C-SecEdit

Well if you deleted the cattegory i cannot add a link to it :-) I only put the cattegory to have a link i wanted to remove it after i had the link. I was already discussing about adding "user" cattegory on the pages for vehicles and weapons?Masterus1 (talk) 23:38, January 1, 2014 (UTC)

Please don't re-add it. Categories aren't usually added unless they can have a good number of articles within them. Lksdjf (talk) 23:39, January 1, 2014 (UTC)

Why don't you want to add the equipment? There are many way we can do it

  • a link to a page as on wikipedia

http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Equipment_of_the_Citadel_Security_Services

  • putting "C-sec equipment" cattegory (with skycar,m8 avenger,kodiak shuttle,shotguns,...) instead of "C-sec" which is vague and regroup too many article.
  • adding "users" paragraph on the vehicle/weapon pages as on wikipedia Masterus1 (talk) 23:46, January 1, 2014 (UTC)
I'm asking you not to do it because there aren't enough articles to add to it that could justify its existence. Everything that could be added to C-Sec equipment could be added to C-Sec with no major disruptions. Additionally, categorizing tends to be very broad.
The Avenger, while used by Alliance soldiers and C-Sec officers, isn't classified as either C-Sec or Alliance. I can name a few reasons why this isn't so:
  • It is a very popular model of assault rifle that is used by multiple species
  • It is produced by a volus company
  • It is not exclusive to either C-Sec or the Alliance
Note how the N7 weapons ARE classified as belonging to the Systems Alliance. This is because N7 is a uniquely human concept that aliens are excluded from. Lksdjf (talk) 23:54, January 1, 2014 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) There are only 11 pages even in the main C-Sec category, so having a separate branch for a handful of "C-Sec equipment" articles is not really justified. And Wikipedia's way to present and organise content still doesn't automatically have any bearing on how this wiki does it.
Also, please note that category pages are linked to like this: [[:Category:C-Sec]]. Leaving out the initial colon places the page itself in the category, and leaving out Category simply creates a link to a page with that name. Elseweyr (talk | stalk) 23:59, January 1, 2014 (UTC)

Miranda Lawson pageEdit

I noticed that on the Miranda Lawson page you reverted a change. The change was making the word "meet" to "meeting". You reverted it back to meet. This is incorrect.

Meet

noun an assembly, as of persons and hounds for a hunt or swimmers or runners for a race or series of races: a track meet. 24. those assembled. 25. the place of such an assembling.

assemblynoun 1. an assembling or coming together of a number of persons, usually for a particular purpose: The principal will speak to all the students at Friday's assembly. 2. a group of persons gathered together, usually for a particular purpose, whether religious, political, educational, or social.

Shepard is meeting a single person. This makes your change inappropriate since this is not an assembly. Meeting is the correct word to use here, not meet. Just thought I would point that out. GrandMoffVixen (talk) 22:53, January 2, 2014 (UTC)

That's quite the extrapolation. So am I to assume that for events in which only two people show up (assuming that attendance is anticipated to be much higher), that the event can no longer be considered a meet? The crux of the definition implies any sort of gathering, and is not intended to specify the number of participants.

I am not going to change the word because I prefer "meeting" to "meet", although that does not imply any sort of agreement with your reasoning.

Your change is not any more inappropriate than the original version, but to claim that it is wrong would be incorrect. Lksdjf (talk) 00:05, January 3, 2014 (UTC)

Using multiple dictionaries is always a good idea when trying to prove some point as to whether the use of a word is correct or incorrect in a particular context. It takes very little searching to find suitable definitions, for example:
  • informal a meeting, typically one with an illicit purpose [1]
  • a meeting, esp a sports meeting [2]
I simply undid your change on principal. Since meet is not incorrect, changing it isn't legit unless someone else agrees with your edit. Which is what happened. Elseweyr (talk | stalk) 00:58, January 3, 2014 (UTC)
Not sure if we're still discussing or now-all-agreed, but I'll mention my preference for "meeting" in the situation mentioned. Cattlesquat (talk) 02:41, January 3, 2014 (UTC)
Note that I never said that anyone was wrong. Do not put words in my mouth. I was polite and there is no reason to use an Ad Hominem attack against me merely because I am disagreed with. Next, I am not required to use multiple dictionaries. Also, I am not required to, nor am I inclined to have "someone else agrees with your edit" just to change something. I pointed out why the change was incorrect. Well, the word I used before was "inappropriate". Unless I am in an informal situation I will not use words informally. There are standards of language and just because a word can be used in such a manner does not mean it is acceptable.

This type of conduct remains why I left the wiki in the first place. Draconian attitudes with the "my turf" attitude regardless of this not belonging to any said person. Now I know why I shouldn't have come back. I won't be seeing you again, as I won't put up with this from the likes of misanthropes such as you. GrandMoffVixen (talk) 08:31, January 3, 2014 (UTC)

LOL K BYE Lksdjf (talk) 09:54, January 3, 2014 (UTC)
Note that (1) this trivial matter was settled article-wise long ago, with your edit as the last one; (2) no-one has accused you of saying that anyone is wrong, nor attacked you personally; and (3) since this wiki doesn't acknowledge any particular dictionary as the only valid source, I merely recommended that you make use of multiple ones if you're going to engage in arguments about the meanings of words.
Your decision to depart is most lamentable, but if minor disagreements lead you to stir up this kind of drama and call other users "misanthropes," you may need to mature a bit before returning to editing again. Elseweyr (talk | stalk) 11:08, January 3, 2014 (UTC)

Just because we have the rights doesn't mean there aren't restrictions and guidelines as to how we're supposed to use them. Their primary purpose is to facilitate helping out communities which are actually in need of help -- we don't meddle in local administration unless asked for or necessary, especially not on wikis where we have no local rights.
Since I still edit here actively and plan to keep doing so, I'd initially planned not to touch any additional buttons until as a regular user I reckoned I'd have to call for outside help. Four reverts in quick succession (which I knew to be non-permitted mainly because I know Mass Effect and this wiki) wasn't a situation in which I'd have felt comfortable blocking someone in my capacity as Helper. If in similar cases you'd prefer I take action instead of bother you with it, that's up to you, really. Elseweyr (talk | stalk) January 24, 2014, 16:12:05 (UTC)

Purely for entertainment value Edit

Oh, right, we have "in universe" articles too. I always forget about those since I seldom end up in them. Too bad wiki doesn't offer a "oh yeah, you're right" box to check to acknowledge well-reverted edits!

Meanwhile purely for your interest check out the three (not-in-agreement-with-each-other) usage notes here for whence. I can tell you that in "native speak" it's almost always from whence, and especially and specifically in the most common phrase you encounter it in, "go back to from whence you came". I agreed the most with the usage note that mentioned that a certain amount of archaicness-of-speech is implied and intended in the very using of the word at all. In any event, I just shared that since it was all news to me that there was any other usage. As you say the other usage is apparently legitimate even if I wouldn't use it myself. Learn something new every day... Cattlesquat (talk) 22:29, January 31, 2014 (UTC)

MP Characters Edit

Hi Else, I do like the current template you have done, we are quite close to a final proposal ;). Still, I prefer darkgrey color for the ultra-rare stuff and I would put the race and the class between [[ ]] for a wiki link which could be useful. Last but not least, are volus no gendered? seems odd!--DeldiRe (talk) 09:21, February 13, 2014 (UTC)

I think the whole gender parameter is redundant, since the name itself reveals the character's gender where it has any significance. Same goes for class and even race, really, so maybe we should try to think of other characteristics to add instead?
Regarding the colours, in my weapon inventory the ultra-rares look rather black to me (http://puu.sh/6Um25.jpg), but the gold colour could be adjusted to resemble the in-game one more, I suppose (http://puu.sh/6Um4t.jpg). Also, I could make a template draft without the custom CSS classes so there's a version that renders properly to anyone who may wish to view or edit it.
On a side note: since you copied all of my CSS, you may have noticed that the wiki's background disappeared in the process. I do this because page loading times; if it was a deliberate move, never mind. Elseweyr [ talk | stalk ] February 13, 2014, 11:05:46 (UTC)
Agree with all your points -> discussions on the talk page of your template. The point to discuss is, as you said, the point over race/gender/class which can be redundant. In fact they are in some cases but are also relevant in other (ea. Phoenix project adept, it's not stated that he is human or a male, cabal vanguard doesn't say that it is a female). However, the class line is always redundant as I said to you ;). Which could find an alternative. I proposed one but you didn't liked it at the time (it was terrible yes I know, but it was a start :D )--DeldiRe (talk) 11:16, February 13, 2014 (UTC)

As I can see that you are busy, I started the discussion about our MP project. Please have a look to my statement and feel free to update/correct/change what I said if you feel that it doesn't reflect your opinion. I tried to be as neutral as possible (I presented the facts and not the minor points where we do not agree at 100%). See you buddy. --DeldiRe (talk) 17:21, February 25, 2014 (UTC)

My apologies, monsieur jellyfish; I've had to forcibly abstain from this wiki because MASS EFFECT WIKI + PREPPING FOR EXAMS = MASS EFFECT WIKI. Citadel Characters Edit

I made screenshots from my friends computer and I have all initial health points of all DLC charatcers. However the "initial" points are influenced by passive powers automatically used already, when I met them. How can I explain it to Tempo, so he could accept it? File:DLCME3health.png
FirstDrellSpectre (talk) 19:40, February 18, 2014 (UTC)

Thank you, Drell -- for convenience, I took the freedom to make your file reference a link instead. Although "initial" presumably means the health and shield/barrier values without any boosts gained from power evolutions, for these guys I think the only viable solution is to treat them as the exceptions they are and go with the "Rank 3 values" instead. If you calculate the theoretical initial values for Wrex, for instance, they're not even integers. Coupled with the fact that those values aren't used, it makes little sense to treat any other values than the Rank 3 ones as "initial."
I personally think the values seen in your screenshot could be added as such, with a note that these values apply with three points in the respective character's Class Power. I'd suggest you go ahead and create a post about this in the Projects Forum, as it's the easiest way to show what you're trying to achieve, get input and assistance from other users, and adjust your project accordingly. As Temp said, once everything seems to be in order, it can be voted on. Just follow the example of previous and other ongoing projects; if you need help with anything, let me know. Great! Just one thing: you already opened voting, but it might be better to wait for a few comments before you do. Since the voting period lasts for seven days, the {{vote}} template needs to be added to the project page so it's clear when voting ends. Yes, this is the information we want to include, though I was more interested in formatting ideas. Since we likely want to keep the icons, a mere bullet list wouldn't look good; they'd need to be in their own cell in a table.

Sorry, meant to leave an edit summary but hit the wrong button. That a rifle "is considered the best overall sniper rifle" is too subjective to put into an article, I think, and that it "gives quite decent long-range capability against enemies" could arguably be said about any sniper rifle. Hi DragonInquisitor! I played Skyrim before I discovered Mass Effect, and the Khajiit province is actually Elsweyr (without the middle e) while my username is only half-punning on 'elsewhere' (which has led many to think I misspelled it). I didn't think I'd use my account to edit much, so I kinda just pulled it out of my.. hat, haha.
As for an article on the next Mass Effect game, there is none in the main space because there is practically no information available about it yet, including a title. Hi! Udina actually belongs here: Codex/Humanity and the Systems Alliance, so I removed the section from the Known Associates subpage. I also restored the entry you get when Anderson was chosen Councilor in ME2 since the two scenarios are equally valid.
As for how to deal with the two pairs of possible entries, I'd suggest you post a topic about it on some of the relevant talk pages (eg. Talk:Codex) to get some input from our admins and other users. If they are to be added, I think we need the entries from both scenarios. Elseweyr talkstalk April 23, 2014, 21:24:26 (UTC)
Ok I see it I'll add the audio for Udina there, and I started a topic on the talk page. CodeMyster003 (talk) 21:35, April 23, 2014 (UTC)

Yeah regardless of what they do in it's current state it's quite confusing. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by CodeMyster003 (talk · contr).

That Udina and Anderson are in different segments can't really be helped. I'm sure the boxes can just go in next to their related subsections; I just think for now we shouldn't add one scenario and not the other. Elseweyr talkstalk April 23, 2014, 23:31:02 (UTC)

Constructive criticism. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Niniendowarrior (talk · contr).

It's just the opinion of a fellow editor but I think these maps would be a nice addition to their respective N7 mission articles. Elseweyr talkstalk May 31, 2014, 20:31:24 (UTC)
It's ok, I guess. Niniendowarrior (talk) 21:03, May 31, 2014 (UTC)

Lost my chat connection Edit

Lost my chat connection "at the moment of truth" and couldn't get back in. You'll have to let me know the answer to YamiXO's trivia question after it gets figured out. See you later on. PlasmaVentingInProgress (talk) 23:06, June 2, 2014 (UTC)

Yes, happened to the rest of us too; wikia tends to glitch like that every now and then. The answer to the first question is here. See you around! Elseweyr talkstalk June 3, 2014, 10:58:20 (UTC)

I have problem with... Edit

I have problem with joining the chat, that's why we didn't chat for few days recently. Perhaps I need to udpate firefox or download some drivers. I'd like to inform you that due to my great involvement in editing Polish Wikia I became an administrator. However I feel like a cop in a city with no criminals.FirstDrellSpectre (talk) 07:32, July 9, 2014 (UTC)

Congratulations! If you're not sure what to do, the admin dashboard and especially Specjalna:Strony specjalne should give you an idea of how the wiki could be improved. Good luck administrating and sorting out your chat problem. Elseweyr talkstalk 08:48:05, 2014-07-09 (UTC)

Mass Effect 3: Alliance Edition Edit

Greetings. I see you a great deal on the wiki and know that you're high up in the ranks. But I figure to be safe, I'll formally request approval first. In Italy, an exclusive edition of Mass Effect 3, known as the Alliance Edition, was released. Only 1,100 copies were made. It features the N7 Collector's Edition, a Normandy Sr-2 replica, a codex book, and a Normandy lithograph. Just wondering if we can add a page for that. Thanks. --108.6.255.47 17:06, July 20, 2014 (UTC)

Hi (: First off, I'm no higher up in the ranks than you, so you can submit formal approval requests to an active admin instead. As for the Mass Effect 3 Alliance Edition, this wiki doesn't seem to note information about regional releases, which are generally more of a retailer thing (in the Alliance Edition's case, GameStop Italy) than "official editions" of the game. After years Edit

Biotic Dash Edit

Hi Elsie, please note that the multiplayer biotic dash (for Asari) cost some barrier but will also stop your barrier from regenerating. I think it's worth mention it in the ME3MP table. Or in player note but it will be easier to put it in the template with 3 words. --DeldiRe (talk) 23:31, July 28, 2014 (UTC)

Is that really some unique mechanic? When shields or barriers are reduced for some reason, there's always a recharge delay. Am I missing something? Elseweyr talkstalk 09:55:40, 2014-07-29 (UTC)
You are right but as it's not a "damage" as the standard procedure, I think it could be quickly mentioned there: "Dodge (Biotic Dash) – The Asari Valkyrie Sentinel quickly slides using biotic energy at the expense of barrier strength." I'm not sure how to include it in a proper sentence. I leave that to you ;)--DeldiRe (talk) 10:02, July 29, 2014 (UTC)
If the barriers started recharging instantly, that would be exceptional. Since that isn't the case, I don't agree it's worth noting. Sorry :p Elseweyr talkstalk 10:14:54, 2014-07-29 (UTC)

Mass Effect Wiki Twitter AccountEdit

Hey there, Elseweyr. My name is Doug from Wikia's Community Development Team! I was forwarded your Special:Contact message about the Mass Effect Wiki Twitter account. I appreciate your constructive feedback! I update that account along with a handful of other wiki twitter accounts. I was wondering if you could help me implement some of the changes you've requested!

I would love to be able to pass off log-in credentials to interested, trusted staff members here on the Mass Effect wiki to better curate information that the wiki wants to promote. I've found over the last year that the most successful wiki twitter accounts are those that are updated by a blend of the wikis admins and Wikia staff. Would you be interested in helping update the Twitter?

I was also thinking of drafting up a blog post here on the wiki to open a discussion on possible 'programming' suggestions and ideas for the account. How does that sound?

Thanks again and let me know if anything else is coming to your mind : > TheBlueRogue @fandom •(profile)•(talk)•(doug@wikia-inc.com) 17:23, August 14, 2014 (UTC)

Hello,
most of this sounds good enough to me, but like I mentioned in the feedback, I'm just a regular editor here and only spoke for myself and not on behalf of the wiki or its administrative team. These and further suggestions should be passed by the admins first, as some of them may be willing to help update the Twitter themselves. If not, appointing the task to some other user should be up to their discretion.
Thanks! Elseweyr talkstalk 18:20:45, 2014-08-14 (UTC)

Ambiant Edit

Once more, you are doing a great job even if you like to dance on ice :) --DeldiRe (talk) 22:32, August 25, 2014 (UTC)

Hah! I can crush you in hockey, too. Or, you know, Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer.

Thank you Edit

Thank you for removing the duplicated categories from the Priority: Geth Dreadnought article. I noticed them when I looked at the edit under Recent Changes -- I didn't add them myself, so I'm not sure how they got there! -Sophia (talk) 01:01, November 26, 2014 (UTC)

No problem. Unless you have it disabled, the issue is likely due to a bug related to the category module: if while editing a section the session for some reason expires and the editing page is reloaded, categories the article is already in are added to the section as well. (It's possible that all the categories can simply be duplicated if the page is reloaded while editing the whole article; I can't recall since I've personally had the module disabled for a long time :P).
If you wish to prevent this, "Show changes" in the dropdown under the Preview button also displays added (or removed) categories, and they would appear in the category module as well. (The module should be empty for any section that is not the last one, as categories are appended to the end of articles by convention.) You can then delete any unwanted categories before publishing. private message Edit

Hello and sorry.

I installed adblock, but it doesn't work. Because of annoying ads, I can chat with you nor Zarge. Until I fix it, you can't expect me on the chat.

In my homeland is getting colder and colder, every day temperature is below zeo since last sunday. I wear already 4 layers of clothes to keep my body heat stable. Little snow already appears. After I went to high school I ceased to like snow, because snow leads to traffics.

And what's up to you? FirstDrellSpectre (talk) 18:53, December 1, 2014 (UTC)

Sorry to hear you're having issues with the chat feature. There are some very competent Polish Helpers who could possibly help you with your problem; the Polish Community Wikia is the place where you can get support for anything Wikia-related.
I'm pretty good, thanks; just very busy with studies at the moment as I'm trying to finish a 5-year degree in 4. It's also rather cold here, though what snow we had melted away in a recent warmer period. I'd prefer ice and snow to darkness and humidity, though! Elseweyr talkstalk 20:05:25, 2014-12-02 (UTC)

wikia.css Drop-down List? Edit

Hey, so I'm using your wikia.css, must say it's pretty awesome. There's just one problem though, when you type in something in the search bar and it gives a drop-down list, that list is entirely in blinding white. I was wondering how you would modify the .css so that the list is in another color? -- @ResistanZ 18:36, December 4, 2014 (UTC)

I took the time to overwrite some more rules. Find them in the tab on the right.

.autocomplete div {
    font-size: 13px;
}

.search-form-wrapper .autocomplete strong {
    color: #4a73a8;
}

.search-form-wrapper .autocomplete div.selected {
    background-color: #1f314f;
}

.search-form-wrapper .autocomplete {
    background-color: #0e192d;
    border: 1px solid #24364f;
    border-radius: 2px;
}

.search-form-wrapper .autocomplete div {
    height: 35px;
    line-height: 15px;
    padding: 8px 10px;
    border-bottom: 1px solid #24364f;
}

Elseweyr talkstalk 23:12:15, 2014-12-04 (UTC)

Awesome. Thanks for the info. The .css you have setup works perfectly for this wiki, but there's some things left over on other wikis that don't work as well. I've included a screenshot of the bar I'm using on another wiki along with the things that are mismatched: http://oi60.tinypic.com/11vof3m.jpg.
1: "this wikia" part of "Search this wikia" is still in a different font color. 2: When you start typing in the search bar or even just click in it there's a bright blue outline that shows up. That works fine for this wiki, but my other wiki is brownish, and doesn't really fit. 3: The magnifying glass color doesn't match, but I'm sure Wikia used an image so I don't see that being changeable... And lastly 4: when you hover over your user picture, that dropdown shows up still as white.
If you could help me resolve these issues I would eternally grateful. Even if you don't have the time to help me, I thank you anyway and appreciate you giving us a way to hide that ridiculously ugly bar that they forced on us. -- @ResistanZ 00:15, December 5, 2014 (UTC)
There are several elements to consider when making the navbar as a whole fit a certain colorscheme, and locating all the classes and attributes to tweak can be a bit time-consuming. Since customizing the navbar is only permitted for personal use for now, I only made some changes to the elements I view the most and indeed for this wiki specifically. I typically just use my keyboard when entering a search phrase so the "submit" button isn't that relevant for me, but if you want it to show more clearly, you could always make its background contrast with the image more.
If you want to keep tweaking I'd suggest you familiarise yourself with inspecting elements -- you can start by right-clicking any element on a page and hitting "Inspect Element". Chrome's console is rather easy to use and changes are shown live. There's also a handy little tool called PortableCSSPad available which is useful when playing around with CSS. Elseweyr talkstalk 11:56:53, 2014-12-05 (UTC)
Teach a man to fish, right? Haha, anyway I fixed 3 out of the 4 problems I had so far, I ended up just using a different image for the magnifying glass. I gotta say since I've been looking into CSS I've learned a bit. And my bar on the other wiki looks awesome. Anyway, you have my unending thanks for bestowing knowledge where there once was only ignorance. :D -- @ResistanZ 15:47, December 5, 2014 (UTC)
Glad to hear it's going forward. I'm little more than a CSS scrub myself, but if you have any questions I'll do my best to help you out. Good luck! Elseweyr talkstalk 15:51:03, 2014-12-05 (UTC)
Also, my Wikia.css is at http://deusex.wikia.com/wiki/User:ResistanZ/wikia.css if you're ever interested in looking at it. I found out about gradients now I'm experimenting on making not just a single flat color. -- @ResistanZ 15:58, December 5, 2014 (UTC)

account navigation dropdown Edit

So... I tried using Chrome's element inspection and the problem I encountered before with the account dropdown menu seems to be listed under .AccountNavigation.active .user-menu{

When I try to edit it to

AccountNavigation.active .user-menu{

   background-color: #000000;

}

it doesn't seem to work. Am I using the wrong variable? If I add opacity: .9 in there it makes the menu more transparent, so I'm pretty sure I'm tinkering with the right section, just the wrong parameter. Any input? -- @ResistanZ 19:46, December 5, 2014 (UTC)

An element's opacity pertains to the whole element's opacity, not just its background, so if you want to add a (semi-)transparent background color it can be done like this:

background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, .7);

(red, green, blue, alpha). You appear to be missing some selectors, so check carefully that you've selected the element correctly. I'm posting another few pointers to highlight some elements you might wish to restyle.

.AccountNavigation.active > li {
    background-color: #ff0000;
}

.AccountNavigation .user-menu > li > a {
    background-color: #00ff00;
}

.AccountNavigation .user-menu > li > a:hover {
    background-color: #ffff00;
}

#GlobalNavigationWallNotifications {
    background-color: #ff00ff;
}
