2014 Q1

2014-jan

Hi Temp, As we spoke lately, I'd like to apply as a chat mod for two main reasons:

  • The chat is used more and more often;
  • The current chat mods are inactive.
Therefore, it seems to be important to have a "watch" in order to remind that our chat has rules. As an "old" active user, I think that I'm up to this easy task. Moreover, as I live in Europe, I would also recommend to appoint another american (not especially USA) mod to ensure a daily presence on the chat during every moment of the day. --DeldiRe (talk) 13:04, January 2, 2014 (UTC)
alright, the requisite notice has been passed to the other admins. as a matter of form, one week wait for an answer. 13:23, January 2, 2014 (UTC)
Chat Moderator application
I'd also like to apply for Chat Mod, for largely the same reasons as above. This chat is not dead, yet it currently has no active moderators. I'm usually available at any hour except 2:00-8:00 (UTC), and I think I'd make a nice and decent moderator. Elseweyr (talk | stalk) 13:25, January 2, 2014 (UTC)
well that was fast. or slow. depending on perspective. :p
i've shot a followup PS. 13:32, January 2, 2014 (UTC)
You were faster. (I meant to group it together with DeldiRe's reqest.) Elseweyr (talk | stalk) 13:38, January 2, 2014 (UTC)
Dunno if it matters any, but in my own opinion DeldiRe and Elseweyr are excellent choices for chat mods as during my more active state they always seemed present on the chat, and they both seem very aware of the rules of the wiki. Garhdo (talk) 14:14, January 2, 2014 (UTC)
Chat Mod Application
I would not like to apply for chat mod status. ktnxbai Lksdjf (talk) 00:15, January 3, 2014 (UTC)
Your non-application has not been passed to the other admins. Trandra (talk) 15:37, January 3, 2014 (UTC)

Hi Temp, As you will see, I started the implementation of the project for external content. I already started not because I was too eager but because I had times today to do it which will not be the case in the next few days (at least I think so). I started with a small (and not complex) article in order to not disturb the mainspace. Stop me if I'm wrong... In a gentle way please! Thanks. See you ;). --DeldiRe (talk) 16:26, January 9, 2014 (UTC)

  1. In addtition to adding us two new ones, may I separate the active mods from the inactive ones on MEW:Chat Policies? It doesn't seem useful to make it appear as though most of them are available when in fact they barely even edit anymore – with the exception of Garhdo and the two of you active admins – let alone show up in Chat.
  2. There's a rule that says a user may not use Chat within 30 days of being banned. Isn't this dependent only on the length of time specified for the ban?
  3. Will we get fancy new RC colours? :3
  4. Can we please change the kick message to "$2 has thrown $1 out the airlock"? ( ...that was a joke.) Elseweyr (talk | stalk) January 10, 2014, 10:27:31 (UTC)
right, nearly forgot to respond to this. sorry about that :p
  1. probably not. we can't really speak for the others and there's always the odd chance they may feel like loitering by the chat one of these days.
  2. i think lancer was just making an example of that 30-day clause.
3-4. :3 17:35, January 11, 2014 (UTC)
No prob, I'd have just dropped a gentle reminder tomorrow or something.
1. I thought it'd be easy enough to ask each seemingly inactive mod whether they'd like to be considered active, and if they don't respond in a week or so move them to the inactive ones until further notice. But I'll defer to your wisdom.
2. Oh alright, guess I'll just leave it then. Although it did confuse me.
4. To kiked user: "Elseweyr has thrown you out the airlock!!!" ° ヮ°
On a sidenote, this should say "Volunteer Spam Task Force", not Vandalism Spam etc. Elseweyr (talk | stalk) January 11, 2014, 18:13:32 (UTC) 18:13, January 11, 2014 (UTC)

Some day, I intend to propose the creation of dialogue pages and sections. I was wondering whether this should be done as a policy proposal or a project proposal. It would involve changes to existing pages and the Manual of Style but would be an expansive endeavor (that I would probably not be able to do on my own). Thanks. TheUnknown285 (talk) 16:19, January 14, 2014 (UTC)

we already have unique dialogue sections. what else is there to consider. everything else?
extending the concept to everything would be folly. this could work if mass effect had straightforward lines like most other story-driven games, but tracing everything is something you, me, or anyone else for that matter will never have the patience to complete.
not to mention most of it would be extremely redundant to article content. 02:53, January 15, 2014 (UTC)
That doesn't answer my question as to whether it would be a project proposal or a policy proposal. TheUnknown285 (talk) 05:26, January 16, 2014 (UTC)
To answer your question: since a policy proposal is voted on immediately, you might want to present your work in the projects forum first. Some sample of what you wish to accomplish is needed so we know what we'd be voting on; keeping it in the projects forum first allows you to get feedback and, if necessary, adjust your proposal accordingly. Elseweyr (talk | stalk) January 16, 2014, 08:06:41 (UTC)

I have another suggestion. I suggest to add to all squadmates informations about their initial protection level, which means their initial numbers of points of shields, barriers, armor and health. I think it should be noted how durable the squadmates are, if players plan building their squads for missions just like they plan, when they are going to play on Multiplayer. Not just powers, but also health points matter in gameplay. I know there are advices on class guides about taking squadmates for certain classes, but I think health numbers make decisions more specific and easier to make.FirstDrellSpectre (talk) 20:51, January 20, 2014 (UTC)

get all initial data on all squadmates on ME2 and ME3 and then we can talk. this idea isn't applicable for ME1 as the base values there scale with level. 16:16, January 22, 2014 (UTC)

And in ME3, everyone starts with 500 health, 500 shield, except Liara, Javik, Wrex, Grunt and Aria (Anderson, too, but surely he's not important). Having said that, I feel it would be more useful to note the maximum health and shields obtainable for squadmates, taking account of extra bonuses besides powers, like armour in ME3 and shield upgrades in ME2. for fuck's sake you don't understand. thought as much.

so you took it upon faith not to verify the armax arsenal arena squadmates' stats yourself just because someone said "everyone has 500/500"? sloppy and unacceptable. VERIFY THE DATA YOURSELF. only then will i step in to verify things myself before allowing the project to enter community discussion and approval.
i could've done this ridiculously easy task weeks ago myself. correctly and accurately. but i'm a busy man. and this isn't MY project proposal, it's YOURS. the least you can do is at least be competent and responsible enough in providing easily-retrievable numbers for YOUR own damn project, not making others do everything for you.
this is a lesson in responsibility, not just a piss-poor venting excuse. 08:59, February 7, 2014 (UTC)
Please try to be less rude. It's understandably frustrating when others make mistakes and waste your time, but FirstDrellSpectre is clearly trying to be helpful and do it right. It is possible to just say "no, try again" as opposed to being downright insulting, unless the intention is to humiliate and scare a good faith editor off for good. Elseweyr [ talk | stalk ] February 7, 2014, 12:13:47 (UTC)
i could care less with hurt egos over the internet. overfixation over such trifles never resolves the more pressing problems. ever. my message is clear: get and verify the requisite data. it's so simple and people still manage to fuck that up. if you want to hold his hand, fine be my guest. might be we resolve this matter faster with more people, preferably not incompetents, actually involved. now if you'll excuse me, i have eyes on more important matters. 14:51, February 7, 2014 (UTC)
In the long run that's a self-defeating approach, as it costs nothing extra effort-wise to be nice or at least civil, and will gain you a lot more help, cooperation, and interest from the community down the road. It would have taken a lot less typing than you did to just clarify you meant the squaddies like Jack and Zaeed that you can hit the ME3 Citadel "simulator" with, that Jack is missing from the ME2 list as well, and that he should please verify all the numbers himself first before proceeding not take anyone's word. Or to just send him to the Projects forum in the first place and crowdsource the effort to the community. Just saying. Cattlesquat (talk) 16:27, February 9, 2014 (UTC)
As an admin, I would expect a far more civil tone than this. You are acting like the new Lancer. I am sorry if my intervention earlier has caused issues, but there is no need to resort to such cruel language over what is, as you said, trifles. Tali's no.1 fan (talk) 10:16, February 8, 2014 (UTC)

Fixed the thing. You're welcome (: YATTA ヽ( ° ヮ° )ノ ☆ | 2014年01月22日、01:19:02

ah, so that way works. the editor's syntax highlighting (and the long refresh times) kinda put me off from trying that. thank you, and welcome to the wiki. 13:27, January 22, 2014 (UTC)
You're welcome, and thanks to you as well for the nice welcome, but as for editing on this wiki, I'm afraid I have to disappoint you – I don't play any of the games, and have my own wikis and Dutch community to take care of (:
On another note, Elseweyr suggested that you could archive your talk page (aka. copy paste all messages from before 2013 into Special:MyTalk/Archive01). Using tabber is very much helping against the amount of scrolling, but the page is heavy and therefore takes a while to load.
YATTA ヽ( ° ヮ° )ノ ☆ | 2014年01月22日、02:21:12
it's part personal preference, part laziness, and part curiosity, really, why i keep my talkpage the way it is. i'm not really fussed with loading over 300kb of data every time, though i -will- have to do some housekeeping down the road if the motivation ever hits. 15:23, January 22, 2014 (UTC)
Hey!
Have you ever considered that the huge loading times may render others unable to even open this page? Plus, putting the content in an Archive would assure that previous messages will remain untouched by careless newbie editors. Of course, an accidental edit is easily reverted, but if it ever happens it does save you that minute.
YATTA ヽ( ° ヮ° )ノ ☆ | 2014年02月07日、12:35:07
yeah, of course i'm aware of how this may look like to others.
others are likely viewing this on devices and bandwidth standards post-dialup era. and of those others just lurking elsewhere on the wiki the number of people who want to contact me for some reason can be generously guesstimated with the fingers of at most both hands.
as i said, i'm a naturally lazy person, and since anything in userspace is its owner's property according to established rules it's entirely up to me if and when i initiate changes. 14:43, February 7, 2014 (UTC)

Oh, a couple of rules I see that you, yourself have broken in the past (Developers by no means confirmed a direct link between Cerberus and Chasca; that's called speculation. Speculation on part of the characters is still nothing better than speculation. On a wiki, it's Word of God or as good as silent). It's become apparent to me that you're a very... unprofessional admin. And while I don't doubt your positive effect on this community and am by no means calling you an inherently negative influence (With 6000 edits under your belt, you must have done some good) you have a notable attitude and a tendency to alter edits based upon personal opinion. Often shakily founded personal opinion. So I'm done. The edit means nothing to me, and neither does this... situation. You are what you are, and I assume that you know that. I hope your e-peen gets you somewhere respectable in life, really I do. It is, as you say on your page, automatically bigger than mine. How many bits is that in diameter? Thunderdude, signing out. CaptainThunderdude (talk) 07:40, January 23, 2014 (UTC) Hey there. I'm trying to contribute to an addition to Oleg Petrovsky, trying to inform players what happens if he is killed. I saw you keep deleting my posts because you think it is "irrelevant." If it is irrelevant, then you should delete the section about what happens if he lives. All I was trying to do was inform people about what happens if a player chooses to let him die, because I think it is important, and players would want to know what happens when either option is choosen. You can mod my post if you want, but to delete it out-right, I felt, was a little much. Just consider it is all. I'll give ya a day to think it over, I'll post it one more time, then if you still don't want it up, you can delete it, and I'll lay off. Promise. Thanks! =)
how about no. you are adding invalid information, and you are requesting to remove valid information. 07:25, January 23, 2014 (UTC)

Hi. I noticed the wiki has many, many pictures with the most appalling names; I think they're the worst pictures of this website. Then I wondered, as they were so similar in treatment, if maybe they all were from the same user. And then I knew I was right, and that user was you. So what happened? How come they're so terribly named?... The names aren't descriptive enough. The image names don't follow even the most basic of English grammar. Was it the way you were taught?... What happened? (of course, it's not your fault if you didn't understand what your English teacher was saying) Then I noticed that most of the pictures you upload are always terribly named. Do you realize that most of the images you upload have awful names? Don't you see that the names aren't even grammatically correct? Maybe you aren't a native speaker of English?... Do you save them with Paint, and then just type whatever comes to your mind? Bad idea! Most of the image names don't even follow basic capitalization. You should fix that or stop uploading pics, because it spoils the wiki a lot. It's quite evident that you don't have even the slightest understanding of how images should be named on a wiki, so I'd advice you to not resume this unless you're prepared to improve it. And don't worry, it's nothing personal, I just try to understand and make you understand. Overall it's sad because I know the time and commitment that is put into uploading these images. ;-) An anonymous friend 03:44, January 26, 2014 (UTC) Now that is really the most strange badmouth disguised as complaint I saw around this wiki...By the way, I see no problem with his uploads. Hi Temporaryeditor78, The Featured Article section on the main page seems to be pouring over to the side rail on smaller screens and distorting the view. This is because of the 700px static width placed on the div and the border. Is it possible to set the width to 100%, or max-width:700px;? Kind regards, T3CHNOCIDE (talk) (contribs) 19:23, January 29, 2014 (UTC)

thank you for spotting the oversight, it seemed well enough when looking at it from my tablet vertically. totally overlooked to see how it appears horizontally. :p
i'm opting for the max-width cap since the box stretches too much at higher screen resolutions. seems i've misread earlier fluid layout reports as all i gleaned from them is a minimum content layout of 700px. 23:19, January 30, 2014 (UTC)

as i said quite plainly on your talkpage, sandbox an article first. http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/User:N7_Slayer/Hazard_Maps. making one on http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Hazard_Maps is strictly prohibited without community discussion and approval, and from what you're trying to make it is simply an unnecessary and redundant addition. this wiki doesn't go for that sort of thing, we have standards to maintain. 04:22, February 2, 2014 (UTC)

commdor and lancer retired at the same time. spart and trandra lurk from time to time. the usual blog people are, i assume, busy on other fandoms/irl pursuits while the franchise awaits its next major installment. aside from monthly ME foundation writeups the wiki's basically on museum curation mode albeit with even fewer people giving a shit about curating.

Hi temp, I'm testing a new template but I'd like to add an automatic feature in it. On the line "rarity" I'd like to change the color of the text displayed on the right column accordingly to the rarity of the character (blue/siver/gold/black). I think it might work with a If syntax but I could use a hand on this. Thanks in advance.--DeldiRe (talk) 16:55, February 5, 2014 (UTC)

Hi again, thanks for your edit, I learned a code today ;). I also saw that you was not for those changes but I will explain my reasons later. In two words, as a MP player, it's quite obvious that the MP character pages has to be updated especially to match the quality of this wiki (and it's already done on the great russian wiki). what the russian wiki does or does not is irrelevant to what we do here. what works for them doesn't necessarily mean the same here, and vice versa. i assume you already notified them of your intent and plan to credit their work if it gets used. if not: if you're going to rip anything from somewhere else, be it code or pics, if you haven't the least idea what you're doing to the source then the least you can do is give proper attribution somewhere. other wikis use our assets all the time, but even i don't think that's an excuse for us to do the same.
and no, it is not "obvious" why boxes should be added. infoboxes for the sake of spamming infoboxes aren't a good design practice. i'll concede i see some positive benefits like instantly knowing availabilities and rarities but i'm not convinced they outweigh the aesthetic compromises.
in the end i'll likely order minor excisions before letting the project run its course. 09:54, February 6, 2014 (UTC)
Yes they know that I intended to use part of their work even if I didn't know that it was necessary (because everybody takes what we do here :D, for example they copy pasted most of my contributions for MEG, MEI and N7HQ^^). Moreover, it's only on my sandbox to try out and I would prefer to make our proper layout because theirs is too complex and not that efficient. What they do on others ME wiki is not "word of god" but it can be a good source of inspiration. When I said "obvious", I was speaking of the fact that we need to (IMO) clean our MP character article not that we HAVE TO put infoboxes. As you said spamming infoboxes is not always the best ideas, I'm just trying some layouts before to propose it. In this particular case, I begun with an infobox because it looks nice on russian wiki... At least nicer than what we have :)--DeldiRe (talk) 19:11, February 6, 2014 (UTC)

Hi Temp, I'm wondering if it's possible for you to rename the following two images: File:Femshep2.png and File:Shepard.png into "User_Uploaded_FemShep.png" and "User_Uploaded_Shepard.png"? I think it's a disservice to the wikia that these files are named after Shepard as if they are 'canon' when they are clearly not. If a normal user can do this, I'm not sure where to look at since it seems I can either Edit/Replace only. Thank you very much! Is there a way to talk in private I would like to discuss you deleting my photo I uploaded. Since it followed the default Shepard and even had the default armor. "Any image must be of the default male or female Shepard, and care should be taken to avoid showing as many distinguishing features as possible, like hair and facial features." The image complied with this to the best of my knowledge. --Oddball5 (talk) 08:35, February 10, 2014 (UTC)

Did you also leave that 'warning' for the person who keeps adding irrelevant links where they don't belong? Or were those your edits? looked and had more than half a mind not to bother. it's the usual case of rambling internet illiterate that does crop up from time to time. you'll hear from them once then most likely never again. the edits are confined to userspace and are inherently harmless on their own, though all bets are off once the user starts spreading gibberish on articles (or manifests evidently malicious behavior).
if you're really bothered about your copypasted words and the "spam", go talk to the person about it. what the user does (or doesn't do) in response is usually a good enough gauge in sorting the person out. i'll only close down the blog if a) enough people actually request its closure or b) it accumulates objectively worthless responses. 08:33, February 22, 2014 (UTC)

Please consider unblocking the IP 24.118.81.51. The Catalyst article had been in a vandalised state for almost an hour when this person edited it, and on closer inspection the changes seem to be more in line with attempting to fix it: Starbrats were changed back to Catalysts, biased claims were moderated, and a decorous trivia note was added. Not the way this was to be handled, of course, but I think this IP may not be a sockpuppet of the vandal at all, and ask that this block be reviewed. Thanks. Elseweyr [ talk | stalk ] March 2, 2014, 12:24:16 (UTC)

you're right, probably not a sock. to my determination, however, the other IP still pretty much fucked with the page. 2 weeks for him, a month for the other. (talk) 13:00, March 2, 2014 (UTC)

Fal 3 is not a fan creation. It's coming from Mass Effect 1 unused data. I can prove it by providing the extracted data.

I can provide more data or stop here, as you prefer.
Molator (talk) 18:45, March 8, 2014 (UTC)

this is literally the first time i've heard about this claim. i have the game, i would rather see it for myself. be so kind and point out to me where in the files it's found as well as the tools you used to extract and parse the data. (talk) 02:38, March 8, 2014 (UTC)

First thing first, the english version of the texts are in:
Mass Effect\BioGame\CookedPC\Packages\Dialog\GlobalTlk.upk
The other languages are in:
Mass Effect\BioGame\CookedPC\Packages\Localised\XX\Dialog\GlobalTlk.upk
where XX is a language code.

You can unpack upk files using: Unreal Package Extractor
from here:
http://www.gildor.org/downloads
The direct link is:
http://www.gildor.org/down/37/umodel/extract.zip
The command is:
extract.exe GlobalTlk.upk

You will get a folder "GlobalTlk".

In that folder you will find a file "GlobalTlk_tlk.BioTlkFile".

You can unpack that file using: me_tlk_tool
from here:
http://jpmod.blogspot.fr/search/label/Mass%20Effect
It's a japanese website, so i give you the direct link:
https://docs.google.com/uc?id=0B8w0rImZJdx0MDEyYmYzZjktNzViOC00NjlkLWIxY2UtZGYyNjhlMmRmOTgy&hl=ja
The command is:
tlk_tool.exe -u GlobalTlk_tlk.BioTlkFile

You will get a resulting csv file "GlobalTlk_tlk.csv".

You can open it with notepad or excel (or else).
That file contains all the texts of the game: planets, codex, etc.
In that file, i found lots of interesting texts.

I know how to extract the audio dialogs too, if you're interested.
Molator (talk) 03:45, March 8, 2014 (UTC)

good for you. there's no need for them here; audio files are only used for 2 things: codex and cut content.
now, it seems this Fal 3 does exist but another name that crops up independently is "Fal 3 Manufactory". it can possibly go in slapped with the {{Cut Content}} disclaimer, but there's the problem of insufficient context. the information you posted is literally the only thing we know about it:

“Fal 3 is a privately-owned planet in salarian space. An entire world devoted to the industrial process, its primary revenue stream is generated by the construction and sale of private spacecraft. To supplement income, Fal 3 Manufactory has launched a line of prototype omni-tools, though they are expensive and extremely rare.”

so what were we supposed to know about this entity that we never saw ingame? globaltlk data points literally all over the place compared to ME2/ME3 extracted texts isn't helping. at best it could've been the half-formed remnant of a minor ingame object, at worst it could've been a lorem ipsum equivalent placeholder.

this can probably gain more context as part of a master article rather than on its own - compared to the Nathak which wrex gave at least passing mention or the others which have their own cut content articles.

if you have enough material to spin a Mass Effect Cut Content master article, feel free to use your own userspace to make up a draft first before putting it to community discussion and voting. cut content stays in cut content: they aren't canon and aren't supposed to go into the main articles. i'll be verifying inputs as long as i'm not busy IRL - which i usually am not nowadays.

lastly, you aren't allowed to modify my comments on my own talkpage. not even for formatting purposes. (talk) 06:09, March 8, 2014 (UTC)

On that note, I have been working on compiling cut content from the first game and would appreciate anything else you could find. TheUnknown285 (talk) 16:29, March 8, 2014 (UTC)

--Hananias (talk) 17:36, March 10, 2014 (UTC)

because it's rather irrelevant in scope and already noted elsewhere. in traynor's bio. which i extensively wrote. (talk) 17:38, March 10, 2014 (UTC)

Are you okay with this change removing what seems like a nonsequitur sentence? You reverted all changes but in case you were mainly objecting to the change to the trigger paragraph I thought I'd ask if the first change was all right. Cattlesquat (talk) 02:54, March 12, 2014 (UTC)

Typically, we have three choices when voting (Yes, No, Neutral/Abstain). Right now, we have a vote going on with four choices. With more than two choices, there is a chance that no category would get a majority. There is, of course, also the chance of a tie (though that can happen with just two choices as well). I got to thinking: Do we have a policy in place for dealing with ties and/or the lack of a majority? If not, it would be a good idea for us to come up with something. TheUnknown285 (talk) 14:20, March 14, 2014 (UTC)

in case of a tie, admins can wade in and cast the deciding vote/s. practically speaking, me. spart and trandra, of course, also do get the final say.
in case of close fights, one choice leading by just one vote over all others is enough. (talk) 14:29, March 14, 2014 (UTC)

While totally aware that Reave can't be available on the first playthrough of that mission, I thought a mention still worth it for second-through-eight-hundredth playthrough folks, just on the don't-miss-this-cool-easter-eggish-thing-which-is-also-really-powerful basis. But will defer to your objection because it certainly isn't a key "strategic" choice for this mission, even if choosing it makes the mission both hilarious and a snap. Cattlesquat (talk) 14:37, March 16, 2014 (UTC)

fail. reave DOES explode barriers whether you're dosed on minagen or not. warp has the same effect, really. i actually put your claims to the test just now and found virtually identical barrier explosions. dosed reave, normal reave, dosed warp, normal warp.
PROBLEM? (talk) 16:53, March 16, 2014 (UTC)
No problems. Last message was intended as my dropping-the-matter note. I coulda sworn my Reave was doing better than my Warp, but I wasn't testing it as systematically as it sounds like you were and may be guilty of being confirmation-biased by the notes left here before me. It would be nice to have some quantifiable note on the exact effects of Minagen (other than making Shepard glow and damaging barriers/health in high doses), but that can await more extensive testing "if we ever get around to it". Cattlesquat (talk) 20:02, March 16, 2014 (UTC)

Technically it isn't so much leveling up that's the obstacle, since you will level up more than enough times on Feros to pick up the handful of points you could possibly need, it's the track unlocks for Charm/Intimidate that can only be achieved by increasing your Paragon/Renegade scores, which can only be done by progressing the other main missions. Renegade you only need to get to 25% full but to Charm you'd need Paragon all the way to 75%. That's why I emphasized the "first main world" and "allowed to accumulate" concepts over leveling up. Ultimately a player following your advice would do okay, so it's not a huge deal, but perhaps more clarity on the mechanism would be in order - up to you. Cattlesquat (talk) 17:22, March 19, 2014 (UTC)

outside the mission's scope. it's enough to alert the player to get the requisite points elsewhere. 17:37, March 19, 2014 (UTC)
Okay. The critical hint is certainly being conveyed. Cattlesquat (talk) 18:40, March 19, 2014 (UTC)

let me take some wild guesses here.
on the Commander Shepard page you wish to add:
  • that Shepard refuses to trust Cerberus or the Illusive Man.
on the Ashley Williams page you wish to say that:
  • Ashley Williams was even informed of reports indicating that Commander Shepard was alive and in an alliance with Cerberus
  • Ashley is not very fond of the idea of Shepard working with Cerberus
am i correct on both counts? (talk) 03:36, March 20, 2014 (UTC)

Any chance I can interest you in an even greater shortening of the information about the Feros side-assignments in the main mission page? Now that the most useful info has already moved off the page, I think there are many pluses to just making that part of the main mission be essentially "Left to [X], Right to [Y], Forward to [Z]. See the individual assignment articles for details." Shortens the longest article, increases traffic to where the best information is, win/win... Happy to mock it up if you're unsure. So

I see now that you had warned me an hour prior, and I'm not sure how I didn't notice it. I didn't get any notifications referring to the warning. I am not sure how the logs work on wiki, I know everything is recorded, so I REALLY wasn't lying. And I believe you. I think you'll be able to see why I WOULD be upset had I been correct in what I thought. I realize now that I was wrong. And thank you for clarifying, I will make sure to be more careful with my edits.

Again, I was not trying to lie. I'm not that sort of person. If I do something that warrants a permanent ban then by all means I should be banned. I would like to apologize for this entire thing.

Ottakanawa (talk) 03:51, April 16, 2014 (UTC)

word of advice is if i were you i wouldn't cleanslate my talkpage every time something like this happens. page histories can always bring up what you're trying to hide if that was your intent, and it reinforces the assumption that you are trying to hide something if it wasn't.
plus you seem to be the forgetful type: you forgot there were previous warnings because you erased them. that doesn't make them any less valid.
that's just my opinion, do as you will with your talkpage and just keep in mind to consult with the guidelines or us for clarifications. 09:22, April 16, 2014 (UTC)

Disambiguations

I know you're probably preoccupied with F10 and other stuff but I wanted to ask what exactly you meant should be done to the old multiplayer class articles. As stated on the project page (unless I misunderstand), should they be turned into classical disambiguation pages even though strictly there's no ambiguity between the titles within a class? If this is the case, is the idea that the monolithic links to the general class pages would not have to be changed since eg. the ME3MP/.../Vanguard page would still contain all the multiplayer Vanguards in some form? Elseweyr talkstalk April 25, 2014, 14:25:43 (UTC)

the disambig category apparently sports a vanguard (disambiguation) and engineer (disambiguation) already. it seems i was mistaken in assuming otherwise.
i think we should altogether eliminate all mainspace linkbacks on Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer/Character Customization/Vanguard (and related pages). there's still a bunch of linked user pages/comments left after that, so for now we may have to turn them to #redirects.

creation of the following proper disambigs:

Infiltrator (disambiguation)
Soldier (disambiguation)
Adept (disambiguation)
Sentinel (disambiguation)

redirection of the following pages to the disambigs:

Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer/Character Customization/Vanguard
Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer/Character Customization/Adept
Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer/Character Customization/Soldier
Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer/Character Customization/Engineer
Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer/Character Customization/Infiltrator
Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer/Character Customization/Sentinel
Adept (multiplayer)
Engineer (multiplayer)
Infiltrator (multiplayer)
Sentinel (multiplayer)
Soldier (multiplayer)
Vanguard (multiplayer)
all other mainspace links to the above

14:52, April 25, 2014 (UTC)

Right, so with the Vanguard as an example, the existing "overview of Vanguard character classes in Mass Effect 3's multiplayer mode" needs to be removed from Vanguard_(disambiguation) and could probably be replaced with a note about and link to Category:Vanguards?
And mainspace links like "Firebase Dagger is a great map for [[Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer/Character Customization/Vanguard|Vanguards]]" probably shouldn't go via the disambig since it's known which Vanguards are being referred to (and the link could instead point directly to Category:Vanguards). Elseweyr talkstalk April 25, 2014, 15:46:34 (UTC)
i envisioned the class category pages as a sort of catch-all for both SP and MP classes: vanguard guides can fall under the categories, and so does the SP class page itself, and then the powers specific to them. the categories are the superset for everything class-related (vanguard SP/MP, the guides, their used powers), the disambigs for the specific classes (cabal vanguard, n7 slayer, vanguard SP, etc). 16:01, April 25, 2014 (UTC)
I see; I'll make the adjustments to the category pages. Similarly to the Vanguard and Engineer disambigs (which already have a lot of stuff) there might be items to add to the new class disambigs other than the new invididual class pages -- the corresponding SP classes, at least. Power combo redirects

I checked what redirects exist for Power Combos and found that there are some lower-case options, as seen here. I created Power combos for easier linking in the future and only after noticed Biotic explosion has been deleted in the past. Thoughts on restoring it? Elseweyr talkstalk April 29, 2014, 01:10:43 (UTC)

redirects exist mainly to be used (the rest for legit alternate IDs and SEO). if you can justify the lowercase "Biotic explosion" (catch-all for exploding biotics as opposed to the "formal" two-word term for the game mechanic), you can restore it. 04:12, April 29, 2014 (UTC)

Player note char MP

Hi Temp,

I will start a cleanup of all the players notes related to MP, stop me if I'm wrong, but I think that I have enough experience on MP to do this job. My only fear is to do some mistakes in Dnglish. Feel free to correct them even if I think that Trandra and Elseweyr will help on this matter. --DeldiRe (talk) 10:06, April 29, 2014 (UTC)

Kudos

As far as I can tell, any further adjustments relating to the recently created character pages is beyond the scope of the project. Thank you for helping implement the changes!

Also, the featured articles never disappoint :D Elseweyr talkstalk May 1, 2014, 17:36:08 (UTC)

no prob.
with FAs, i figured why not go nuts with the choices since i only update once (or twice) a month. fun fact: anyone can actually submit FA nominations (we do have an informal system on selection criteria set down by admins before me). Genius reply. It's no wonder the Recent Changes is absolutely dead these days with such ham-fisted, unwelcoming administration. Pro tip: You're an admin, use proper punctuation and capitalize the first letter of your sentences if you wish to be taken seriously. --Jimeee (talk) 14:40, May 3, 2014 (UTC)
PROTIP: it's not "pro tip". i can write in whatever damn style i want when not fucking around in articles.
take your own advice on proper term usage or even spelling before lecturing me on my responsibilities. i have no further desire to entertain persistently clueless people when all the usual primers on wiki decorum are already laid out on the automated welcome messages. Potential E3 Questions

Hey there Chewbaboy!

My name’s Mike and I’m with Wikia’s gaming ComDev team. Just wanted to say hi and ask you a quick question about E3. As you might know, E3 is one of the biggest game conventions of the year, and it’s right around the corner. We may have the opportunity ahead of the show to interview some folks from EA/Bioware, and would love to ask them any questions about any potential upcoming Mass Effect games that you or the other admins may have.

Here’s an example of a community interview we’ve done before: http://xcom.wikia.com/wiki/File:Expert_Showcase_Special_Edition_-_XCOM_Enemy_Within

We really like letting Wikia communities ask the questions, because they’re very knowledgeable about their game of choice, and ask extremely in-depth questions that regular news outlets don’t.

If this sounds like something you’d be interested in doing, feel free to submit any questions you have here, or directly to me at mgrimm@wikia-inc.com Hope to hear back from you soon, and thanks again for all your edits & contributions to Mass Effect Wiki!

How I wish your name had been listed as "Korgoth of Barbaria" when he posted this message. The "Swedish Beef" one is a close second.
Back to the topic at hand: I have nothing pertinent to ask Bioware. Trandra (talk) 14:51, May 9, 2014 (UTC)

nearly edit conflicted. oops. (@trandra: t'was a linguistic in-joke.. but yeah, "bad" timing) anyway, where was i.
looks interesting. thank you for the headsup. emailed sparthawg and trandra about it.
personally i'm drawing a blank as my focus has for the longest time been consolidating what the wiki currently has. presently bioware has barely hinted anything about the next game, and they're sure to reveal basic teasers by E3, so i wouldn't know what to ask besides the obvious (and revealed anyway): game title, setting (where in the timeline or is it a "reboot"), if any familiar characters drop by, yep.
is the questions submission open to the public, or is it community admins only? i'd set up an open forum for interested lurkers and spread the word out if yes.
there's a minor snag, however. our current video policy prohibits uploading for pretty much everything. we can link or embed, though, and blog about it, so if i can assume the interview may be hosted at wikia's dedicated subdomain for video instead of here, it's not really a prob. Report

Temp, I'm filing a complaint about one of the users here, FirstDrellSpectre. He admitted he wanted to get a reaction out of me. Here's the proof on that:

"It's not easy to write correctly with some broken buttons on the keyborad Mistakes happen Your silence doesn't make me leave It only increases my desire to see your reaction"

Not only that, but he has made similar actions before. Berating others for disagreeing with him, encouraged people to commit suicide, and spammed the chat pages with his rants. Thankfully, he was blocked there for a month. Feel free to ask the others of his behavior. If you can, I would encourage you to block him here because of that behavior. --Nord Ronnoc (talk) 21:41, May 9, 2014 (UTC)

Nord on other hand said "I wouldn't care less about what you say" and "I don't care, keep spamming". "It's not easy to write correctly with some broken buttons on the keyborad. Mistakes happen." was my respond on Nord's "Your grammar sucks, big time." and about silence Nord was on the chat and when I wanted to speak, but he didn't respond. I only wanted to him to speak to him, but he was ignoring me. I saw it as he did not respond for 10 mintues on purpose. Is there any recording of chats? If not then, we have words against words. What I do on other wikia has nothing to do, what I do on ME wikia. For now I did nothing wrong on ME wikia, problems on one wikia don't mean problems on another. Am I supposed to be blocked for what I can do and what I did on other wikia?FirstDrellSpectre (talk) 22:25, May 9, 2014 (UTC)

i see.
firstdrellspectre is right that offences in other wikis are irrelevant here, but if the underlying cause is the same, then there's bound to be shared prohibitions against committing the same offences here.
this is a minor case of disruptive behavior.
for now, i'm only issuing a warning. what i'll do next should go without saying if this escalates further. (talk) 06:33, May 10, 2014 (UTC)
I was offline at the time of this incident, but Nord Ronnoc is currently sitting at a handful of warnings for insulting others in chat and has expressed exasperation over "boring" topics like Mass Effect, instead introducing politics or other unrelated topics mid-discussion. FirstDrellSpectre has 0 warnings and is one of the few who use chat to discuss Mass Effect or the wiki exclusively. Not suggesting any additional measures are required at the moment, but as an active mod I thought I'd offer my two cents. Elseweyr talkstalk May 10, 2014, 14:37:23 (UTC)
#9 & #7 in grounds for blocking applicable if nobody really wanted to talk about what nord is pushing at the time and per rules on offtopic discussions.
please make a notation at his talkpage if said events happen again. thanks. last warning, if indeed told to shape up numerous times. you know the drill if behavior persists after last warnings.
as to the case at hand, it doesn't really change anything since there's the stated intent not to be bothered and the stated intent to ignore the former. (talk) 15:18, May 10, 2014 (UTC)
Yes, the warnings (no airlocking) were issued with spacings of a week or two and in the last I indeed promised a ban outright at the next offence. Was able to resolve the situations in chat so I didn't deem talk page notices necessary at the time. I mainly reacted to the invitation to "ask the others" about FDS's behavior, but as you said will take appropriate action if need be. Elseweyr talkstalk May 10, 2014, 17:06:52 (UTC)

I almost forgot, but it just occurred to me that Drell also called me by my real name, which violated the fourth policy. Sorry for the bad timing, but I thought I should let you know. --Nord Ronnoc (talk) 20:04, May 10, 2014 (UTC)

which you freely gave out on your own userspace.
this is now borderline harassment. engage in more transparent attempts at having the other party banned and i will block you instead. 04:13, May 11, 2014 (UTC)

Paragon Lost

Hello

Paragon Lost plays out after ME2

"Mass Effect: Paragon Lost, prequel to the best-selling Mass Effect 3"

http://masseffectparagonlost.com/story/

I made a post on the talk page of the system alliance page —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 83.249.2.192 (talk · contr).

incorrect.
read the section about paragon lost again.
  • in 2183
  • Two years later,
the 2185 section of the film is more or less concurrent to shepard raiding the collector base as in ME3 vega references his data being redundant with what shepard already discovered.
additionally, the first few minutes of the story happens in 2183.
the section stays where it is. Incorrect you are sooo wrong as I have replied in the System alliance article

Which pArt of this here dont you get

1 IF THE SYSTEM ALLIANCE HAD KNOW ABOUT THE COLLECTORS AND HAD A CURE FOR THE COLLECTOR TOXIN BEFORE ME2 THEN WHY THE HELL WOULD THE SALARIN NEED TO MAKE ANOTHER CURE?

2 IF THE SYSTEM ALLIANCE BEFORE ME2 KNEW THAT THE COLLECTORS WERE TAKING PEOPLE FROM COLONIES THEN WHY WOULD IT HAD BEEN SUCH AN UNKNOWN FACTOR IN ME 2

3 WHY DOES THE MOVIES OWN HOMEPAGE SAY THAT PARAGON LOST IS A PREQUEL TO ME 3?
