach a maximum of 100%, though that number is speculation on my part based on what I've read on the Shotgun page and elsewhere that the point-blank range modifier is 100%. I think I'll be making a few changes to some of the weapon pages based on this new data. Ale89515 (talk) 07:18, June 6, 2020 (UTC)

amendments to the above based on new data and testing. The distance at which the close range damage modifier starts to kick in and increase the damage multiplier appears to vary depending on the size or type of the target. I discovered the modifier starts to kick in at range 400.00 against krogan for most weapon, while it kicks in at 800.00 against vorcha. This somewhat complicates the variables when trying to figure out how the close range damage modifier works across all weapon types. It also turns out there is a distance beyond which damage starts to fall off, it appears to be 2000.00 for small targets like vorcha, and 1200 for larger targets like krogan.

Here is how I believe it works for the different weapon types based on what I've played around with:

  • All heavy weapons except the Blackstorm and Arc Projector show a damage multiplier affected by range, however the actual DAMAGE they deal is unaffected. I tested damage specifically between close and long ranges with the Grenade Launcher and Avalanche only.
  • All sniper rifles show no modifier change based on range, it is constant, whether scoped or unscoped
  • All non-heavy weapons except sniper rifles do get increased damage at close range however it's possibly slightly higher for shotguns. I did some number collection for different weapons to get a rough idea of damage ratio between point-blank and mid ranges and here's what I got:
    • Claymore: 2.37 ; Geth PS: 1.86; Katana: 1.85; Phalanx: 1.5 Mattock: 1.78; Locust: 1.67
    • I did not use rigorous sample sizes for the above but was careful to avoid headshots, ammo powers, and other critical hits that could skew data
    • targets were krogan/vorcha health bars on Insanity difficulty

I'm going to move this whole section to the Talk page of the Weapons article as that seems more appropriate Ale89515 (talk) 22:30, June 6, 2020 (UTC)

New SR Table Proposed[]

I've made a new Sniper Rifle table (for ME2). It's basically neater (in appearance and code) and fits the new skin better (the original becomes needlessly long). Check it out at my sandbox; any useful suggestions may be made here, and would be appreciated. --AnotherRho 03:42, October 11, 2010 (UTC)

Extended tables[]

Any tables that are too big to fit on a standard screen (remembering that some of us still use 17" 1024*1280 res should be redirected to another page where it can be fitted on with extensions. Nested tables are just another example of the stupidity of both the users and hosts of websites trying to make things look pretty when denying accessibility to those who just want info - which is what wiki is all about).

Numbers for ME3[]

Are those numbers concerning WCFDA reliable? Because it says that Mantis and Black Widow have the same Base-Damage, but if I add the same Mods to both(in my case Barrel and Concentration), the Widow shows a lot less DMG than the Mantis.

That REALLY concerns me right now, as I was hoping to have the Widow as my new superhigh-dmg-baby till the end -.-

The short answer is: the graphical bars are unreliable, and the WCFDA numbers listed here are estimates (and therefore, also unreliable). There are various sources posted around the BSN that calculate the actual damage numbers. Trandra (talk) 18:43, September 19, 2012 (UTC)
Seriously? Damn, how can you know that something does more damage, if the bar is rather significantly lower?(at least, it is distinguishable, if you get my drift- some weapons have such a small difference that you have to take out a magnifier, but between mantis and widow is a easily spotable difference...). and how are those numbers guessed? I play on insanity and every shot depletes one full bar on most enemies and on others, there is no visible difference(I cant spot it, if I deal 3.5 or 3.7 bars of damage to an atlas :D ) --Wotemer (talk) 07:39, September 20, 2012 (UTC)

Intermittent Assassination[]

I am wondering if this is a glitch. I like to snipe from a distance (ME). The first shot I can use Assassination, but when it fully recharges it is still grayed-out and unavailable and I don't know why. I am too far away to be Dampened and it happens too often. It occasionally happens with my assault rifle and Overkill too. Maya Roses (talk) 03:31, February 23, 2013 (UTC)

Place to find better weapons data for ME3?[]

ME3 practically buries us in weapons choices, but the data provided in the game doesn't really provide, for the most part, "actually useful" information on how much damage weapons can do relative to one another. DPS numbers for example would at least be a start. Since official/confirmable information presumably doesn't exist, I wouldn't expect to find it on this wiki, but can anyone point me to somewhere that attempts to provide realistic/practical comparisons between weapons? Thx! Cattlesquat (talk) 17:22, May 1, 2013 (UTC)

Google Docs Spreadsheet updated by BSN user Cyonan. Shows both SP and MP stats in the different tabs. Trandra (talk) 19:55, May 1, 2013 (UTC)
Holy wow! Thanks Trandra! Cattlesquat (talk) 20:39, May 1, 2013 (UTC)

Listing of models as sections[]

Is it really necessary to make each model a subsection? Could they simply be bolded? At the moment they seem to be cluttering the TOC. I will consult MOS and edit appropriately if there are no responses, a bit later on today... Techhead7890Talk

"edit appropriately" you will not. this is an intro page for sniper rifles and having the models TOC-visible is actually one of the points of this page. same goes for all other weapons pages so don't get any bright ideas. That saves me from consulting the MOS, then. Thanks anyway. Techhead7890Talk 05:34, November 6, 2013 (UTC) - (and I'm also an idiot for not simply closing the TOC in the first place.
