Power Pages / Mass Effect 3 Question / Admin Request

Temp,

I found an issue while going through the Mass Effect 3 power pages after having edited most of them to ensure they matched the in game text and all of the pages had the same format.

I'm asking for your help because you are an absolute stickler for details and you look at a situation quickly and give a clear answer. I appreciate that.

Here is what I found. Keeping in mind that "you don't do multiplayer". Some of the power pages list the characters that the powers apply to at the top of the page as well as the Availability section at the bottom of the page. The Sentry Turret power is an example.

Sentry Turret

Some pages use a generic version sort of in the middle of the two listing just the class not the specific characters at the top while also listing specifically in the Availability section at the bottom. The Cluster Grenade power page is an example.

Cluster Grenade

Some pages do not list the characters at the top of the page and only list the characters in the Availability section at the bottom. The Nova power page is an example.

Nova

There is a mix of all three in the power pages. While this isn't a universe ending find, I'm unclear as to which of the three is correct. After thinking about this for a while, I think that it should only be listed at the bottom as there is a specific section for it. No sense in duplicating information at the top. There is nothing wrong with it being at the top, just that the pages aren't all the same.

I'm willing to correct all of the pages to the same style, I just don't know which is correct. Top and bottom or Availability section only?

As you know the details of the manual of style the best, can you make an admin determination on this for me?

I will then being correcting pages.

Thanks for your help. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.26.159.235‎ (talk · contr). 15:06, January 16, 2018 (UTC)

Temp, after further review, I found the Mass Effect Wiki:Manual of Style/Powers page and it does show having the availability section at the bottom and describes being brief in the top of the page. It doesn't show having the characters repeated at the top.
Would you agree as the admin that the extra duplication should be removed from power pages (using Mass Effect 2 & 3 power pages manual of style format)?
Thanks for your help. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.26.159.235‎ (talk · contr). 15:34, January 16, 2018 (UTC)
the intro text was supposed to be a -very- short description of what the power is/does but usually people aren't imaginative enough (or have the time) to say anything else other than which character/s have it. if you can think up of something succinct, feel free to do so. Thank you for your help Temp. I will begin the process of verifying the availability section for all of the powers (adding it if it is missing) and updating the top portion to remove duplicated info. I'll put a short layman's version of what the power does (if it isn't obviously clear from the name). —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.26.159.235‎ (talk · contr). 21:09, January 16, 2018 (UTC)
Side note Temp. From the 5 I have fixed so far, I haven't put anything extra in the top paragraph because everything is already obviously in the page title or the player notes section in much better detail. If I do find sections that make sense to add I will add them, but at this point I don't think there will be much to add. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.26.159.235‎ (talk · contr). 22:22, January 16, 2018 (UTC)

Warlord Rage Stub Page Status

Temp,

The Warlord Rage page is showing at the top that it is considered a stub article but from everything that I can see on the page it looks exactly like other mature power pages for Mass Effect 3. The description is correct, all of the power ranks are listed, all of the sections appear to be in the correct places per MOS. I don't see anything on the talk page about missing items. There doesn't appear to be anything that needs expanding or extra information needed from what I can see.

I may be totally wrong on this and feel free to light me on fire if I am. :)

Is there a way to convert this over to a mature page and remove stub status? Or is there a process to do this i.e. you have to submit for a proposal, vote, etc. like you have told me about before?

Thanks for going over this for me. I don't know much about the stub process and didn't see anything obvious in the MOS on stubs. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.26.159.235‎ (talk · contr). 23:26, January 16, 2018 (UTC)

Temp,
I'm an idiot and put the wrong page link. I just noticed it. It should have been Warlord Rage and not Krogan Warlord Sentinel. I fixed the message above and title with the correct link/name. Sorry about that. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.26.159.235‎ (talk · contr). 07:22, January 18, 2018 (UTC)
right, sorry forgot about this. the page (and some similar powers) doesn't have any player notes although the others aren't marked as stubs. if there really isn't anything notable about it, perhaps a couple of cost-based analyses will do (e.g. if it's better maxing this out first instead of other powers, if it's better off alternating points between this and some other powers, etc). T̴̴͕̲̞̳̖̼̱͒͛̎͒ͫ̃ͧeͩ̈̽̈҉͓̝̰̼̦̫̤̀͠m̫̪̪̯̻͎̫̅̇̓̇͌̚p̸̙̝̓̓͌ͨ͆ͣͥ̂̕o͒̽͐̽͏̞̬̻͕͔͕͚̰͍͠͞ṙ̢̞͚͈̹̰ͨ̓ͭ̈́̌ạ̢̧̪̹̺̺̣̹̲͂͆̏ͪͨ͒ͭř̹͈͜͠y̷͍̻̜̹̼̾̽̈́e̵̹̼̟̦͚͐̈́͌͘d͉̲̣̻͉̱͗̅ḭ̷̻̆͋̆̓̔͝t̨͍̦̫̗͂̅̍̋̆ͩ͝ộ̫̟̬̳̝̲̾ͫ̒̿ͮ̑̚rͯ̎ͨͭ̄̿̽͛҉̠̫̱̠̘̘̲́ͅ7̩̻ͤͩͨ͝͡8̜̣̙͇̻ͨ͛͛̆͒̆̽̒͐͜͡ ͥ̍̉̃̇ͥ̓ͨ͏̕҉̥̹͓̗̤̠̖̤ (talk) 13:36, January 18, 2018 (UTC)
Temp,
You did nothing wrong. You say at the top of your page that you do have other things going on and you will get to requests as you are able (as long as they aren't absolutely stupid and a waste of time / why did you revert my edit that I didn't think about before I did it and certainly didn't read the MOS). :)
I messed up and didn't give you the right information and that was why I figured you hadn't worked on it yet. Silence does communicate a message quickly sometimes. I went back to check and then found my error (even though you weren't ignoring me/waiting for me to find my mistake). I was able to fix the mistake and allow you to give me the help I had asked for.
I updated the Warlord Rage page with information based upon the differences between the Rage power and the Warlord Rage power. As this is a passive power that you can choose health/shield vs. melee damage builds, there isn't a whole lot of comparing to do. Point for point what you spend on this passive power is either about melee or health/shields. You can't really get a large number of combinations / gameplay changes based upon your choices for this power. You either want to kill quicker or not get killed quicker. :)
I was able to take the note from the Rage page about the melee build style of play but the rest is personal preference. Most Fitness pages are the same way for ME3 multiplayer. Some people like one way of play or the other. As I prefer one way, I can't really put lots of differing opinions and I don't want to slant it towards my style of play. Keeping it neutral per MOS. Most play style information is on the Krogan Warlord Sentinel page already with lots of different types of power builds from other players with the 4 other powers taken into account as well so just copying and pasting stuff onto Warlord Rage didn't seem appropriate.
I was able to put information there about the regeneration and some comparison to Bloodlust. While not the same, it does let the player know there is additional information on other pages and similar characters / styles of play can be considered.
I tried to keep the player notes factual based on other power pages, give a new person looking for information, comparisons, differences (if there are any) for Warlord Rage a place to find that information, and generally make the person more well informed without just copying sections from the main character page or other pages just to fill up a section.
Do you feel that this is enough to remove stub status (or start the stub removal process)?
Thanks for your help. I really do appreciate you taking the time to go over these items. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.26.159.235‎ (talk · contr). 15:01, January 18, 2018 (UTC)
Temp, I removed the Stub tag from the page. -- GS877 (talk) 22:34, February 8, 2018 (UTC)

Photos In Asset Storage

Temp,

While updating the power pages per the previous posts, I stumbled across several small photos of the power icons that are not found anywhere else on the site. Most other icons are already available in the Powers area. I was able to use several of them though. It looks like you created a storage area for the images in 2013.

User:Temporaryeditor78/Asset_Storage

specifically the - ME3 power icons (lksdjf)

The images come up on the pages I used them on when I use [ [ file : (file name) ] ].

I updated the pages with the images listed below that didn't already have icons available in the standard format.

Armor Piercing Arrows.png

Biotic Focus.png

Cain Trip Mine.png

Concussive Arrows.png

Nightshade Blades.png

Icon Repair Matrix.png

Most icons are a smaller size and use a box format around them. The remaining icons in that storage area are higher resolution versions of existing icons minus the box format (like in the game).

Do the 6 images I used need to be moved from "Asset Storage" to the Powers category page so that they are available for use / categorized correctly (not in the wrong place)?

Category:Powers

I see at the bottom of that page that most all of the remaining icons are shown in the "Media" section.

I wasn't sure and wanted to ask what should be done. Can you help me with this when you have a chance? No rush as the images link correctly and no one has even looked in the storage area since they were put there. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.26.159.235‎ (talk · contr). 20:56, January 18, 2018 (UTC)

Temp,
Just saw your message on my talk page. I undid all of the images on the 6 pages. I was typing to you as you sent to me. I agree that they should all be the same format. I'd love to have them all be high res pics that look better but I don't have the PC version to capture the pics. If in the future they become available, I would be willing to update them if requested to.
Thanks. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.26.159.235‎ (talk · contr). 21:06, January 18, 2018 (UTC)

Combined ME:A Skill Pages / ME3 Power Pages

Temp,

I ran into a ME3 power page that has a Mass Effect Andromeda skill on it as well. I seem to remember a revert edit you did to a power page to remove someone adding what is really a new skill page.

Tactical Cloak

It's the first I've found during the power pages review I'm doing.

Should that portion on Tactical Cloak be moved to a dedicated "skill" page for Andromeda? I've seen lots of other skill pages with the same names as familiar power pages. I've also seen the redirect at the top of pages saying "if you are looking for XYZ skill it is here..."

Side Note - It looks like there actually is a skill page already for Tactical Cloak.

I don't play / own / know hardly anything about ME:A / MOS though.

I may find additional pages that have been placed together.

Should I strike the Andromeda section from the ME/ME2/ME3 Tactical Cloak power page? When / If I find this again, should these be reverted / undone and state "Requires a new skill page, not placed on a power page per Admin".

Thanks. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.26.159.235‎ (talk · contr). 21:41, January 18, 2018 (UTC)

Incinerate Skill / Power Pages

Temp,

I found the same issue as Tactical cloak on the Incinerate power page. Looks like someone added the ME:A skill to that page and then someone else created a separate skill page.

Incinerate

Incinerate_(skill)

I will be removing the Incinerate (skill) from that page and adding the redirect at the top of the page to the correct ME:A skill page.
________________________________

I also found that the Incinerate (skill) page incorrectly listed in the Category Powers page.

Can you remove the Incinerate (skill) page from the Category:Powers page? No other skill appears on that page (that I've found so far) but instead they are all in the Category:Skills page.

Power Pages Review and Updates Complete

Temp,

I've gone through all of the Mass Effect 2 & 3 powers pages now (Category:Powers) and they are all standardized per the MOS standards. All redirects for ME:A pages are in place as well. Categories were reviewed and added/removed as needed. Spacing, sections, and in-game text were all reviewed.

The in-game text on a few of the pages (less than 10 pages total) hasn't been reviewed yet because I haven't unlocked the multiplayer characters yet. (5 left) The format and information on them is standardized though. Once I unlock those characters, I will review the in-game text to check for accuracy and correct as needed.

Please let me know if there is anything you see that needs to be reviewed or checked and I'll go back over them again. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.26.159.235‎ (talk · contr). 18:26, January 21, 2018 (UTC)

Template Edit / Potential Addition To Template

Temp,

I have a couple of quick questions for you before I embark on a potential project about over cover grabs in multiplayer.

I was editing the Combat (Mass Effect 3) page this evening and I noticed that there is a detailed description of regular and melee attacks for single player. Each multiplayer page also has regular, heavy melee attacks, and movements described in detail.

Each multiplayer page uses the template below to put that format into place.

Template:ME3MPMeleeTable

I noticed that the ME3 combat page talks about stabbing and biotically punching but in multiplayer krogan characters just do a physical punch. (I edited the text to reword and include the physical punch as well).

This got me thinking about over cover grabs as they are different than regular or heavy melees.

I would like to add a line after Heavy Melee called "Grab" for all 65 multiplayer characters. A description of what happens when you grab a character over cover. (I've included a mocked up Human engineer below as an example)

  • Regular Melee – Punch
    • Melee Sequence: The Human Engineer executes a series of up to three punches.
  • Heavy Melee (Incendiary Omni-Blade) – The Human Engineer strikes with an omni-blade charged with incendiary energy.
  • Grab (Incendiary Omni-Blade) - The Human Engineer grabs and then stabs an enemy with an omni-blade charged with incendiary energy.

________________________________

Was this type of thing ever proposed in the past?

As this is a change to a template(which I can't edit), does this require a sandbox and presentation for a vote to make this change?

I realize I would have to collect data on all 65 characters (which is easy to do but would take time). I just don't want to take the time to get all of the information if you say this is silly / unneeded / already discussed in the past and voted down, etc.

Thanks for your help and advice. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.26.159.235‎ (talk · contr). 04:39, February 3, 2018 (UTC)

ME3 Combat Page Formating

Temp,

I saw your edit on the Combat (Mass Effect 3) page and almost went with exactly how you changed it. The order you chose was one of three styles I was think about order wise. Before enemy types, split (like you did), or afterwards. I didn't know about the Note: . It seemed a bit "harsh" almost to me and I was on the fence. I wanted someone looking at the page to be drawn to the information but it seemed like too much. That was why I put them at the end after the text. If I had gone text only I would have done the split like you did with no notes.

Thank you for fixing the order and removing the notes. I will keep that formatting in mind in the future. On a character page or power page I would have bullet pointed it and put it in the player notes section with no note. Very few pages have that now and most are really big things. A few I got rid of as they were actually things that should be bullet point notes but some I left as they were there long before me. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.26.159.235‎ (talk · contr). 04:52, February 3, 2018 (UTC)

I saw you stripped the footer out of the middle as well. Also, I was iffy on that on. It was a footer but kind of a nice table of all of the characters right there for the reader to click "show" and see them all listed or it stayed condensed in just a single line. I slightly reworded my sentence to point to the multiplayer customization page with a hyperlink. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.26.159.235‎ (talk · contr). 05:06, February 3, 2018 (UTC)

Navbox Classes Template Problem / Admin Request

Temp,

I found something that is way beyond my super limited knowledge of wiki. After each instance where the Template:Navbox classes listed below is used in an article, "/onlyinclude" appears (I think in error).

{ { Navbox classes } }

I did research online and tried to find an answer before writing to you but this is advanced stuff. From what I can see, part of the Classes page is turned into template that displays a small box wherever the template is used to show the original 6 classes from Mass Effect. Part of the source document is used with the onlyinclude tool (with a closing /onlyinclude tag).

For some reason, the /onlyinclude closing tag is showing up after the template box. (I can't find the Navbox Classes template on the category:templates page for this wiki so I can't review the text to learn about how they created this.)

Can you fix this error so that closing tag doesn't show up anymore wherever this template is used? (or is this an inherent problem to using the process they used?)

If there is an easy way to explain to me how to fix this, please teach me what that is so that I can fix things like that in the future. I think this is an isolated incident after doing a search for that closing tag. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.26.159.235‎ (talk · contr). 12:14, February 4, 2018 (UTC)

Temp, I found similar code text in another navbox template for ME:A races and it looks like this closing tag should be < /includeonly >.
I put an extra spaces in the code lines below to stop them from activating the functions called out.
Template:Navbox_races
< includeonly >{ {#ifeq:{ {ns:0}} | { {NAMESPACE}} | [ [Category:Races]] }}< /includeonly >
Template:Navbox_classes
< includeonly >{ {#ifeq:{ {ns:0}} | { {NAMESPACE}} | [ [Category:Classes]] }}< /onlyinclude >
First, can you please correct the Template: Navbox Classes to use the correct closing tag < /includeonly >?
Second, can you add the Template:Navbox Classes to the following categories? Category:Templates and Category:Navbox Templates? (this matches other navbox templates already categorized)
It says I do not have permission to edit templates (unable to add categories either) and it is locked. Thank you. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.26.159.235‎ (talk · contr). 15:47, February 4, 2018 (UTC)
Temp, I was able to edit the template after my account was created. I updated the template to say includeonly. I had to go to each page and delete the navbox, then read it for the update to happen. For whatever reason the change required the text to be retyped/selected. No edit shows up as no text changed but the problem went away on all 6 pages where this problem was located. -- GS877 (talk) 22:53, February 8, 2018 (UTC)

New Project Request / ME3 Hi-Res Icons

Temp, I have been doing some testing this afternoon with 2 images from N7HQ for the hi-res icons for ME3 powers. I wanted to see if downloading the photos and uploading them into the wiki would give a clean photo. Everything looks fine. As you spoke about in the previous post User_talk:Temporaryeditor78#Photos_In_Asset_Storage, all ME3 power icon photos would have to be replaced at one time to Hi-Res replacing the low-res ones.

After fiddling around for 20 minutes trying to get photos to load, naming etc, I believe I can get all of the photos downloaded. With that said:

  • Image amounts - I DO NOT want to try to upload them unless I have admin permission. 100+ files. They are 10-12kb png files. (it says no more than 10 images and then the admins will get not happy with you).
  • Naming them - You can't have two images with the same name. As these images are all over the articles, the names would have to be the exact same so that when it goes looking for them it uses the correct replacement images.
  • Photo Credit - When the photo is uploaded, what history / credit acknowledgement should go on these photos so that I'm not in trouble for copyright issues.

I haven't downloaded them yet, but when I do, I was planning on naming them very close so that a minor change to each name and they would replace exactly the existing text. Example: XME3_Annihilation_Field.png. By deleting the X, the file would be ready for use as it is the exact name already in use. The old file would have to either be replaced outright or renamed itself. Supposedly, only admins can rename files.

I guess I don't know the best path forward. I don't want to download them, name them, upload them, and have you have to rename 2 files for every replaced photo. I also don't know if you want the old low res files to exist as a different named file so that they aren't gone or if you want a direct replacement during upload.

I can get all of the files. I can make the names exact or use slight variation. I can upload them all to my vault location User:GS877/Vault_Storage or any other location you specify.

1. Do you want me to do this? 2. If so, what is the best path forward for this?

Thanks In Advance.-- GS877 (talk) 23:53, February 4, 2018 (UTC)

Temp, I was able to get all of the icons today (even some of the icons that in game aren't on the website (Ancient Warrior is an example). I am confirming icons against ingame currently to make sure I have them all.
I am going to perform the following:
  • 1. I will create a vault for the low res images and download each low res image and rename it (with DNU - Do Not Use). I will then upload the image to the low res vault so that the replaced images aren't lost. If you so decide that they are no longer needed, you can remove them.
    • 1b. This low res vault can stay or go. I will make sure that there is a clear note at the top listing what they are and not to use them.
  • There is no need for this. I am able to replace the image (when viewing the file page directly) and it gives the option of reverting so there is no need for a secondary backup.
  • 2. I will then upload the hi-res image with the exact name already used. This way files are replaced instead of doing a bunch of renaming.
    • 2b. I will make sure that images are correctly categorized to show up on the Category:Powers page.
  • 3. I will then confirm every page that the image is used on to ensure that the image uploaded correctly and replaced on all of the pages.
  • 4. Some images are named badly / don't follow convention so I'll upload them with a corrected name to say "ME3 (Power Name)".
    • 4b. Any image that needs a corrected name will have each page using it fixed to ensure the image loads correctly.
  • :**4c. Any corrected name will be corrected for the low res version as well. Not needed.
  • 4c. If there are like 100 pages that need the name fixed, I'm not changing the name at this time. :) Just too many places to fix.
5. I will start with A and go through to Z doing each power one at a time. That way each is correct and ready and I don't have 20 pages have finished / not corrected.
6. Any images with duplicate images or other names will be tagged with { {delete } } to remove them from the system.

If you disagree with this plan, please let me know in the next few hours while I am checking the in game icons. Thanks in advance. -- GS877 (talk) 22:04, February 5, 2018 (UTC)

Hey Temp, I got most of them from N7HQ multiplayer menu. Strangely enough, the Russian version of this very wiki has all of the hi res icons already in use. ru.masseffect.wikia.com. A few of the icons aren't on the N7HQ site and some of them are actually incorrect. (they made the game and they are wrong. HA!) Those few icons I couldn't find and most of the single player hi res icons I was able to get from the Russian version of this site.
I have the Warp ammo site listed below. It is in Russian but google translate gets pretty close on text. The first icon matches the hi res photos on N7HQ exactly. N7HQ doesn't list the single player icons like biotic protector but the Russian wikia has them.
((ht tp://ru.masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/%D0%94%D0%B5%D1%84%D0%BE%D1%80%D0%BC%D0%B8%D1%80%D1%83%D1%8E%D1%89%D0%B8%D0%B5_%D0%BF%D0%B0%D1%82%D1%80%D0%BE%D0%BD%D1%8B/ME3))
I can't get the link to work and publish. I added an extra space.
If you need for me to cite where they cam from I can go back and do that for all of the images. Please let me know what you would like to do going forward.
Thanks.

rollback all changes since the source isn't legit. the russian guys do not distinguish between actual game (or official website) assets and fanmade ones in decorating their site. Temp, Is N7HQ.masseffect.com (EA's multiplayer ME3 website) considered a legitimate source for image materials? The MOS says that official art is considered acceptable for upload.
All of the multiplayer images are from N7HQ. There are only a few images I had to rely on the Russian wikia to try and find. The single player ammo powers, the images that you have in the temporary vault on your user page, and the Omni-bow / Ancient Warrior passive class photos.
When I tried to upload the same images as the temporary storage area you placed the prior hi res images, it says they are the exact same images. So much so that it wanted me to reconsider uploading them due to duplication.
The remaining ammo powers/passive class images (7 total I think) look legitimate on sizing, resolution, and matching what in game pictures look like. I studied them closely to make sure I wasn't getting knock off photos or bad screen grabs. They look exactly like they came from EA. The light blue color on white background, natural size, file type, etc. If they were low res or looked bad / watermarked / anything considered unacceptable I wouldn't use them.
I'm only asking before I start the process of undoing. You know this stuff much better than I do and I respect your judgment. Thank for your help on this. -- GS877 (talk) 05:38, February 6, 2018 (UTC)
looks like i misread a bit.
anything from n7hq is legit although it should be attributed to them. anything from any other language versions of the wiki is suspect since we do not know if they used official assets or not. in short, don't rip from the other language projects and go straight to the source.
if you're unable to actually locate some icons from n7hq, our hands are tied. the icons have to come from somewhere other than other wikis and unless we know where we can't do anything about it. You are tough but always fair Temp. I appreciate your attention to detail. I tend to write lots of detail so that someone doesn't have to ask additional questions but it can be a lot to read. (Nope, never was accused of too little detail.) :)
I will continue the update and cite the images but I need a little bit of help.
Is "Sourced from N7HQ" enough? This is the first time I've uploaded images to a wikia of any kind.
If that isn't what I should use, could you recommend text or point to an article that is attributed well? Do I put it in the "about" tab? I just don't want to have to redo work or have it not be up to your standard.
I'll search deeper and see if I can find those few missing images on EA so they can be used.
Thanks again Temp. I really do appreciate your help. -- GS877 (talk) 06:08, February 6, 2018 (UTC)
yep, sourced from n7hq should suffice. never made any mp characters so i wouldn't know though (the other admins WOULD, however, as well as any other guys who played mp. verifiability = serious business). Temp, I did some additional researching and I will go with fairuse and a note below each "Sourced from N7HQ." I will have all pages updated shortly. -- GS877 (talk) 06:44, February 6, 2018 (UTC)
yep, in case of first upload there's a dropdown for licensing. it's always fair use. on uploading over an old image the old one -usually- has the licensing info already so only the sourcing attribution of the new image is needed.
applicable categories also apply on the summary box to save time on going back to tag the images later. All icon images uploaded today (A-H) now have license headers with fair use tags and a note about "Sourced from N7HQ." Any images from now on will have these added. I'm also ensuring that each icon has the correct categories (for both ME2 & ME3).
I am verifying each page the image is on after upload to make sure when the image changes there are no issues. Anything I encounter I correct at that time (very little if any so far).
Thank you for your help Temp. I appreciate you taking the time to review and correct any errors I make. -- GS877 (talk) 07:10, February 6, 2018 (UTC)
All icons for ME3 powers have been switched to hi res icons. All icons were tagged correctly and cited appropriately. All pages with each icon were reviewed to ensure that the icons show up correctly. Spacing and sizing were reviewed. -- GS877 (talk) 22:56, February 8, 2018 (UTC)

Nova Power Page / Continuing Slur Filter Problem

Temp, I'm still having the problem with being unable to edit the Nova power page.

We discussed this previously here on your talk page.

Your advice was to wait and register an account. BOTH. (Not one or the other.) :)

I registered my account and it's been at least a few weeks since I tried to make the edit to add bulletpoints to match in game blue bars for Rank 5B for the Nova power.

I know that you have clearly stated that 1) don't do multiplayer and 2) don't make edits you can't verify for yourself.

This power is used by the Vanguard in singe player as well as the Human Vanguard in multiplayer mode.

Rank 5B Half Blast is the only power I can't finish the format editing so that they all match. The slur filter just won't allow me to add the text for the 3 bulletpoints with the reduced numbers for Rank 5B Half Blast.

I will put the math below here so that you can see where the numbers come from. I have verified each number in game by choosing each branch of the power tree to confirm that the numbers are actual in game numbers you would get.

(I removed the words and changed to text because the slur filter kept kicking back my message. Sorry for the triple length on this message but it wouldn't let me send this message unless I typed out the numbers and removed certain words.)

D starts at 350 at Rank 1. All % increases/decreases are based on the starting number and not the accumulated number. F starts at 450 N at Rank 1. All % increases/decreases are based on the starting number and not the accumulated number. R starts at 4 m. All % increases/decreases are based on the starting number and not the accumulated number.

Rank 2 increase r by 25%.
Rank 2 R calculation. R four m times zero point two five = one m. New total for Rank 2 R is four m + one m = five m.

Rank 3 increases by 30% both d and f.
Rank 3 D calculation. D three hundred fifty times zero point three = one hundred five. New total for Rank 3 D is three hundred fifty + one hundred five = four hundred fifty five.
Rank 3 F calculation. F four hundred fifty N times zero point three = one hundred thirty five . New total for Rank 3 F is four hundred fifty N + one hundred thirty five N = five hundred eighty five N.

Rank 4A increases by 40% both d and f.
Rank 4A D calculation. D three hundred fifty times zero point four = one hundred forty. New total for Rank 4A D is four hundred fifty five + one hundred forty = five hundred ninety five.
Rank 4A F calculation. F four hundred fifty N times zero point four = one hundred eighty N. New total for Rank 4A F is five hundred eighty five N + one hundred eighty N = seven hundred sixty five N.

Rank 4B increase r by 40%.
Rank 4B R calculation. R four m times zero point four = one point six zero m. New total for Rank 4B R is 5 m + one point six zero m = six point six zero m.

Rank 5B reduces f and d by 40%.
If you chose 4A, then the calculation numbers are below:
Rank 5B D calculation. D three hundred fifty times zero point four = one hundred forty. New total for Rank 5B D is five hundred ninety five - one hundred forty = four hundred fifty five.
Rank 5B F calculation. F four hundred fifty N times zero point four = one hundred eighty N. New total for Rank 5B F is seven hundred sixty five N - one hundred eighty N = five hundred eighty five N.

If you chose 4B, then the calculation numbers are below:
Rank 5B D calculation. D three hundred fifty times zero point four = one hundred forty. New total for Rank 5B D is four hundred fifty - one hundred forty = three hundred fifteen.
Rank 5B F calculation. F four hundred fifty N times zero point four = one hundred eighty N. New total for Rank 5B F is five hundred eighty five N - one hundred eighty N = four hundred five N.

Normally I wouldn't ask again to beat a dead horse even deader (yes, grammar mistake on purpose :) ). You have clearly stated your position on editing anything multiplayer or numbers you haven't verified. I have followed your advice given previously and the filter still won't allow me to make the change.

As this is also used in singleplayer ME3 (and not just multiplayer), I'm not allowed to make the edit due to the slur filter, and I've given extensive data on where the numbers come from: In this one special narrow case (As an admin) can you add the lines below so that the Rank 5B power is correctly formatted to match all of the other ME3 power pages?

Thanking you very much in advance. -- GS877 (talk) 18:38, February 6, 2018 (UTC)

Rank 5B Half Blast

Gain the option to use Nova two times in a row by reducing its barrier consumption by 50% but at the cost of reducing d and f by 40%.

BP ' ' ' D a m a g e : ' ' ' 4 5 5 ( F o r c e & D a m a g e ), 3 1 5 ( R a d i u s )
BP ' ' ' F o r c e : ' ' ' 5 8 5 N ( F o r c e & D a m a g e ), 4 0 5 N ( R a d i u s )
BP ' ' ' R a n g e : ' ' ' 5 m ( F o r c e & D a m a g e ), 6 . 6 0 m ( R a d i u s )

as i said before wait a while after creating the account and the matter will resolve itself. if, say, half a year(!) after this the problem still persists i'll then have a temporary fix applied before notifying fandom higher-ups about the issue T̴̴͕̲̞̳̖̼̱͒͛̎͒ͫ̃ͧeͩ̈̽̈҉͓̝̰̼̦̫̤̀͠m̫̪̪̯̻͎̫̅̇̓̇͌̚p̸̙̝̓̓͌ͨ͆ͣͥ̂̕o͒̽͐̽͏̞̬̻͕͔͕͚̰͍͠͞ṙ̢̞͚͈̹̰ͨ̓ͭ̈́̌ạ̢̧̪̹̺̺̣̹̲͂͆̏ͪͨ͒ͭř̹͈͜͠y̷͍̻̜̹̼̾̽̈́e̵̹̼̟̦͚͐̈́͌͘d͉̲̣̻͉̱͗̅ḭ̷̻̆͋̆̓̔͝t̨͍̦̫̗͂̅̍̋̆ͩ͝ộ̫̟̬̳̝̲̾ͫ̒̿ͮ̑̚rͯ̎ͨͭ̄̿̽͛҉̠̫̱̠̘̘̲́ͅ7̩̻ͤͩͨ͝͡8̜̣̙͇̻ͨ͛͛̆͒̆̽̒͐͜͡ ͥ̍̉̃̇ͥ̓ͨ͏̕҉̥̹͓̗̤̠̖̤ (talk) 02:37, February 7, 2018 (UTC)
Thank you for clarifying that Temp. I will do exactly as requested going forward.
Just to be clear, should I try this change like every two weeks or should I not try at all for 6 months?
The reason I'm asking is this. If every time you try to do the change it starts the "countdown" block clock again and you just keep pushing out the date it will allow the change or if it is a set period of time no matter the number of tries?
If you are not allowed to reveal a specific answer because it deals with filter mechanics I understand. Try multiple times over time or wait a long time will suffice as well.
Thanks for your help with this. -- GS877 (talk) 21:17, February 7, 2018 (UTC)

Weapon Mods Page Minor Text Problems / Locked Page

Temp, I recently added links into all of the weapon mods used in multiplayer (there is a table on the customization page.) This matches the other tables for multiplayer characters or weapons. Easy to click and go.

During that edit, I was checking in game text against each upgrade as I was adding links and I found some minor issues. The Weapon Mods page is locked off for edits and I was unable to fix them. (I understand why this was locked off so that everyone would stop fiddling with it. A lot of pages link to this page and small changes could have big impacts.)

Can you fix the following small text issues I found?

1. Weapon_Mods#Shotgun_Blade_Attachment - There is no "-" between Tungsten and carbide. Dash (-) should be removed.
2. Weapon_Mods#SMG_Recoil_System - The text is missing the word "an" before the word expert and a period at the end of the sentence. The text should read - Increase weapon mass for a split second per shot by using an expert timing-VI to reduce weapon kick and improve aim.
3. Weapon_Mods#SMG_Scope - The note sentence is missing a period at the end.
4. Weapon_Mods#Assault_Rifle_Ultralight_Materials - The second note sentence is missing a period at the end.
5. Weapon_Mods#Assault_Rifle_Thermal_Scope - The first note sentence is missing a period at the end.

Thanks for your help. -- GS877 (talk) 22:24, February 7, 2018 (UTC)

Temp, the page is now unlocked for me. I made the 5 changes above. -- GS877 (talk) 03:54, February 13, 2018 (UTC)

Weapon Mods Page / Piercing Mods Problems

Temp, I made a separate section for this next portion as it involves potentially bigger issues to the Weapon Mods page.

I wanted to ask you as you were actively working on this page/admin back when this page was created and know the history much better than I do.

______________

First Item

Incorrect Table Values - I found what I think are errors on multiple weapon mods tables dealing with piercing damage.

Weapon_Mods#Shotgun_Shredder_Mod - The Piercing Damage number for level V appears to be incorrect. In game says 40% (or 60% doing the math thing). The table says 65%. (Which would equate to 35% reduced damage.)

100% - (in game mod level)% reduced damage = Piercing Damage.

The number looks incorrect. Unless I'm looking at the math wrong. I looked at all the other piercing mods/High velocity (HV) mods and they all equate to the equation above. I saw on the talk page here how to calculate what the actual in game damage number is but the table number is not actual damage but the percentage used in that equation.

  • Side Note - I don't like how they set up the system in the past of trying to display in two words piercing damage. I understand they were trying have it make sense to someone reading that the damage a target receives after piercing cover is X. I like matching game text better. Neither here nor there though.

Weapon_Mods#Shotgun_High-Velocity_Barrel - Same problem as the Shredder Mod. Piercing damage for level V is listed as 60% (40% reduced damage) but the in game text says 70% (30% reduced damage).

Weapon_Mods#Sniper_Rifle_High-Velocity_Barrel - Piercing Thickness is wrong. Level V lists 1.35 m but in game calls out 1.10 m. The talk page even references the number as 1.10 m here for a calculation they are doing. It looks like someone copied (in error) the thickness levels from the Assault_Rifle_High-Velocity_Barrel to the Sniper rifle HV barrel.

My problem is that I only have the level V numbers for the above 3 mods in both single player and multiplayer. I would have to go back and play single player and verify each levels numbers for I - IV to make sure they are correct before I could even propose the correction numbers. Can you verify for me Temp that I'm reading the number correctly for the piercing damage and doing the math right?

___________________________

Second Item

I want to propose changing the order of the piercing / HV mods tables to match in game order. They list the table items out of order: C, then A, then B. Hard to follow when you read against in game text and most every other table I've seen lists things in the order they are in-game.

In game text for Level V AR Piercing Mod - "Allows bullets to pierce 1.10-meter thick objects (A), but at 40.00% reduced damage (B). Ignores 65.00% of defenses on armored targets (C)."

Current - C, A, B

Level I II III IV V
Defenses Ignored 25% 35% 45% 55% 65%
Piercing Thickness 0.50m 0.65m 0.80m 0.95m 1.10m
Piercing Damage 40% 45% 50% 55% 60%
ME3 Upgrade Assault Rifle Penetration Module

Proposed - A, B, C

Level I II III IV V
Piercing Thickness 0.50m 0.65m 0.80m 0.95m 1.10m
Piercing Damage 40% 45% 50% 55% 60%
Defenses Ignored 25% 35% 45% 55% 65%
ME3 Upgrade Assault Rifle Penetration Module

This would require changing the order of each piercing/HV mod but not changing the content of the tables. I can make all of the required changes but I would need access to complete the changes.

_______________________

Third Item

To match in game text, all of the numbers should be 2 place decimals (where they are shown like that). All of the tables have no decimals unless there is a .5 number. I can understand if the numbers with 2 places cause the tables to get too big but it doesn't look like that is an issue.

Level I II III IV V
Defenses Ignored 25.00% 35.00% 45.00% 55.00% 65.00%
Piercing Thickness 0.25 m 0.35 m 0.45 m 0.55 m 0.65 m
Piercing Damage 40.00% 45.00% 50.00% 55.00% 65.00%
ME3 Shotgun Shredder Module

I can correct all of the tables to use 2 place decimals but would need access to do this.

_______________

Fourth Item

Spacing after units on all of the tables. Meters seems to be the main culprit. Unless in game text shows that units are right next to a number (which would be a sic tag potentially), there should be a space between the number and the units. (I don't see anything in the MOS about this issue of units and spacing).

NIST defines for SI and units that there is to be a space after number and before the units (except as noted). (#15 on the link below)

(h ttps://physics.nist.gov/cuu/Units/checklist.html) (Extra space and () as I'm getting this silly extra verification problem and no summary warning. Constant loop will not let me publish. I wanted to no summary warning in my settings but with external links it doesn't work)

As it is a US government website, I used this as a reference on units and spacing. SI as most of the world uses this but even English units have a space after them.

I can correct all of the units to have a space but would need access to do this.

  • Side Note - Should the MOS have a section about spacing and units added to it? Mass_Effect_Wiki:Manual_of_Style/General#Grammar Potentially a subheading called "Units and Spacing" under grammar? That way if this ever comes up again it is clearly defined.

________________

Please let me know about the items above Temp and I'd be glad to help fixing them. If the numbers truly are incorrect for the tables as noted above, that will take longer to get the correct numbers for fixing those sections. I would propose fixing the other items first and then correcting the incorrect numbers. -- GS877 (talk) 23:43, February 7, 2018 (UTC)

Temp, I was able to get the correct numbers and fix items 1, 2, & 3 above. Should item number 4 be updated in the MOS or does that require a vote? -- GS877 (talk) 06:22, February 13, 2018 (UTC)

Search Help / Wikia Tools

Temp,

I'm going through the uncategorized images section a little bit at a time. I understand there is a (Special:) filter that shows the images that have no categories associated with them.

What I'm looking for is a method to find all of the images that have been given the Category:Fair_use_files only and no other categories. When you look at the category it shows 4000+ images (many of which have multiple categories listed for them along with images only using fair use).

If the uploader only chose fair use, then the photo won't be shown in the uncategorized folder.

[ [File:Hackett.png]] is an example. (I broke the link on purpose so it wouldn't associate with this page.)

That file could be correctly classified to several categories besides just fair use.

Without having to open every single one of the 4000+ fair use images to see how it is categorized, is there a special report or search tag that can find images / articles / categories associated with only one category?

I've looked online and gone through the descriptions of the tools and can't find what I'm looking for. I may have just missed an advanced function of a basic tool or just don't understand what the tools really are used for. I figured I would ask an experienced person this question.

Thanks for your help in advance (even if it turns out there is no such tool) -- GS877 (talk) 23:54, February 8, 2018 (UTC)

ME:A Melee Weapons Article

Temp, I saw you locked off the Melee Weapons page for ME:A. I mocked up all of the information for the page in my vault storage using the existing Assault Rifles & Pistols pages (ME:A sections) as an example.

User:GS877/Vault_Storage

I had to work on all of the ME:A pages for Melee Weapons first so that I would have all of the pages set up correctly (to link correctly).

I tired to keep it short, simple, and to the point like other high level weapons pages.

______________________

The text is ready to be copied and directly pasted into a new page called "Melee Weapons".

This will allow all links already on pages to activate and point to the new page.

Can you grab the text and create the new page (or unlock the page so that I can do so)?

Feel free to critique and change as you see fit.

Hey Temp, can you please remove the protection for the Melee Weapons page?
(It looks like on October 27, 2017 you put an indefinite lock on the page according to the logs but there is no reason for the block from what I can see at this time.) I stumbled upon the deleted page and it looks like someone kept creating a zero content page and you kept deleting it. You then stated "locking unless halfway decent mockup is presented" on October 30, 2017.
I'd like to create the page so I can move over the mocked up page from my vault area to that page. -- GS877 (talk) 19:37, February 18, 2018 (UTC)

Template:Rarity Problem / Requires Admin Access To Correct My Mistake

Temp, I created a template tonight to turn on a function in the Template: infobox armor (Andromeda) and Template: infobox weapons (Andromeda). After some fiddling I got Template:Rarity functioning correctly.

I created Template:Rarity but when I did this I didn't categorize it correctly (or perhaps created it incorrectly).

I tried to fix my mistake but I quickly realized I didn't know what I was doing and I can't delete / remove categories / templates / etc.

I just stopped. I didn't want to make the problem worse.

I haven't used any links here because I didn't want to link them on accident.

_____________________

1. I accidently created a category page called "Rarity" when I made the template. That category shouldn't exist and I am unable to go into the editor and remove Template:Rarity from that category page. I did something somehow and the rarity category page disappeared and the template is no longer showing up on it.

2. The Template: Rarity is not categorized correctly and is not showing in the Category:Templates (or the correct subcategory if it doesn't go there). Was able to get the category "Templates" added with text in the edit.

3. The Template Type is currently showing as "unknown" (with a little pencil symbol next to it). I tried to pick a type but I don't know what type to pick for this template.

Normally I look at what someone else has created and follow that but templates is something a level above and beyond.

Can you correct my mistake and let me know what I am supposed to chose if I decide to make a template again? (I don't anticipate having to make anymore of these templates)

I just want to make sure that the template is categorized correctly, that I haven't mucked up the template pages with stuff in the wrong places, and that someone in the future can find the template I created because it is located properly.

Sorry for messing this up. -- GS877 (talk) 09:52, February 18, 2018 (UTC)

Gibberish Edit / Scavenger Armor Page

Temp, I saw that the Scavenger_Armor page had been edited with a gibberish post today. I don't know if you saw this as I've been doing so much editing recently and the recent changes page has so much stuff on it.

I saw you had made fixes to other pages after the gibberish posting so I figured you hadn't see it.

Usually you do a block on this type of stuff (from the logs I saw awhile back).

I didn't see that you had reverted it and I left it alone so you could look at it first and do the admin functions you do for this type of vandalism.

If I find types of things, should I let you or another admin know?

Thanks, -- GS877 (talk) 08:25, February 24, 2018 (UTC)

Lower / Upper Case Eezo Links

Hey Temp, I was working on the element zero page tonight for an MEA table and there were a whole bunch of redirects when I did a special:Whatlinkshere search. "element zero" redirects to Element Zero, "eezo" redirects the same. I was trying to get that list down so I didn't have to look through 500 items. Some I'm not allowed to change per your instructions, no user pages (without permission), no forums, no locked off stuff but active articles and talk pages are fair game.

After about 25 fixes I said, "You know what, I don't want fix redirects anymore. This is getting really boring." There are like 100 links to fix. It's not really hurting anything other than having a bunch of extra items as redirect links on that list. As I can't fix them all anyways, I just said to myself, "Redirects are fine. I'm going back to working on tables." :) -- GS877 (talk) 06:22, March 3, 2018 (UTC)

Navboxes

Sorry Temp, I didn't see your reverts on Navboxes. I will stick to MEA only and consider all previous stuff as finished. I will only look at those navboxes in the past to see if there are errors (not formatting items). Errors could potentially be fixed but I would ask first.

The MEA stuff is still active and I was trying to make it match the others.

-- GS877 (talk) 19:26, March 3, 2018 (UTC)

  1. not all navboxes require collapsible toggles.
  2. the grey boxes were there for subtle differentiation between concepts and corresponding pages. do not deprecate on current and future navboxes. Would you be ok with adding the column/icons for applicable navboxes? No other changes to the format.

Some of the ME3 boxes use the '3' and some use the N7 box so they already don't match each other.

  • I would use the icons that are in use on the spoiler tags (they seem to be what is in use on other navboxes)
  • If I am unsure about the icon or it doesn't seem like it fits the navbox, I would opt to leave it alone. (Some may not have icons and in that case they would stay the way they are.)

I think it looks more professional and gives the wiki that little bit extra panache.

Asking ahead of time this time. :) -- GS877 (talk) 20:39, March 3, 2018 (UTC)

Hey DeldiRe, I found the same videos SUPER annoying. I did some researching and from what I understand, the high traffic volume pages automatically get videos attached to them. (ME3 multiplayer has the same thing.) It's from wikia on high and it's part of the deal with the devil. You want to use their software/formatting/website, you have to have the videos on the high traffic pages. You can stop them from autoplaying in the settings of your user menu for a few weeks but you are unable to make them go away permanently.
That was what I found after some internet research so I just let the matter drop and got used to clicking the x to stop the popup video screen when I scrolled down the page.

Upload Problem / Ripping Off Someone Else's Work

Hey Temp, The following user is uploading images from someone else's site.

User:Necrontir

Blatant ripoffs of someone else's work. (Direct lifts from other wikis and other sites) I was going to add the photos over time but it takes a long time to get the pics complete. There were other things to add. Now I'm having to go back and fix the pics that this person has added with original content. I'll fix them all but it's going to take me a few days.

Can you lock that person from adding new stuff? I'm sure that is against MOS and wiki policy. I currently have 20 pics to do and this person is continuing to add. Assault rifles and then sniper rifles.

Thanks. -- GS877 (talk) 19:11, March 30, 2018 (UTC)

Files are replaced Temp. Pistols, sniper rifles, and assault rifles are complete. I'll finish shotguns tomorrow. Shotguns weren't added but as long as I'm at it, I might as well add those as well. Man, I hate cropping pics.-- GS877 (talk) 03:44, March 31, 2018 (UTC)
TEMP, STOP HIM. Lifting from other sites is a bannable offense. Just put a stop or hold or whatever for a couple of weeks. I now have to fix even more work. 10+ shotgun images and now some melee images. Those aren't his images. They are coming from fextralife, gameopedia, samurai-games, etc. There are artifacts from bad cropping that match exactly what is shown on those sites.
He's going to go for the armor next and that's just way too much work for me to do for cropping. DeldiRe is working on getting the pictures. --GS877 (talk) 16:59, March 31, 2018 (UTC)
Wrong guess. These were from one place - Andromeda wiki. Most of them, others - my own, do not doubt that. Sorry I put so much pressure on you, but you handled it and finished the articles. Plus created a few new. No bad intentions. We are all galaxy's good guys here.
By the way, I wasn't planning doing so for armor articles. --Necrontir (talk) 17:57, March 31, 2018 (UTC)
If you can upload images, I will take care of the infobox. --DeldiRe (talk) 18:14, March 31, 2018 (UTC)
It seems not everybody is happy with me taking your place. Though I can provide some additional support if need be.--Necrontir (talk) 19:09, March 31, 2018 (UTC)
Anyone can upload and edit the wiki per MOS. I'm all for anyone editing as long as the images are high quality and meet MOS requirements. Uploading the armor pics is a big job. There are 3 copies of each piece, 4 pieces per set, and 11 sets. Excluding single level sets and 2 piece sets, there are still a huge number of pics to add. I want to work on other things right now other than pics. So if someone else wants to add content, I'm all for it.--GS877 (talk) 19:26, March 31, 2018 (UTC)
That said, I still got 1 more render left. I didn't uploaded it since there is no article, no info about it and there won't be, I guess. Still it is ingame pice of work, though not usable. But I believe worth mentioning. If it could be usefull, I'll upload it. --Necrontir (talk) 19:56, March 31, 2018 (UTC)
What is the picture and should an article be made about it? If it's in game material, then someone somewhere created the item at Bioware. You can always add the pic and keep it as one of your 10 user images and when you get around to creating the article you can add the pic to it. (Each user is allowed 10 personal pics categorized as "User Images" that won't be deleted for not being used on the wiki)

SIDE NOTE: I'll move this response and any future reponses to your talk page. Otherwise Temp will throw down and throw us out of his establishment. "Closing time, get out. Go talk on your own talk pages. I'm not the local watering hole. Now GIT!"

history lesson, folks.
trilogy game assets are datamined DIRECTLY from the game files whenever possible then processed into a more familiar lossless format. anyone with time on their hands can do it and for all intents and purposes squabbling over screengrabs is greatly mitigated (actually made irrelevant) because of the common baselines.
from what i can see on MEA weapons and armor however it seems bioware went with realtime rendering this time. i could be wrong since i haven't dived into the MEA files yet, but going by this means at the end of the day whoever puts up higher-res screencaps on the highest visual quality settings gets to set the bar.
HOWEVER, lifting from other sites and passing it off as your own is still considered shitmongering. editing said files even worse - exacerbating the problem. self-taken screengrabs are preferred; if you can't then ask permission from whoever you're cribbing from and note as such on the files. the latter scenario is still expected to be supplanted by the former when opportunity permits - and they will be. Circular References / Editing MEA

Hey Temp, I know you've mentioned several times about not circularly referencing for MEA. I wanted to explain what is happening while I am editing pages.

By now, you know I am super detailed oriented. I go through and review all kinds of stuff that no one even looks at or knows about. With that said, MEA is just a hot mess. I know "THOU SHALL NOT DISPARAGE THE HIGH AND MIGHTY CREATORS" is rule one. :) With that said, they were just sloppy as hell with MEA. The first three games in the original trilogy (OT) were awesome. Logical, the designers followed patterns, they checked their work, and everything made sense. A few small things here or there but super detailed.

MEA is not that. 3/4 of something was done well like prior games and the other 1/4 isn't. The missions cross link each other, there is so much detail and then there is nothing. A location on a planet in any of the OT would have a codex with info (even the secondary ones did). MEA just doesn't have it. There are 4 outposts in this game, 3 have detailed names and places and the 4th is this merge of a krogan one and an initiative one. Kind of one but not. You have to dig deep to find this stuff. It's not inferring but boils down to a single text line in a codex entry.

It's awful.

All I can do is go through each mission methodically and add information. The menu system has missions in multiple places, and as such, it is hard to know where places are until you go through every minute detail. Some planets have explicit locations. Paradise Sands, or Varren's Scalp. 5 planets have detailed locations. Voeld, has no regional locations. (Again, 5/6ths detailed, 1/6 not).

You have to go through everything, put in all of the links and locations, and then sort out what goes where using the whatlinkshere tool. It's a lot of work. The detailed stuff is great, it's that not detailed stuff that requires a WHOLE bunch of extra work.

Rest assured that I'm going through everything trying to make sure the framework is correct and getting all of the details in place.

If something looks like a circular reference at the moment, I will be going back to make sure if it needs to be there. Kadara Badlands was an example. Not needed.

Just know that there is a huge amount of work to complete and I'm diligently working on it. --GS877 (talk) 19:51, April 5, 2018 (UTC)

Side Note - The reason I create a redirect to a planet page with the location pages is to remove the redlink. 2-10 missions use that planet location. A few days ago a new user came on and created 2 or 3 locations pages from redlinks with almost zero content on them and I had to go back with DeldiRe's help and fill in the page. I wasn't looking to spend time fleshing out full location pages yet. Users who see redlinks want to create the content to make the redlink go away. (I'm the same way in fact.) Putting that redirect makes the link go blue and I don't have to do a mad rush to fix a near zero content page. The table location the redirect is pointing to a has a small description of the planet locations and the associated missions for each location, so it isn't a wasted redirect link pointing to the table. I can then go back a later date and do all of the detailed location pages from the planet page one at a time with the links correctly placed in the mission pages. --GS877 (talk) 20:35, April 5, 2018 (UTC)

Mass Effect Wiki 101 - My apologies

Hello Temporaryeditor78,

Please forgive me for not reading your Manual of Style. I thought that the infobox that I added to the Mass Effect 1 page and that I planned to add on the other pages could have improved the articles specific to each of them.

Your colleague GS877 told me that it was possible to propose ideas from the Manual of Style, but I did not see any section to make suggestions to improve the articles of your Wikia, and I asked him that it is the way to make proposals.

I hope I could come up with this infobox idea. Otherwise, it does not matter.

In any case, please forgive me for this inconvenience with my infobox. I do not wish to harm your Wikia and I will not make the same mistake again.

Wishing you good reception of this message, I thank you for your understanding and forgive me again for my mistake.

Sincerely,

project forums are that way.
sandboxing pages can be done on your userspace. if you have no idea what these terms are better familiarize yourself with Fandom's help pages. there's really a lot to learn first before wading in and even then that isn't a guarantee your pet projects will be approved.
it still has to make sense, can be feasibly applied on its stated scope, has well-defined limitations, not shoddily made, has a net benefit to the wiki, etc T̴̴͕̲̞̳̖̼̱͒͛̎͒ͫ̃ͧeͩ̈̽̈҉͓̝̰̼̦̫̤̀͠m̫̪̪̯̻͎̫̅̇̓̇͌̚p̸̙̝̓̓͌ͨ͆ͣͥ̂̕o͒̽͐̽͏̞̬̻͕͔͕͚̰͍͠͞ṙ̢̞͚͈̹̰ͨ̓ͭ̈́̌ạ̢̧̪̹̺̺̣̹̲͂͆̏ͪͨ͒ͭř̹͈͜͠y̷͍̻̜̹̼̾̽̈́e̵̹̼̟̦͚͐̈́͌͘d͉̲̣̻͉̱͗̅ḭ̷̻̆͋̆̓̔͝t̨͍̦̫̗͂̅̍̋̆ͩ͝ộ̫̟̬̳̝̲̾ͫ̒̿ͮ̑̚rͯ̎ͨͭ̄̿̽͛҉̠̫̱̠̘̘̲́ͅ7̩̻ͤͩͨ͝͡8̜̣̙͇̻ͨ͛͛̆͒̆̽̒͐͜͡ ͥ̍̉̃̇ͥ̓ͨ͏̕҉̥̹͓̗̤̠̖̤ (talk) 22:26, April 5, 2018 (UTC)

Priority: Tuchanka Revert

On Priority: Tuchanka, the wiki states that there are assets found in Tuchanka: Turian Platoon and Tuchanka: Bomb that are no longer available after Priority: Citadel II. This is false. There is nothing in either of those missions that cannot be obtained and/or completed after Priority: Citadel II. The three missions that have assets that cannot be obtained/used after Priority: Tuchanka are: N7: Cerberus Attack (Improved Power Grid), N7: Cerberus Abductions (Benning: Evidence), and N7: Cerberus Lab (Alien Medi-Gel Formula). Both Platoon and Bomb can easily be completed after Priority: Tuchanka with no negative repercussions.

Technical Question / Help Request

Hey Temp, I need your expertise on a wiki related question.

I just got done moving all of the info from the MEA morality page to the dialog page. Two pages with the same info. MEA doesn't use morality anymore and the page was created before the game even came out. Someone else created the correct one. I didn't know about the other one until I went searching for interrupt. Annoying to say the least.

That got me thinking. I wanted to see all new pages created. If I look at the list from say January of 2017 moving forward, I can see everything that was potentially created for MEA. I don't want to assume that a page was created and categorized correctly.

I went to Special:New Pages but it only goes back 500 entries. (February of 2018). I tried multiple ways to make it give me more than 500 but each way just keeps giving back 500 at the most.

I searched online for an answer before asking you this but all I get is "How do I search for all pages created by a user?" or "how do I create a page on wiki?". That's not my question stupid google. I want ALL pages created by everyone on a wiki. After looking at page after page of the same useless answers, I figured I would ask you.

Looking at Special:ListFiles allows me to go back years and see all images ever added (This is how I looked at all images to see which ones needed which categories). You can also use Special:Images to see all pics.

What I want to do is see if there are other pages that got created around the time before MEA came out that are duplicated or need expanding. With a full list of every new page from that point on, I can go through each item to look at them. If pages need categories, expanding, deleting, etc, I can review them. I don't trust that each page was correctly given the MEA category when created. I may find nothing or may find a bunch of work.

Am I clicking on the wrong link to search for all new pages (using the wrong special tool) or is this feature something a normal user can't perform?

Thanks for your help Temp. -- GS877 (talk) 22:03, April 6, 2018 (UTC)

the newpages list is apparently purged every now and then depending on wiki activity. can't do anything about it. if you want to search for potential duplicates or expansion targets you may have to do it the tiresome way by keyword searching and verifying.
from what i can recall there's only a handful of users who created MEA-specific pages in the months up to and after the game's release. you can either stalk their contributions individually or consult everything categorized under mass effect: andromeda itself (people were usually competent enough to file related things here at least), both of which requires no small effort however. T̴̴͕̲̞̳̖̼̱͒͛̎͒ͫ̃ͧeͩ̈̽̈҉͓̝̰̼̦̫̤̀͠m̫̪̪̯̻͎̫̅̇̓̇͌̚p̸̙̝̓̓͌ͨ͆ͣͥ̂̕o͒̽͐̽͏̞̬̻͕͔͕͚̰͍͠͞ṙ̢̞͚͈̹̰ͨ̓ͭ̈́̌ạ̢̧̪̹̺̺̣̹̲͂͆̏ͪͨ͒ͭř̹͈͜͠y̷͍̻̜̹̼̾̽̈́e̵̹̼̟̦͚͐̈́͌͘d͉̲̣̻͉̱͗̅ḭ̷̻̆͋̆̓̔͝t̨͍̦̫̗͂̅̍̋̆ͩ͝ộ̫̟̬̳̝̲̾ͫ̒̿ͮ̑̚rͯ̎ͨͭ̄̿̽͛҉̠̫̱̠̘̘̲́ͅ7̩̻ͤͩͨ͝͡8̜̣̙͇̻ͨ͛͛̆͒̆̽̒͐͜͡ ͥ̍̉̃̇ͥ̓ͨ͏̕҉̥̹͓̗̤̠̖̤ (talk) 22:35, April 8, 2018 (UTC)
I was afraid that something like that was the case. A few days ago I went back to the main log and just said "Show me the last 500" and started clicking "earlier 500". After about 40 clicks I got back to the timeframe. I started going forwards from then and got to about april 21, 2017. It was just page after page of file adds and the like. Some planet creation pages, etc. There are just so many entries to go through that I just decided to give up on it for awhile. I figured it would be better to finish off the missions and then I could go back and do 500 at a time looking for issues.
I find that if I go back to the raw data, then I know for sure I'm looking at everything. After 2 or 3 times of finding something not done right by someone(s) else, I just don't trust the info as much. That's on me though. 99% is right, it's that 1% that gets me. With that said, if I go back to raw data then I have to wrestle with that beast.
Thanks for letting me know about the list purge. It's good to have an answer on that. It's odd how some tools were designed for everything and some are just a snapshot. "Naw, nobody is every gonna want to look at every page ever created. Make it 500. I'm phoning it in today." :) -- GS877 (talk) 17:01, April 9, 2018 (UTC)

Is it wrong?

Given that I have made several edits and you intent on reverting them, might I ask why? I have read the manual and understand the rules, but I feel as though I were offering genuine information that could be used to update and flesh out the pages in question. If I am mistaken and or had forgotten something, at least offer the kindness of explaining to me why.

A simple example on Warden Kuril's page, I adjusted "two-bit slaver" to read "two-bit slave trader," because it is actually what Shepard calls him in-game. I also thought it reasonable to add to the tactics if the strategy in-question was effective.

On the Asari page, I mentioned the different appearance of the scalp crests of certain asari. Not because it was speculation, but because it is provable to be true. Seeing it referenced nowhere else, I felt it should be at least be mentioned.

I do not begrudge you for reverting my edits, but an explanation for why would be appreciated.--PoisonShallEvanesce (talk) 23:46, April 8, 2018 (UTC) PSE

i don't care about the correct edits, i don't tolerate -wrong- edits. look up how reverting works if you want to bitch on figuratively throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
link aliasing is Reapers, not Reapers. and it's obvious you haven't read the rules because if you did you'd know armor and armour are both accepted spellings here.
the scalp crests can't be considered as fact. aethyta got different models in ME2/ME3, vasir has been depicted in comics that doesn't conclusively show she does have shorter crests than the average, sha'ira's is altogether your opinion only.
tl;dr yes completely wrong on so many levels. Your attitude is quite unnecessary. You should also know that I have a mere 10 edits on this wiki, so I am not incredibly active on this wiki nor do I have its rules memorized by heart. I DID read them, though I confess, not thoroughly. On other wikis that I edit, the rules are much less strict than they are here. Thus, I thought little of it when I was casually editing what my computer's spellchecker saw as grammatical errors. So I do apologize for that.

That said, I understand the basic rules of editing wikis in general. Speculation should largely be kept to a minimum and kept to discussion pages. When I look back at what I mentioned about Sha'ira's crests, I realize that was more speculation on my part. That was a mistake, I will own that. --PoisonShallEvanesce (talk) 01:11, April 9, 2018 (UTC) PSE

Admin Help Request / Protected Pages Correction

Hey Temp, I was reviewing redlinks with whatlinkshere and I have 4 pages that I am unable to correct a spelling error.

Roekaar (with two a's) is the correct spelling of the splinter group of angarans.

However, there are 4 pages that use an incorrect spelling that has two r's Roekarr. This has created 4 redlinks I am unable to fix.

3 of those pages are heavily protected with admin protection and 1 is a user sandbox page.

I've listed the pages below minus the links so there isn't a cross link to this talk page.

  • Mass Effect Wiki
  • Portal:Component/Mass Effect: Andromeda
  • Template:Mass Effect Portal
  • User:JustLeafy/Sandbox

Can you correct the spelling mistake on the 3 protected pages and as an admin make a redlink maintenance correction to a user sandbox page?

Thanks for your help. I know I'm not allowed to make a change to a user sandbox without permission or I would have done this already. The other 3 are main pages that are clearly locked off so that they aren't mucked around with. --GS877 (talk) 18:05, April 14, 2018 (UTC)

Hey Temp, Thank you for fixing that for me. :) --GS877 (talk) 17:51, April 17, 2018 (UTC)

Advice on ME3 Discounts

Hey Temp, IRMacGuyver brought up a good point on the Talk: Sirta Supplies page. I explained that discounts and how to obtain them weren't put on each page but in one central location. That got me thinking though.

Someone coming to the site might not know that the info on discounts is listed on the merchants guide. Or how to find that info easily.

I don't think that the detailed info should be on each page but I thought maybe a note or other type of small phrase pointing to the ME3 merchants guide section (which points to the intel terminal page) for info on discounts.

BEFORE, I would add this to all of the ME3 pages, I mocked up just one on the Sirta Supplies page.

What do you think about this? I'm trying to think like someone who is coming here for info and to me it seems hard to find without something small pointing them to the right direction.

I'm ok with you changing it, making it something else, etc.

If you think it should be left alone, I'll pull the edit.

Thanks for your help and opinion. -- GS877 (talk) 01:41, April 15, 2018 (UTC)

Change was reverted by Temporaryeditor78 on April 15, 2018 --GS877 (talk) 19:58, April 15, 2018 (UTC)

Befuddled

What is wrong with my innocuous note highlighting the indeed notable fact that Titan and Mercenary in ME1 are measurably the best, co-existing with H.K. in quality - ?

There is no subjectivity here - and the fact is notable, esp. for new journeyers in the Mass Effect realm.

What is the issue, dear fellow? Or are you just reverting for the sake of ego or a petty dislike of my verbiage? Some other stylist editorial authority then re-express the scientifically verifiable data I briefly added...

MediaWikia:Wiki-navigation Page / Drop Down Menu Question / MEA

Hey Temp, I have a question about the drop down menus at the top of the wiki concerning MEA. (This is handled on the MediaWiki:Wiki-navigation page).

My question for you is this, to add these items to the dropdown menu, is a project page and vote required? --GS877 (talk) 20:18, April 19, 2018 (UTC)
From an edit to the MediaWikia:Wiki-nivigation page by Elseweyr on 5/6/2018, this appears to not be the case. No project should be needed. An admin can edit the top wiki navigation. (Morality guide for ME was updated).

I've included several proposals below with the exact text from the wiki-navigation page.

Can the wiki-navigation page be updated with either Proposal III or IV?

I would provide the clean text from either proposal you think is best minus the color and strikethrough so that it would be a direct copy and paste. There is no need for you to do any work other than copying and pasting to the wiki-navigation page. If you let me know which one works, I will put that version below the proposals as the ACCEPTED VERSION. (If you want a version V let me know and I'll put that below as well. Fell free to mark up and I'll make a clean version V below so you don't have to do a bunch of work). --GS877 (talk) 20:53, May 7, 2018 (UTC)

PROPOSAL V - Per feedback from Admin Elseweyr User_talk:Elseweyr#Admin_Questions on June 3, 2018, matching prior Romance location and remove Inventory section. Resources is useful information. Combine Skills and Profiles as they are linked together. Skills is used more often that the profiles. This pares the list down to 9 items. Split Skills and profiles to fill to 10 items. 6/4/2018. TemporaryEditor78 pointed out that the order for the media section should not be alphabetical but instead should be novels-comics-soundtrack-films to match the other media section. Put section back to the original way it was before the change was made. 6/7/2018 (Changes from Proposal III in Yellow)

Delete Tag

Hey Temp,

I noticed the other day that when the delete tag is used, there is a built in function that automatically creates a link to the talk page. The text of the delete tag (paraphrased) says discuss on the talk page and wait for voting.

Unbeknownst to myself, I've created 100 redlinks on the special:wantedpages list just by using the delete tag. If a page is then deleted, and there is no actual talk page, that redlink stays stuck on that list. There are a bunch of prior links on that page with the problem.

I wanted to make sure that I followed the rules of the tag and I don't want to create a buttload of redlinks.

I'll try to do 10 or so a day on that list. I won't clog up the history list. I just hate seeing all of those redlinks. It was in fact my actions that created those links, so I will fix that issue.

By copying the text over to the newly created page, the redlink will disappear and the problem will be gone (even after deleting of the page and talk page).

HOWEVER, if you are able to fix the delete tag so that it no longer automatically creates a link to the talk page in the future, I'd make sure to not create the page any time I delete something. Otherwise, I'll make sure to not create that extra redlink.

I was going to send you a note but you beat me to it. I agree on not doing stupid things for no reason. If I had been creating the talk pages as I deleted items (removing the autoredlink), I would have to fix 100 of them now. --GS877 (talk) 23:51, April 23, 2018 (UTC)

non-issue by design. if you feel it needs deleting, just tag them for future reference. simple as that.
at the moment i'm just more selective at what to purge and keep but make no mistake i do not plan on leaving the trash bin pile up indefinitely. it will be attended to, just not (by me) in any reasonable definition of "soon". Thanks for the clarification Temp. I didn't want to be the one creating a bunch of redlinks stuck forever without a bunch of admin work to fix after the fact. If I made the problem, I wanted to fix the problem. I don't want to make work for others. That was why I was creating those pages. Now that I know, I'll refrain from doing a wholesale fix.
I know you're always watching and you delete items as needed. The other delete items I've tagged are just refuse that collected over the years so there isn't a big need to empty the bin. Items that someone keeps trying to create incorrectly or could create future problems, I know you take care of those right away.
Thanks for letting me know about the delete tag. --GS877 (talk) 00:28, April 24, 2018 (UTC)

Super Walkthrough Page

Hey Temp,

I need your help with something on the Mass Effect: Andromeda Super Walkthrough page. I've now spent over an hour trying to figure out the who, what, and where of this page. I want to make an edit but there is no edit button. I thought this was maybe like the Main page using portal pages but that isn't it. I can't even click on the page to find a history of the people who created it to go back and search their work.

I checked the MediaWiki:Wiki-navigation but that isn't it either.

I've hunted online, looked through a bunch of the pages, done searches, and I can't figure this one out.

Every back way I can think of to try and find it just leads back to the main Mass Effect: Andromeda Super Walkthrough page.

Ultimately, I want to fix two File links on the page to point to the correct page (remove redlinks) but I can't find the source to even see what they created. If it's admin locked, I can't even request you fix it because I can't say what to fix.

Can you help point me to the edit button or let me know if this is specially locked in some fashion and I'm unable to edit?

Thanks for your help.--GS877 (talk) 19:37, April 27, 2018 (UTC)

Hey Temp, I know this is like super childs play for you, but I found out that adding ?action=edit WORKS! Yes, I know, sooooper noob thing to know. I was looking at a page with an edit button and clicked to see what got added to the link for the page and found that.
I was able to fix the two small pic links I was concerned about and an extra ] ] on the end of a file.
HOWEVER, from what I can see (and have researched so far), the page is constructed in a fashion unlike any I have seen so far. It sort of resembles the main page but is more complex. The authors "built" their own page format. The format that was created is causing the top section with the page name, the edit button, the language button, and the Share button to not show up. The NOEDITBUTTON is not on the page so that isn't the issue. A number of the videos on the page are no longer correctly there anymore either.
Do you have any concern with me reaching out to User:Raylan13 to fix the videos and potentially the top of the page? I don't want to step on any toes and I'm supposed to ask you (an active admin) before asking the Community Development Team person for help. Raylan13 fixed the broken videos on the main page in Feb 2018, so I figured he/she could fix the 4 broken video links and potentially the top of the page issue as well. The content for the page is fine, just the format doesn't match the other pages and the top portion isn't available for a user to interact with. If there is a better person out there that could take care of this (or even yourself), please let me know.
This is so far out of my wheelhouse. I understand on a basic level what is happening but have no idea how to fix the coding to correct this. There may be a fundamental design issue from the start that is wrong. I just don't know enough to know what I don't know. THAT is exactly when you ask for help. :)
Thanks in advance. --GS877 (talk) 21:05, April 28, 2018 (UTC)

Redlinks 2

Hey Temp,

We talked before about no changes to redlinks in certain areas unless you are an admin or have permission from the author.

I did some additional work on redlinks today. I went through the whole list and have identified some links that can be easily corrected with tiny changes but don't affect the history or what the author "intended".

  • These changes are misspellings, not linked to the right place, etc.
  • I looked at each one to see if they had a deleted page. Each of these were off limits because "fixing" the link removes the ability to look back into history.
  • Some items might have been corrected but they required interpretation. Without the original author to confirm intent, I just left them alone.

I'd like your permission as an admin to make the corrections to the pages listed below. I don't expect you to have to make these changes. I'm asking so that this doesn't create extra work for you as an admin.

  • I've included a link to the page in question, below that what the redlink was on the left, and what the link should be on the right.
  • I would propose adding a small snippet of text to the section "Link corrected with admin permission (link to this talk page section) signature".
    • If the fix is in the middle of a sandbox article, I would put this on the talk page instead.
    • The note should go as close to the fix as possible if it is located on a talk page or other non-article style page.

Why this revert in the Assignments index?

You have reverted [an edit] adding Noveria: Lorik Qui'in to the list of Noveria assignments in ME1. Why?

Mass Effect: Andromeda Original Score Page

Hey Temp,

I know, I read the warning at the top of the page. Don't come complaining if you don't know what you did. I honestly don't know what I did for a revert.

I'm curious why you reverted the Mass Effect: Andromeda Original Score page edits I made.

The table on that page is horrible. I've seen the wikitable table format I used on multiple pages. Models (Mass Effect: Andromeda), Resources, Ryder Family Secrets. The only drawback with the using "wikitable" format is that you are locked into left justification. If you want something other than that justification inside the table, you have start over and build the table piece by piece. You can't override left justification on wikitable. I know, I tried multiple times over the past few months. Any time I want a table other than the wikitable, I have to use one already in use on the site that isn't like the wikitable so I have a good foundation.

There are several tables that look great across all of the ME games. I like the Skills page tables. The Powers (mass effect 3) are good as well.

I like a clean, clear, formatted well to the page table.

When I saw the MEA Original Score page, it just looks bad. Stretched way out, missing the borders, extra text to justify lines (lines autodefault so some aren't needed).

Just wanted to know what it was that made you revert the table format I put in place. I also made changes to point to the correct links (which already had some links in place).

Not a big deal, just curious. Each time I get reverted, I use that as a rule going forward.

Thanks, --GS877 (talk) 02:43, April 30, 2018 (UTC)

subjective opinion, no real reason to change formatting other than personal preference. the table is actually meant to look like it does and it isn't meant to be sortable like you did. T̴̴͕̲̞̳̖̼̱͒͛̎͒ͫ̃ͧeͩ̈̽̈҉͓̝̰̼̦̫̤̀͠m̫̪̪̯̻͎̫̅̇̓̇͌̚p̸̙̝̓̓͌ͨ͆ͣͥ̂̕o͒̽͐̽͏̞̬̻͕͔͕͚̰͍͠͞ṙ̢̞͚͈̹̰ͨ̓ͭ̈́̌ạ̢̧̪̹̺̺̣̹̲͂͆̏ͪͨ͒ͭř̹͈͜͠y̷͍̻̜̹̼̾̽̈́e̵̹̼̟̦͚͐̈́͌͘d͉̲̣̻͉̱͗̅ḭ̷̻̆͋̆̓̔͝t̨͍̦̫̗͂̅̍̋̆ͩ͝ộ̫̟̬̳̝̲̾ͫ̒̿ͮ̑̚rͯ̎ͨͭ̄̿̽͛҉̠̫̱̠̘̘̲́ͅ7̩̻ͤͩͨ͝͡8̜̣̙͇̻ͨ͛͛̆͒̆̽̒͐͜͡ ͥ̍̉̃̇ͥ̓ͨ͏̕҉̥̹͓̗̤̠̖̤ (talk) 09:07, May 7, 2018 (UTC)

N7 Armor Page

Hey Temp,

I saw you rolled back an edit on the N7 page for ME2. I was in the middle of ME3 and then saw your edit after posting. Otherwise I would have stopped to ask for your advice.

If there are two tables on this wikia, both have the almost the exact information but uses a different format (or coding) but otherwise almost identical, what is the policy on that?

Should they both match or should they be different?

There is an issue with the N7 page in that they used the green color outside the pipe which causes the bottom line of the column to go green. Span style inside could fix this. Also, the acquisition column is missing.

I am of the opinion that both tables should match. The armor customization page is simpler and cleaner in design (simpler in code as well) doesn't have the green line problem, and has the acquisition column.

- - - - - - - - - -

Second issue, half of the ME3 columns on the Armor Customization (Mass Effect 3) in green say "Increase" in a stat. The other have say "Increases" with an S. In game says "Health +10%" or "Weapon Damage +10%" which means none of the text on the tables match in game.

Before I try to fix increase or increases or even change to match in game text (which I would not do without asking first as this is well established tables), which is correct?

- - - - - - - - - -

I found these items because I'm going to be adding the MEA pics soon. I meant no disrespect to prior editors. I understand exactly what they were doing with their tables. If the information on the N7 page was completely different or was displaying something else in a unique way, then I would see no issue with two formats for tables. Instead this is the exact same information. We strive for consistency on the wikia and to match in game. I saw what looks wrong and went to correct it. --GS877 (talk) 18:17, May 6, 2018 (UTC)

mea culpa for late replies, extended crunch time at work. go figure. now, the color spilling problem is only visible to firefox people since as far as i can tell the other browsers have other ideas on formatting. nevertheless i agree that the code was bloated so now you see the cutdown version preserving almost everything. i *know* i've dealt with a similar problem on the wiki before, can't remember where off the cuff though.
there's no point in adding an acquisition column since they're default in the OT although of course things are different in andromeda so feel free to differ.T̴̴͕̲̞̳̖̼̱͒͛̎͒ͫ̃ͧeͩ̈̽̈҉͓̝̰̼̦̫̤̀͠m̫̪̪̯̻͎̫̅̇̓̇͌̚p̸̙̝̓̓͌ͨ͆ͣͥ̂̕o͒̽͐̽͏̞̬̻͕͔͕͚̰͍͠͞ṙ̢̞͚͈̹̰ͨ̓ͭ̈́̌ạ̢̧̪̹̺̺̣̹̲͂͆̏ͪͨ͒ͭř̹͈͜͠y̷͍̻̜̹̼̾̽̈́e̵̹̼̟̦͚͐̈́͌͘d͉̲̣̻͉̱͗̅ḭ̷̻̆͋̆̓̔͝t̨͍̦̫̗͂̅̍̋̆ͩ͝ộ̫̟̬̳̝̲̾ͫ̒̿ͮ̑̚rͯ̎ͨͭ̄̿̽͛҉̠̫̱̠̘̘̲́ͅ7̩̻ͤͩͨ͝͡8̜̣̙͇̻ͨ͛͛̆͒̆̽̒͐͜͡ ͥ̍̉̃̇ͥ̓ͨ͏̕҉̥̹͓̗̤̠̖̤ (talk) 09:07, May 7, 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for the update Temp. :) I'm using IE11 (or Chrome) so that platform had the issue as well. It wasn't the end of the world, just one of those annoying things that when you see it you say "Well, that should be fixed at some point." Usually when I say that, I end up finding a bigger issue lying in wait.
I certainly don't want to create extra work for you. It takes a good amount of time to fix something like that. I didn't know which format should be used otherwise I would have fixed them. There are lots of ways to create the same thing, some more elegant than others but sometimes using the old school ways work best.
Now that I know the history behind why that format is used, I will use that one going forward in the future.
In the future, if you are able to point to an example or fix part of the issue, I'd be glad to fix the rest using your example as a template.
As for MEA, I put a quick note on the Initiative Armor page and MEA armor page which should be ok. The rest of the armor can be found, bought, or crafted in so many ways that an acquisition column doesn't make much sense on the pages or the tables. They threw out the book with MEA and made everything so customizable that the starting armor piece you get will quickly be gotten rid of and replaced with a billion other choices.
Thanks again for your help. --GS877 (talk) 18:02, May 7, 2018 (UTC)

MEA Armor Set Pics

Hey Temp,

I have some images of the MEA armor sets individually created but they aren't being used yet. It's easier to create them when I make the group set and upload at the same time. I may or may not use them. I have the group pic (when a set has multiple images) but I don't know yet the exact way I want the group pics to look on a page. It may be better to have 3 pics next to each other. I figured I would finish the armor pics for all sets and then figure the best format. I may put a big comparison set on the overall armor page (just don't know yet). Have to let it percolate in my brain. Art vs. Science. There may be about a dozen individual set images give or take. If I don't use them, I'll delete tag them. Just wanted to let you know. I'm trying for an armor set a day, so I have 7 sets left (about a week). Some have 12 images per set, some have less. Depends on how ambitious a day is. I got two sets today but that took most of the day.

Thanks. --GS877 (talk) 04:48, May 8, 2018 (UTC)

Hey Temp,
I'm all done with the MEA armor pics. I went with the separate pics instead of the grouped pics (easier to format writing beneath the pics). I tagged the group pics for delete as they are no longer needed. All of the remaining pics are in use on pages. --GS877 (talk) 22:19, May 13, 2018 (UTC)

Possible Spam Profile / Bot Maybe?

Hey Temp,

User:Lomek455 posted a pic and a forum question today with a brand new profile. (Not making links in case you delete this stuff away and don't want redlinks) Nonsense pic name but when I went to send a message to the person to tell them that this is a user image and to code them like that moving forward I got curious and I hovered on the links on the profile and they point to nothing. Looks like spam or a bot of some kind. Not found on twitter and looks fake. The forum question is barely a question. I delete tagged the pic but can do nothing about the profile or forum question.

Should this pic, profile, and forum question be removed?

Sidenote: As you are an admin and can make these kind of decisions (but I don't want to monopolize your time) should things like this be sent to you and the Volunteer Spam Task Force at the same time?

Thanks in advance. --GS877 (talk) 19:18, May 12, 2018 (UTC)

here's what you need to do:
don't fuck around with other users' business.
user activities are their own as long as made in the proper venues. someone uploads over 10 article-irrelevant images, i step in. someone advertises penis enhancements (or nikes or whatever) on their userspace (or actually makes an article), i step in.
answer the guy's quesition, ignore the guy's question, entirely your prerogative.

Gotcha. Wasn't sure, wanted to ask.
Your comment about the "enhancements" made me think about the comedian Robert Schimmel. He had a joke about Mr. Big Cream. Paraphrasing the joke, "Rub it on and it gets bigger. Consumables Page

Hey Temp,

Not arguing. I promise. :) Just trying to understand your point about the Consumables page. Sometimes I miss the easiest stuff looking for the complex.

Instead of copying the text from the codex and pasting verbatim, do you mean using something like on the Inventory#Inventory_Categories page? (A section with using the main template) Or do you have another page that would be an example that I could use to learn from?

The reason I ask is that I know for a fact that all of the main planet pages use a codex section with the text verbatim on them (like Eos, Elaaden, etc) and other pages use the exact text but may not have a Codex subheader section with the text.

If it was already in use on a number of pages (and made sense), I kept using that style of format. Doesn't mean that it is correct, it may have been created incorrectly at the time and others went with it, and I just continued the errors.

I swear I'm not a child going "BUT WHY????". :)

Thanks for helping me learn. --GS877 (talk) 18:14, May 13, 2018 (UTC)

there is a more efficient way of displaying text pulled from other sections of the wiki. refer to the storyline pages or planets made before MEA's time.
it should be noted though that not all articles with corresponding codex entries require displaying the codex entry in the article itself. judgement calls still have to be made in balancing aesthetic considerations against needless logorrhea. Grunt Work

Hey Temp,

If you need help with grunt work, I'd be glad to help. I don't mind starting at the bottom of a list if you are starting at the top to knock out the monotonistic tasks to meet in the middle. I saw you chugging along but didn't want to interrupt. I also know that sometimes you have system going (myself personally) and you don't want someone else to break that flow.

Just let me know if you want some help or if you do in the future. :) --GS877 (talk) 23:41, May 19, 2018 (UTC)

MEA Weapon Pages / Format

Hey Temp,

I wanted to give you a heads up that I'm going to change the weapon pages for all weapons that are used in MEA to the two tab style like ME3 used. This doesn't change any of the structure of the existing weapon page for MEA, just creates the two new pages SP & MP (I'll follow the exact naming format ME3 used to be consistent).

The numbers aren't even close to the same for some of the weapons. Someone coming here would mistake the SP for the MP (potentially)

The main header will stay the same so that all links will stay correct but a person can click on the tab they want right below that.

I'll keep the same pic in the infobox.

MEAMP uses the ME3 style where Rank III is gone when you get Rank IV (you can't go back). When they change the numbers, you have to have that exact version to get the numbers. If you don't have it anymore, it's gone. You can't get rid of a gun so you'd have to create a brand new profile to start over.

They keep changing the stats on weapons with updates so the numbers may never get filled out on the MP page table correctly (until they stop all updates and someone is SOOOO bored that they want to open every pack they buy and very carefully fill out the table one item at a time). Rank I and Rank X are the ones people get right away but the II-IX's will take forever. I'll put them as stubs.

You'll see me start with the first weapon on the table and I'll just go through them systematically.

Wanted to let you know ahead of time. The first one might take a bit to get everything right but then the rest should go pretty easily.

Side Note: If this doesn't work, I'll just scrap the whole thing. (I'll update you based on the first weapon I do).--GS877 (talk) 21:17, May 21, 2018 (UTC)

Hey Temp, I did the M-8 Avenger#Mass Effect: Andromeda as a test. Everything seems to be ok. I may find small issues here or there but I'll take care of them as I find them. I used ME3 styles and cats as a template. I'll leave the stock MEASP numbers for tables and the stub for someone to fix them. (Unless you think they should be blanked out.) --GS877 (talk) 22:10, May 21, 2018 (UTC)
Hey Temp,
I finished the MEA Pistols last night. I went with creating the page, then going back an adding an edit to the MEAMP page with any patch/updates and the stub tag. That way someone else following after the fact will know what happened/can go back if they want.
From what I have learned online, when they created the 1.09 patch, they tripled the cards needed and it would take FOREVER to get all of the data even if they made no additional changes. Since that 1.09 edit they keep changing the weapons in MP every couple of months. I'm not even going to try and fill that out (like I said before). Just too many to get (unless someone accesses the source code and gets all of the numbers later in the future). I can add updates easily when they roll out to the existing table but that's only rank I and X.
I know you don't do MP, I know you don't need this level of detail, why are you still writing this GS877, I stopped reading after "Hey Temp"... :) Just wanted it documented to an admin why I did what I did because it is a large change to the MEA weapon pages. I know I wrote them all but having the history somewhere is important. If someone asks in the future, I know you'll be able to say "I have that somewhere in the archives why the weapon pages are that way..."
When I finish all of the weapon pages, I put a note here letting you know. --GS877 (talk) 18:46, May 22, 2018 (UTC)
Hey Temp,
I finished the MEA dual weapon tabs for all of the weapons yesterday. I got busy and forgot to send you a message like I said I would. --GS877 (talk) 02:59, May 25, 2018 (UTC)

ME3 Weapon Tab Question

Hey Temp,

I found something when I was making the MEA weapon tab pages. For some reason, some of the ME3 weapon pages force the tab to default to multiplayer but the rest are single-player. I copied from the N7 Piranha page for an example (coding broken on purpose).

< tabview >
N7 Piranha/ME3SP|Single-player
N7 Piranha/ME3MP|Multiplayer||true
< / tabview >

(The ||true forces the tab default to happen.)

Do you know why some are MP and some are SP for ME3?

Do you have an issue with me changing them all to SP? (or MP?)

Thanks, --GS877 (talk) 20:50, May 22, 2018 (UTC)

Hey Temp,
I went ahead and changed over to the SP tab. Most of the pages use SP instead of MP tab first. I couldn't find a reason why those few were pushed to display the MP tab first.
The following pages were fixed: (recording for historical record in one place)
Thanks. --GS877 (talk) 17:37, June 3, 2018 (UTC)
Hey Temp,
It turns out there was a reason for those tabs being MP first. Elseweyr left a note on my page about it. User_talk:GS877#MP_tab_priority. --GS877 (talk) 20:00, June 3, 2018 (UTC)

MEA Weapon Mods / Dual Tabs

Hey Temp,

They couldn't just leave the f789ing game alone. They had to go and do another "update" to all of the weapon mods for multiplayer for MEA. So now, I have to go and take all of the tables and sections on the Mods page and turn them into a tab format so there is an SP and an MP version.

Just wanted to let you know that my changes will be dropping in the next couple of days. It will be structured well, follow the weapons style of two pages to pull the info from, and use the tabview.

You'll see a test set of pages to work out the pattern and then I'll systematically go through each one. Stubs on the MP page as they only give I and X level.

Just wanted to let you know. I'll start when my eyeballs come down from the back of my skull because they rolled right around. --GS877 (talk) 03:16, May 25, 2018 (UTC)

Hey Temp,
I finished the Mod pages. I thought it would take longer than it did. Each has its own page and links to the tab view correctly. All updates have been added to the multiplayer tabs (May 24 updates superseding May 8 updates). --GS877 (talk) 23:00, May 25, 2018 (UTC)

Rename Page Request

Hey Temp,

I was trying to build a tabview inside of a tabview on the M-8 Avenger MEA portion of the page.

Each of the 5 MP weapons has different stats for the infobox and the tables will be changing so 5 different "pages" are required. (I didn't want a huge run-on long page).

I wanted to put the 5 multiplayer weapons on the multiplayer tab as sub tabs but it wasn't working right with tabview. (I didn't like the look of the tabber function with the box around it). It would show correctly in the preview pane but when I saved the edit, it changed to bullet points. I found the coding at this site page for what it was and it looked like everything was the same (except for the vde which we don't do). It just refused to work.

Instead I'll go with a single layer of tabs. With that said, I created page names that aren't what I need anymore.

I had to create the page names to run the test but can't rename with no redirect because only Users with the suppressredirect user right can optionally move a page without creating a redirect. (I looked up what I could and found that). That option doesn't show up for me when I try to rename the page.

As I am unable to rename the pages WITHOUT a redirect, I wanted to ask a favor if you could rename the following pages with no redirect so that they all have a standardized format moving forward. (I don't want 53 of 54 weapons right and one weapon not right. Just looks lazy on my part). I don't like leaving redirects for no reason.

The following four pages I would like to rename with no redirect:

1.
Original Name:
M-8 Avenger/MEAMP/M-8 Avenger S

New Name:
M-8 Avenger/MEAMP M-8 Avenger S

2.
Original Name:
M-8 Avenger/MEAMP/M-8 Avenger S Bulwark

New Name:
M-8 Avenger/MEAMP M-8 Avenger S Bulwark

3.
Original Name:
M-8 Avenger/MEAMP/M-8 Avenger S Concussive

New Name:
M-8 Avenger/MEAMP M-8 Avenger S Concussive

4.
Original Name:
M-8 Avenger/MEAMP/M-8 Avenger S Siphon

New Name:
M-8 Avenger/MEAMP M-8 Avenger S Siphon

The following two pages can be deleted as they are no longer needed.

User:GS877/Vault Storage/MEAMP

M-8 Avenger/MEAMP/M-8 Avenger

Thanks for your help Temp. I was trying some advanced stuff for my skill level. Almost got what I wanted but didn't work. I didn't want to be doing live edits all over the place or trying to build 20 special pages for deletion later.

If you are able to fix my rookie mistake and make it work that would be awesome or if I am fundamentally doing something wrong with the coding, let me know. Either way, I'll move forward with the other weapons and their alternate pics in a few days. --GS877 (talk) 07:29, May 28, 2018 (UTC)

Thank you Sir! :) --GS877 (talk) 16:59, May 29, 2018 (UTC)

Template Question

Hey Temp,

Quick question. I know you mentioned to me long ago about not using the Note: template (other than in walkthrough sections) because it's bad formatting. (Paraphrasing) I think I was slapping note all over the place and I was super green noobie editing at the time. 30 notes in like two sections. :)

I found an instance where someone else had created a note in a section for ME2 long ago.

M-76_Revenant#Acquisition

My question is this, if I come across someone else who as used the word "note:" in a section, should this be changed over to the Note: template? (Same for Warning: .)

Just asking ahead of time if there is a preference on this wikia for one or the other type of formatting.

I'm not going to hunt them down. :) I promise. I've got other stuff to do.

Thanks ahead of time. --GS877 (talk) 19:51, June 1, 2018 (UTC)

Hey Temp,
I went with a context based approach. If the person went to the trouble to write Note: then the template can be used. Reviewed on a case by case basis though. However, if they slapped it all over the place, then that's a different question to ask. Maybe there is a better way to say Note: on those pages.--GS877 (talk) 18:03, June 3, 2018 (UTC)

Template Types

Hey Temp,

I wanted to let you know that I used the Help:Template Types page to help me type the 48 "un-typed" templates.

If I was unsure, I went to the template category and found a similar template and looked to see what was used. For example, Warning: wasn't typed but Note: was. So I used what Note had. Most were Data or Design. If it modified how the text was displayed or where, then Design. If it was used to display a bunch of text (like a table) then Data.

A few notices and some infoicons as well. One or two quotes.

If I totally missed the mark on this, let me know. I went back and forth a few times and had to read the descriptions a few times for the ones I couldn't find a close example for in the templates category. The Data and Design type kind of overlap (in my mind) with the extra example descriptions they provided. Some are clearly Data and some are clearly Design but some are sort of both.

Thanks. --GS877 (talk) 09:24, June 3, 2018 (UTC)

Redirect Link Template

Hey Temp,

I saw you undid the Redirect Link template edit I did.

I stumbled onto the Redirect Link template and hadn't seen it anywhere. It seems like we normally use more specialized versions such as For, See, DisambigMsg, etc.

I did some checking and it was only on the Planets page. That was why I edited that page first (I didn't see your undo until after I published my delete).

I know I've seen you say before (paraphrased) "We're not Wikipedia, we don't follow their rules". I know we use useful tools as needed, but it seems like a specialized version that we normally use a lot more would be a better fit on that page.

Any thoughts on maybe a more specialized version? Getting rid of the generic template? If not, that's ok. Just curious. --GS877 (talk) 04:41, June 12, 2018 (UTC)

as you said we use -specialized- templates. disambigs = articles not article sections. there are distinctions in emphasis, use and scope between the similar functions of these templates. T̴̴͕̲̞̳̖̼̱͒͛̎͒ͫ̃ͧeͩ̈̽̈҉͓̝̰̼̦̫̤̀͠m̫̪̪̯̻͎̫̅̇̓̇͌̚p̸̙̝̓̓͌ͨ͆ͣͥ̂̕o͒̽͐̽͏̞̬̻͕͔͕͚̰͍͠͞ṙ̢̞͚͈̹̰ͨ̓ͭ̈́̌ạ̢̧̪̹̺̺̣̹̲͂͆̏ͪͨ͒ͭř̹͈͜͠y̷͍̻̜̹̼̾̽̈́e̵̹̼̟̦͚͐̈́͌͘d͉̲̣̻͉̱͗̅ḭ̷̻̆͋̆̓̔͝t̨͍̦̫̗͂̅̍̋̆ͩ͝ộ̫̟̬̳̝̲̾ͫ̒̿ͮ̑̚rͯ̎ͨͭ̄̿̽͛҉̠̫̱̠̘̘̲́ͅ7̩̻ͤͩͨ͝͡8̜̣̙͇̻ͨ͛͛̆͒̆̽̒͐͜͡ ͥ̍̉̃̇ͥ̓ͨ͏̕҉̥̹͓̗̤̠̖̤ (talk) 04:58, June 12, 2018 (UTC)
Would you be ok with For instead? I know I've redirected using a link literally hundreds of times to sections in articles and never used the Redirect link Template. It's redundant to me. When you click a link in a page, it takes you right to that section. (your mind just says, oh I guess that they are sending me to this section instead of a brand new age). Even on a #Redirect Page (link) I haven't used that template. You get a little blue "redirected from" at the top of the page. Having the line below the section say that the redirect points to that specific section seems redundant to me. That's why I looked at changing it. Do away with the extra text and only point to the other section instead makes more sense to me.
You're right about the disambig. I saw the "article" word as well and went "eeehhhhh, I don't know" at the time. I was wishy washy. Better to just use For and do away with the extra text.
Let me know what you think, and I'll be ok with either way. Thanks for your help and input. :) --GS877 (talk) 05:53, June 12, 2018 (UTC)

Symbol Question

Hey Temp,

I wanted to ask you a question about a symbol I found on an article in the Trivia section.
Epilogue: Home and Away#Trivia

A few of the bullet points have the OBJ symbol before the text. (I've not seen this one before).

I tried to research this symbol but all I can find is that it is a replacement character. U+FFFC Object Replacement Character Unicode Character. Wikiedpia has the following: Specials (Unicode_block).

Is this a transcription error where someone copied text from someplace else and it replaced/interpreted "something" with that symbol when it was pasted? Or is this symbol supposed to be used? Maybe a bullet point symbol that didn't translate correctly?

I'm curious as to what this symbol is and when to use it. You have much more experience with these types of things.

I have a feeling it should be removed on that page as the other bullet points with similar content don't have the symbol. When I went back in history, the text was added in one of a set of edits but no clarity came from my research. There is no reason or description for that symbol.

Thanks for any help you could provide. --GS877 (talk) 08:12, June 14, 2018 (UTC)

Spelling and Grammar Check

Hey Temp, I wanted to give you a quick update. You'll see me making changes to pages fixing spelling and grammar.

I can't get my editor to use the spell checking function consistently. I keep seeing MEA articles I've written / edited heavily and I keep finding spelling mistakes. I know I look at the text and sometimes I get red underline, sometimes not. I've tried the different editors (I prefer the classic). I've tried multiple browsers but it is hit or miss. I looked online and you can download extra programs but meh.

The best suggestion (and most tedious) is to just copy the text, drop it into another program, and run a check before posting. The good part on that is that outside programs run a grammar check at the same time as spelling is being checked.

I'm not doing this because I'm bored, I hate finding these stupid mistakes that I would have clearly fixed when I was updating the article. It looks sloppy on my part for not fixing those clearly stupid mistakes.

So I'll be copying text and checking for all of the articles I've worked on (The big stuff). When I check articles like Assault Rifles (that have OT stuff on them), I'll fix what I find but I'm not going through OT articles on their own.

I'll be using Microsoft Word so the grammar rules it finds I'll fix UNLESS it's in-game text or if the suggestion is just hard to read. Any American/British English findings I'll switch but I'm not going out of my way to find those. I know the MOS says we prefer American but not to change a whole article just for that. If you find one during a fix for other items it's ok but don't just switch an article for that only.

Just wanted to let you know ahead of time why I was doing what I was doing. --GS877 (talk) 17:30, June 23, 2018 (UTC)

Hey Temp, I saw your revert on Moshae Sjefa. "the next unwarranted brit/american/etc spelling changes will be met with wholesale reverts." I stopped changing things for brit/American per your prior requests. I didn't see which word is incorrect. (Checking online now).
Side note - I looked up Sceptic and I had no clue that it was a british version of the spelling of Skeptic. That one is new to me. I've never seen that one before. If I had known I would have left it alone. I'm going by what Word is giving me for spellings. Most are easily distinguished for brit/American. No offense or rule breaking was intended. Sorry about that. --GS877 (talk) 20:57, June 23, 2018 (UTC)

Talk Page / Category Problem

Hey Temp,

I have an issue that I can't find a solution to. Somehow my talk page has the Category:Mass Effect: Andromeda added to it. I found this when I was in that category page.

I can't remove or even find where it was added.

I've researched online, I've used every tool I can find or think of to pull the category and bupkis.

  • I've tried multiple editors in multiple browsers (only the source version shows up no matter which I try for the talk page). There is no category box in the editor to use the little trash can to remove the cat.
  • I've searched each post and none seem to have the category added.
  • I've opened every single post (as well as the overall talk page article) and none show the category box/text.
  • I'm unable to make the hidden categories text show up at the bottom of the article no matter what I try so that I can delete the text.
  • On the bottom of the page, I'm unable to use a small X to remove that way.
  • The "Disable cat module" in preferences is NOT checked (I can use the module and do often).
  • The "Show hidden cats" advanced option IS checked.

I've spent an hour online searching and dozens of the same posts on how to use the above tools is all I can find.

Can you help remove this error? Can you let me know how you pulled the cat/made it show up? I may be missing something really dumb but I've tried all of the suggestions online and all of the ways I know of to remove categories to no avail.

Thanks in advance. --GS877 (talk) 20:02, June 25, 2018 (UTC)

Hey Temp, there is some kind of autoadd I think. There are two other pages of DeldiRe's that also show up and have this similar problem. User:DeldiRe/Sandbox/APEX_HQ and User:DeldiRe/Sandbox/Strike_Teams.
I seem to remember code inside of a template I saw where cats were automatically added and you had to change the template to make that go away. That may not be the case in these three examples but it looks like it. I was able to make the category box show up for DeldiRe's articles but no cat shows up. I tried the add then remove trick but it still stays (that reminded me of the autoadd template thing).
The one thing in common between the three pages that I can see is that [ [Mass Effect: Andromeda Multiplayer]] is used on the pages. The non-multiplayer link isn't used. I broke the link so your page didn't get autoadded as well. :)
I don't know if it is the best practice to have an autoadd when a link is used (in this case). I know that it is very beneficial to not have keep putting cats in but it looks like it is adding them inadvertently to pages that shouldn't have cats (sandboxes, talk pages, etc). It's doing what it was designed to do but the designers didn't take into account those few outliers.
Can you help with this? I'm having trouble finding the autoadd (if that is even what is going on). I'd like to see it fixed so that it doesn't come back up again. Thanks again. :)--GS877 (talk) 21:02, June 25, 2018 (UTC)
ask yourself if autoadding mass effect: andromeda whenever the rarity template is called is actually a good practice when something else (probably the weapon template) is already doing that.
this is why a not insignificant amount of coding knowledge is important when designing backend stuff: to ensure you understand how particular processes go, so in the event something breaks even if you don't fully know why you can at least trace the problem and devise some approaches to fixing it. T̴̴͕̲̞̳̖̼̱͒͛̎͒ͫ̃ͧeͩ̈̽̈҉͓̝̰̼̦̫̤̀͠m̫̪̪̯̻͎̫̅̇̓̇͌̚p̸̙̝̓̓͌ͨ͆ͣͥ̂̕o͒̽͐̽͏̞̬̻͕͔͕͚̰͍͠͞ṙ̢̞͚͈̹̰ͨ̓ͭ̈́̌ạ̢̧̪̹̺̺̣̹̲͂͆̏ͪͨ͒ͭř̹͈͜͠y̷͍̻̜̹̼̾̽̈́e̵̹̼̟̦͚͐̈́͌͘d͉̲̣̻͉̱͗̅ḭ̷̻̆͋̆̓̔͝t̨͍̦̫̗͂̅̍̋̆ͩ͝ộ̫̟̬̳̝̲̾ͫ̒̿ͮ̑̚rͯ̎ͨͭ̄̿̽͛҉̠̫̱̠̘̘̲́ͅ7̩̻ͤͩͨ͝͡8̜̣̙͇̻ͨ͛͛̆͒̆̽̒͐͜͡ ͥ̍̉̃̇ͥ̓ͨ͏̕҉̥̹͓̗̤̠̖̤ (talk) 21:10, June 25, 2018 (UTC)
Sneaky, sneaky. AND I created the dang problem. 15 minutes in the corner, head hung low.
That was some of my first work on the wiki. I think created that template from two different places. I may have used a weapon template like you said and the color coding came from the French wiki. I know so much more since that time. I used coding examples that others had used and I didn't see/understand that autoadd function.
Thank you for sorting that out. I was pulling my hair out trying to find it. I pulled the MEA cat from the template. You are correct that it shouldn't be just for the MEA game.
I appreciate you taking the time to go over things like this. I really do. I know I pester the crap out of you with items sometimes but I was always taught that once you exhaust all of your options, go ask for help from the most knowledgeable person. Learn from that person and don't make the same mistake again (if at all possible).

Milky Way Page Question

Hey Temp,

Maybe you can answer this question. I was looking at the Milky Way page with all of the systems in the tables and I started looking at each of the planet names. I was looking at the words and trying to figure out what italicized, bold, etc on each word stood for. I swear I remember there used to be a Legend to describe what the type face and formatting of the text stood for.

Am I remembering incorrectly? Am I thinking of this someplace else perhaps? I tried looking on a system page and couldn't find it.

Because each of the sections for ME, ME2, ME3, and MEA are their own separate templates, the only way that a legend would show up when the template is added to an article is to add a legend to each template.

I'm one of the particular people that when they see a footnote †, I go looking for the text related to the footnote. The same with the text/icons and a legend. The text formatting is trying to convey additional information but there is no clear meaning for the formatting. You can suss it out eventually but it seems to me to be something that is lacking and should be corrected.

As that is a MAJOR article that is all over the place, I won't change/add anything without hearing back from you. Thanks for your help in advance. --GS877 (talk) 08:19, June 27, 2018 (UTC)

not "correct" edits and not the place for soapboxing your own comments. So, what was "wrong" about them? Of course I can leave out such comments in the future – I just wanted to reduce the risk that somebody reverts the edit because I wasn't able to give a better link. yeah, no. i personally verified the things you were changing several years back and barring some hitherto undiscovered fluke with how ME gives out mission/assignment names nothing is to be changed. So, if I get a mission/assignment/whatever entry, it's pure coincidence how it is named? Okay, then I'll only create a redirect for the further one I've just found.
Though the other edit was the addition of a yet unmentioned charm option in dialogue, however with no paragon outcome and an – to me – unknown required skill level. (Remember my comment.) Not allowed? -- UserCCCSig -- You talkin' to me? -- cCContributions -- 00:56, July 11, 2018 (UTC)
No further answer?
Then I will add back the charm option, this time without a "soapboxed" comment.
For the mission name: currently the article is either wrong or incomplete, no matter how "flukey" ME handles the names. So would it be okay for you if I added the possibility of two different names in the journal at that time, instead of changing the given name? -- UserCCCSig -- You talkin' to me? -- cCContributions -- 11:57, July 11, 2018 (UTC)
I've added the charm option again, this time without my comment. I'm still waiting for a reply to the mission naming thing. -- UserCCCSig -- You talkin' to me? -- cCContributions -- 15:48, July 14, 2018 (UTC)
CompleCCity,
Can you determine what the cut off for the Charm option is?
The Intimidate option - [ [Morality Guide#Citadel: Reporter's Request|Intimidate option]] - points to the Morality Guide and in that section the intimidate option requires "2".
I think the link [ [Dialogue#Charm|Charm]] should be changed over to [ [Morality Guide#Citadel: Reporter's Request|Charm]] to match the existing intimidate link. This would require the amount of charm though.
If there is a Charm option, that should also have an entry in the Morality Guide#Citadel: Reporter's Request section. The exact text for the Charm choice and the charm amount should be included. I understand that some of the very low charm/intimidate options are hard to quantify the longer you go in the game due to getting free points from Spectre training and/or taking Paragon/Renegade choices - See Morality#Mass_Effect.
I don't know about the protocol for the text to add for those types of cases where you purposely try to keep your charm/intimidate as low as possible all through the game to determine the cutoffs but have some points just because of the choices you must make and are given those free points without your choice.
Hopefully that helps a little bit. :) --GS877 (talk) 17:35, July 14, 2018 (UTC)
Hi, GS877.
If you tell me how I can see the required charm value (haven't cared about game files editing/viewing, yet), then I could add it. As for now, this has to be open.
But that's not the reason why I did not add this to the morality guide or linked to there: you only get more credits, with charm being an alternative to intimidate – but you do not get paragon points, opposed to renegade points for intimidating. So what's it like at the moment doesn't seem wrong to me. -- UserCCCSig -- You talkin' to me? -- cCContributions -- 21:25, July 14, 2018 (UTC)
Hey CompleCCity,
I only play on a console so I can't access the files. Pepoluan seems to do a lot with the PC Tweaks and may be able to help you with that question with a better answer. Temp may know a way as well (or be able to suggest a user that delves into that portion of game play style)
I would suggest getting to that mission with no points spent in Charm, save your game, and then start adding charm points until the "Greyed out" choice becomes an available "charm" choice. That way you know exactly how many points it takes. It does require that you save up enough unspent points though and depending upon how many are needed, you have to be dedicated to not spend 9 or more points for a high threshold level. You can repeat the process several times to find out when the choice becomes available. As I mentioned before, as you go progress into the game, points are automatically given to you so you can't say for sure the exact point using my method for low point amounts.
You are right about the page link. I didn't catch that the page only lists choices that give you paragon/renegade points and not all charm/intimidate responses.
On a side note, how many credits are given? That would be useful information to include. The player may want money early on and then on a subsequent newgame+ playthrough decide that paragon/renegade points are worth more than the money. Although later in the game, money means nothing when you hit the credit cap of 9,999,999 using the buying/selling method with Dr. Michel after completing Citadel: Doctor Michel. You can buy and sell the same items to her in the same merchant session and you get a net gain in credits. You sell her a gun for 100,000 then buy it back for 90,000. Gaining the item and 10,000. Rinse and repeat. With the expensive 600,000+ items you can start to make a lot of money quickly.
Hopefully that helps. :) --GS877 (talk) 22:04, July 14, 2018 (UTC)
The console apparently doesn't seem to offer an option of removing points from certain talents, so I'll try that savegame editor I've found somewhere. Less trouble than the method you've explained, but available only on PC, sorry.
Is credit gain related to the level as well as experience? Or is it fixed? Not knowing this was one of the reasons I didn't give any value. -- UserCCCSig -- You talkin' to me? -- cCContributions -- 22:58, July 14, 2018 (UTC)
Hey CompleCCity,
That is a good question. It doesn't look like the Credits page has that answer. That would be a great thing to test out and put a simple line with that answer. "Credit rewards are not level dependent in Mass Effect. Shepard gets the same credits for completing an assignment at Level 1 as Level 60" or something to that effect. Maybe Temp would know quickly off hand if that is the case. Maybe this information is on another page beside the credits page. (I checked the Experience Guide page and while items are level based I don't see anything on credits. Might not be a bad idea to have the answer to the credits question on that page as well.)
I can't test the game any longer as my XBOX is now in the closet in the box. The XBOX was getting kind of sketchy about working while I was playing ME. It took multiple tries to get the console to work and when it did, I finished out everything I needed to for my insanity run and haven't played it since. Display Question on Special: Recent Changes

Hey Temp,

Something I just noticed and can't figure out. Why do a few of the entries in the Special:Recent Changes screen display in bold formatting but most of them are not?

Looking at the entries, I can't discern a pattern and hovering over an item doesn't give any clue.

I thought maybe it was the amount of times edited. More edits equal bold but that is not the case. I thought maybe only "today's" edits do that but it looks like past days have it as well. I tried different browsers and they display the same bold.

I just wondered if this bold is to indicate something. Is this something to do with an admin function and it alerts you to look at these posts?

Just curious. :) --GS877 (talk) 22:23, July 15, 2018 (UTC)

As you've answered on so many of my questions, GS877, I think it doesn't hurt when I step in here and undertake the response: you're right with the admin thing if it comes to usernames (see e.g. Temp: always appearing bold ;), but that wasn't what really does interest you – bold articles/talk pages/etc. on the RC are entries from your watchlist, usually those you also have edited some day. Simple as that. :) -- UserCCCSig -- You talkin' to me? -- cCContributions -- 22:34, July 15, 2018 (UTC)
I did know that the different user rights levels give different signature formatting (if the user hasn't changed it like you have). The admins are white bold, chat moderators are blue, etc. I read an article somewhere listing all of the user levels and the default formatting that they are given.
That is a neat trick on the RC. I would never have guessed that was the answer. Thank you for that info. :) --GS877 (talk) 22:50, July 15, 2018 (UTC)

Redirects Response

Hey Temp,

I strongly disagree with your statement that "the redirects exist, use them or i am going to be -very- trigger happy in short order."

There is no rule in the manual of style that says weapon mod redirects for ME3 have to be used for weapon mods. There are no rules on redirects whatsoever. Your example was Pistol Ultralight Materials, not Weapon Mods#Pistol Ultralight Materials.

Either would be an acceptable use of a link. One link points to the redirect which points to the correct location. One points to the correct location directly. I can see both sides of the argument. Some would say that it makes it simpler to edit the code to be simple, I would say that I'd rather have the extra detail and not rely on a redirect to point to the correct location. Neither here nor there.

If such a rule existed, I would fully comply with said rule. There is no rule that I can find. (if it does exist and I just haven't been able to find it, please let me know the location and this discussion is moot).

According to the established rules of this wiki, if someone wants to change a rule, they can make a proposal and have it voted on. Some things just don't have to go down to the gnat's butt on detail. There doesn't have to be a rule for every little thing. Every wiki is a community that establishes it own rules. If a community wants that level of detail, they are allowed to have it.

I understand that you want your way, and I want my way. I will abide by any existing redirects already in the text. Technically I'm not breaking a rule, so I'm fully within my rights to make the change to the long link version. I will, however, leave them alone unless they are broken, point to the wrong weapon mod, etc. I will fix errors. Any new links that I create, I am free to use the full version that I use.

I can show you dozens of examples where someone else prior to myself used the full versions. That's not me trying to rub your nose in it. I am only pointing out that I followed someone else's example. If all links were the simple version prior to me making edit, then an unwritten rule (or convention) of the simple version would be in place and I would follow that rule.

What I will not abide is following arbitrary rules established by yourself alone that are not established rules by this community. The community guides state that the admin isn't above all else. The community decides.

If you wish to propose that redirects should be the short version, you are allowed to make that proposal to the community. I would read and consider your points before voting. You may have excellent points that sway me to the short version. I don't know at this point, as I haven't seen your justifications.

There are multiple ways of doing something. Some are more elegant than others. Some have benefits and disadvantages. There are consequences to the types of coding you choose. You may find that your grand symphony with the full orchestra just doesn't work right and you are reduced to using an Casio keyboard.

We can agree to disagree on redirects. I'm not here to sway you one way or the other. I will continue to edit ME3 weapon pages fixing errors that I find. If these edits are reverted for creating ONLY new links with the long version of a link, I will appeal this to Elseweyr and Teugene as the other admins. You are free to come in after myself and change them to the short version and I won't take offense. It says so right in the manual of style that your changes may be changed. Do not take offense.

I had to sit and think for some time before responding to your comments before so that I didn't say things in haste that would cause trouble. I'm here to make the wiki the best possible and be as helpful to those who come here. I'm not here to have drama over petty little things. It's not an episode of Dallas, St. Elmo's Fire, Baywatch, Murder She Wrote, Dawson's Creek, The Hills, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Party of Five or whatever teen drama tv shows these kids today watch (Insert whichever TV show was popular for your age group) :). You know you just thought of way too many bad or over acted tv shows.

I'll await your response before continuing. As I stated previously, I don't know about the rule of short links based on my research or where that can or cannot be found. I don't want to break the rule that I didn't know about. If I haven't heard back after a few days, I will assume that said rule doesn't exist and I will abide by my statements above of only making new links with my detailed style. I will fix any broken links but will state in the summary if I repaired something that was incorrect or broken if it deals with a short link. --GS877 (talk) 20:25, July 24, 2018 (UTC)

Navbox Weapons Order For ME2

Hey Temp,

I saw something when looking at the weapons for ME3. I wanted to ask as this was done long ago and there may be a perfectly reasonable answer to the question. (I'll ask Elseweyr as well).

For ME3, weapon pages have the ME3 weapons navbox and then underneath that navbox, the ME3 DLC navbox is located. In my mind that makes sense as "Here is the main content, here was stuff that was added later on in DLCs". A time based ordering.

Collector Assault Rifle is an example. The ME3 weapons all seem to follow this pattern (I haven't done an exhaust review).

For ME2, the order is the opposite. The DLC navbox is first and then the ME2 navbox.

M-29 Incisor is another example. I've looked at multiple ME2 weapons and they all seem to have DLC first then ME2.

The only thing I can think of is that the wording in the navbox is being used alphabetically to order them. Mass Effect 2 Downloadable Content comes before Mass Effect 2 Weapons.

As this was put into place long ago, there may be a very valid and voted on/in depth disscussions reason for the navboxes to be in that order. In my opinion long after the fact, it should be one way or the other, not both. I think ME2 then DLC makes more sense game wise. Matching how ME3 is now.

Could you shed some light on this? Should this be fixed?

Thanks in advance. --GS877 (talk) 17:23, July 26, 2018 (UTC)

Disambig Pages

Hey Temp, I went through all of the pages listed on Disambig to make sure that all pages link to the correct pages (if possible) and weren't pointing to disambig pages. Some pages still point to the disambig page as the disambig page was created as a sort of catch all. Upgrade is a good example or to a lesser degree Mech. If I was unsure even after reviewing the page for context or it was pointing to an overall concept I left it alone. I found this with a number of the "mech" pages that talked about generic mechs and didn't list the detailed mechs. It didn't make sense to remove that info as someone may want to know about mechs and would go to that page to find out more info. If someone was using it as a link after a mech name, I removed it / changed it to the correct link. Really depended upon the context around the link.

I left all of the User/Talk/Forum/etc links to the disambigs as I'm not allowed to change them per MOS (and our prior discussions).

I kept finding places pointing to disambigs (iridium lead to platinum lead to palladium, etc). After reading the top paragraph on a disambig page about pointing to the correct place, I just went out and fixed everything. I can sleep easy now. :) Well as easy as possible. --GS877 (talk) 03:49, August 2, 2018 (UTC)

Bold Formatting Question

Hey Temp,

CompleCCity pointed out something in the Mass Effect Wiki:Manual of Style/General#Lead section about using for bolding a title in an article. I do know that you can also put the title as a link title to produce the same effect. From most places I've seen on the wiki, the style in use is title. I've seen other editors change from to title in the past and I always use that formatting myself. I've literally created hundreds upon hundred of pages for MEA using title for the bold formatting. (I just followed what others had done for prevailing formatting.)

Should that section of the MOS be updated to say title or ? Or should they only be ? Or only title?

I'm not saying one way is right or the other. I'm just curious as to the history behind this as CompleCCity found that rule above and I had no idea it existed. I know this wiki does things for certain reasons and maybe long ago it was switched over to the title instead of the but wasn't updated. Or someone started using a new format without following the rules and it just took off.

Could you shed some light on the subject? Thanks in advance. :) --GS877 (talk) 07:00, August 3, 2018 (UTC)

got conflicting reports on it ever since i posed that question to staff a while back. they recommended the usual markup. light research indicated that self-links somehow interfere with bot maintenance, though i can't conceive of any particular scenario that can affect this wiki.
prohibitions against using the brackets seem to be more of a stylistic choice across wikis. editors from long before my time settled on a given format i don't plan on discontinuing. if there's actually a valid technical reason applicable for this wiki for avoiding them, i'm amenable to a policy change. If staff give conflicting reports, and they are supposed to be the experts experts, it might be a Christmas Ham reason. I don't know if you know that story but here is a link to a version of the story.Christmas Ham Story
Maybe there was a programming or physical component limitation in the past where they did it that way to save space or functionally it broke the system or something of the like. Those things just turn into rules of thumb over time but all the people who remember why are no longer around. Even after you can buy a new bigger pan, you just keep cutting the ends off that ham (the version I heard was cutting the ends off). The lore gets lost to time but it was a practical solution at the time that has since changed to no longer be a problem.
The secret recipe to the best ham is to cut the ends off... :) --GS877 (talk) 18:08, August 3, 2018 (UTC)

I'm not taking the bait

Just stop trying to bait me.

The fix to the Deconstruct disambig with the wording synonymously-named is just a silly attempt to get me to engage you.

It should be noted that you only did half of the job and forgot to update the Dismantled disambig page so that they matched each other. When I created the Deconstruct page, and the two disambigs at the time, I made sure they matched each other. Any good editor does their due diligence.

You now have two disambigs that no longer match.

Your lack of attention to detail is telling. --GS877 (talk) 21:28, August 6, 2018 (UTC)

i don't have the time to engage in e-pissing contests. i will update things on my own damn pace whether you like it or not.
i do not give a flying fuck if the disambigs "do not match"; there's no mandate for doing so in the first place. i've half a mind deciding to eliminate them entirely since the concepts are clearly defined within the context of the game, and so far i don't see any usages that mistake one for the other. further game progression will tell.
now that i am finally able to verify even MEA pages expect further scrutiny over things i've previously neglected to look over. better late than never etc. 22:10, August 6, 2018 (UTC)

If you have a problem with wording just do it better instead of reverting to false information . 177.67.81.171 15:09, August 8, 2018 (UTC)

Changing formatting on missions pages

1. Unless you are going to change all mission pages, do not change subheaders on mission pages. These are matched to in-game on the missions. All missions have this same format and were set before I even started editing. They now all match in-game after I went through all of them.

I have no issue with your changes to text inside the sections but the section headers themselves match in-game and should not be changed.

2. Puzzle solution sections formats were decided on and standardized awhile back by myself and DeldiRe. There was ample time to decide upon corrections and/or to make changes to the standardized format. Unless you are going to go and change all 22 puzzle section on the 16 mission pages and correct the Remnant Decryption Puzzle Guide, refrain from changing formats. Careful discussion and consideration was taken at the time to display the best information in the most useful format. --GS877 (talk) 17:42, August 11, 2018 (UTC)

except your "standardizations" are ass-backwards and highly inappropriate for the pages. puzzle text and colors remain at the guide only.
do not presume to tell me which mission headers can and cannot be translated directly into walkthrough articles. i attempted something similar on the trilogy pages ages ago and came to the conclusion not everything can be matched 1:1. it still depends on the general flow of the article.
the overhaul i made is the sort of standardization that should be implemented on the other articles. prose. less bullets. no pseudocommentaries. more in line with trilogy page aesthetics while allowing for distinctive MEA elements. T̴̴͕̲̞̳̖̼̱͒͛̎͒ͫ̃ͧeͩ̈̽̈҉͓̝̰̼̦̫̤̀͠m̫̪̪̯̻͎̫̅̇̓̇͌̚p̸̙̝̓̓͌ͨ͆ͣͥ̂̕o͒̽͐̽͏̞̬̻͕͔͕͚̰͍͠͞ṙ̢̞͚͈̹̰ͨ̓ͭ̈́̌ạ̢̧̪̹̺̺̣̹̲͂͆̏ͪͨ͒ͭř̹͈͜͠y̷͍̻̜̹̼̾̽̈́e̵̹̼̟̦͚͐̈́͌͘d͉̲̣̻͉̱͗̅ḭ̷̻̆͋̆̓̔͝t̨͍̦̫̗͂̅̍̋̆ͩ͝ộ̫̟̬̳̝̲̾ͫ̒̿ͮ̑̚rͯ̎ͨͭ̄̿̽͛҉̠̫̱̠̘̘̲́ͅ7̩̻ͤͩͨ͝͡8̜̣̙͇̻ͨ͛͛̆͒̆̽̒͐͜͡ ͥ̍̉̃̇ͥ̓ͨ͏̕҉̥̹͓̗̤̠̖̤ (talk) 17:59, August 11, 2018 (UTC)
I'm not going to argue with you. You have your opinions and I have mine but there are established rules-of-thumb for MEA mission pages. The rule-of-thumb established by the original creators of the mission pages is "subheaders match in game text". Over time that wasn't followed for about 20% of the articles due to popularity of the game declining. The quality of the work by different editors varied. Someone would make a new mission page and not understand or look at the 100+ other missions to see how they were constructed and didn't follow the rule-of-thumb.
Just like you have a rule-of-thumb now for using the short redirect links for weapon mods in ME3. It's not written down anywhere but they now all match.
MEA is not like ME1, ME2, or ME3 in an untold number of ways. A good portion of the prior formatting works but a portion of it doesn't. Sections and formatting were adapted by others in those cases. Mission subheaders were one of those things. The mission subheaders are easy to identify as you can play the game and see them (or go to the mission journal and see the complete list for the mission). I just made sure that all mission pages matched in-game exactly by carefully going through the missions to make sure that the rule of thumb is followed.
I'm pointing out to you the rules-of-thumb that are clearly in place as no official mission pages were created in the MOS. If you have an issue with the mission page rules-of-thumb, take that up with Elseweyr or Teugene. You could also propose a standardization page for the MOS for mission pages (or a set of rules). The community could then vote upon that proposal. Seeing as the proposal could potentially impact every mission page that is already standardized to the subheader rule-of-thumb, I don't think that a proposal is required at this time but that's up to you.
On a side note - There are many pages that link to the existing mission subheaders. Removing subheaders will cause links to incorrectly work and has larger impacts. Changing missions subheaders will be undone to put them back into place. Other text changes will be left alone.
If you disagree with the color coding on the article sections for Remnant puzzles, take that up with DeldiRe. That's his idea and I happen to agree with him on it. Each puzzle section follows the same rule-of-thumb for formatting.
I'm not here to lecture you, attempt to hector you, or get into a pissing match. I'm holding you to the same set of standards that this wiki has for any member. You would do the same to me if I went and started changing well established formats in ME1, ME2, or ME3 pages. I happen to know the formatting for the mission pages in MEA very well as I've gone through every single one several times. I know the ins-and-outs of them and I've found most every rule of thumb they put into place because they weren't written down. I still stumble and Elseweyr helps me out in those cases but I'm more than happy to learn and grow. --GS877 (talk) 18:51, August 11, 2018 (UTC)

Mission Subheaders

Look, I didn't make the game. Ok. Bioware did.

There were crappy at how they designed the mission objectives.

They aren't even consistent for vault missions.

  • Taming a Desert matches exactly what shows up in game. They have 3 different versions of the same thing but named totally different than any other planet.
  • Healing Kadara's Heart has the same type of sub mission but different Glyph amounts. They name it different for that one with a special sub-mission called The Outlaw Monolith.
  • A Better Beginning kinda follows the pattern but not really.

- - - - - - - -

Each sub header is a mission objective that shows up in the journal. It's how the game keeps track of what you do.

So, for example, You go to a monolith. Activate Monoliths (0/3) appears on screen. Another objective pops for Scan for Glyphs (0/3). This is proximity based.

You now have two objectives that are active in the journal.

Activate Monoliths (0/3) Scan for Glyphs (0/3)

As you scan the three glyphs the game counts upwards 1/3, 2/3, until you get 3/3.

Then it completes the Scan objective and you are given

Activate The Monolith

Once you activate the monolith, the Activate objective completes and

Activate Monoliths (turns into) 1/3. You repeat this for the other two monoliths and then the next objective shows up.

Now here is the problem and why they weren't combined. If you go to each monolith. You don't scan for the glyphs but go to the next monolith instead and activate the scan for glyphs by coming into proximity you will now have 2 of the same objective showing. Do the same for the third and you can have multiple sub objectives all over the place.

This is particularly nasty on Elaaden in Taming a Desert. Each monolith in specifically named, with specific sub objectives that only appear at that monolith.

It's a chronological order of what is going to show up during your mission and a guide to what you should be seeing. They sucked at being consistent, it looks like multiple people designed the missions and they don't match, they couldn't pick a standard objective format, but that's what we have to work with.

Wait until you see Defeating the Kett. That one is an absolute nightmare for things bouncing all over, for objectives starting at the beginning of the mission, then not showing up until halfway through again, then disappearing again, then adding 4 more objectives in between.

They sucked at this mission design and documentation. But it matches in-game. If you follow the subheaders, you know you're on the right track. There are things that do and do not show up based on choices Ryder makes. Subheaders are influenced by acquisition method.

They built an open ended world with multiple ways to get things done instead of the tried and true ME format that was very linear and had little to no errors. This open ended world crap just puts twenty different new problems into place.

By following the subheaders, you can compare it to your journal to ensure that you are on the right track.

I don't always like it, sometimes it's tricky to use (see Defeating the Kett) but when you follow the subheaders as a guide you can get the missions completed. I didn't start the rule of thumb but I can say that 95% of the missions are straight forward and make sense. A to B to C to D. Sure the vault missions have redundant subheaders at times. The Architect missions are absolutely horrible for this. You watch in game this stuff pinging senselessly over and over for the same mission objectives but that is what they did. If you don't Defeat All Kett you can receive the next objective to continue attacking a conduit. That's just the way it works.

Sometimes they endless put subheaders into a mission with ten objectives when only two would have been fine. If you don't do step 5 you can't get 6.

It's a reason that people hated the game.

Without the subheaders you can easily miss what you are supposed to be doing and the required steps can be a pain in the butt. I just think of them as Chapters. You did chapter 1, now here is chapter 2, and so on. It's not the best thought for game design. Again, they should have stuck to what they knew and not tried the Elder Scrolls Bethesda open world crap.

I didn't make the rule of thumb. The people who set up all of the missions did that. They now all match. One of our core tenets on this wiki is that in-game takes precedent over all other sources (unless a specific community set of rules was put into place by vote).

The subheaders match in game. If you don't like that, as I said, propose a project to change them all to you pared down minimalistic version that doesn't match in-game. But the community has to decide and not yourself. The missions are all matching the rule of thumb now. You are violating that rule by removing them.

I'm completely within my rights to undo subheader changes. I'm not edit warring. And you can't ban me for following the rules. You yourself have undone changes I've made to subheaders in ME3 because I broke links. I didn't know it at the time but it was a valuable lesson. Don't change things unless you fully understand the impact. That is exactly what you are doing right now.

By keeping this up, I'm asking Elseweyr to be the admin in this case between two people editing back and forth to make the final call. You are no longer able to be an admin in this case. You are taking a personal stance on an issue and no longer being objective.

Don't threaten me ever.

--GS877 (talk) 08:56, August 12, 2018 (UTC)

i didn't ask for the mechanics of the game, thank you very much. i am telling you that we have some leeway in designing the walkthrough articles because it was never set in stone that mission headers = walkthrough headers. we matched it at times for clarity, yes, but again it is not mandatory. this is a different animal entirely from codex entries or mission/assignment entries or equipment descriptions because those things are simple static entries (apart from some pronouns or ryder decisions).
get this through your head.
i shouldn't have had to play the admin card but matters of wiki organization fall within our arbitration. -we- determine what is proper, not the other way around, because we have a wider scope of things to consider (and are obligated to consider) than regular editors. it is -me- telling -you- how things are done, not the other way around.
bitch all you want, at the end of the day i still end up with the more objective design. T̴̴͕̲̞̳̖̼̱͒͛̎͒ͫ̃ͧeͩ̈̽̈҉͓̝̰̼̦̫̤̀͠m̫̪̪̯̻͎̫̅̇̓̇͌̚p̸̙̝̓̓͌ͨ͆ͣͥ̂̕o͒̽͐̽͏̞̬̻͕͔͕͚̰͍͠͞ṙ̢̞͚͈̹̰ͨ̓ͭ̈́̌ạ̢̧̪̹̺̺̣̹̲͂͆̏ͪͨ͒ͭř̹͈͜͠y̷͍̻̜̹̼̾̽̈́e̵̹̼̟̦͚͐̈́͌͘d͉̲̣̻͉̱͗̅ḭ̷̻̆͋̆̓̔͝t̨͍̦̫̗͂̅̍̋̆ͩ͝ộ̫̟̬̳̝̲̾ͫ̒̿ͮ̑̚rͯ̎ͨͭ̄̿̽͛҉̠̫̱̠̘̘̲́ͅ7̩̻ͤͩͨ͝͡8̜̣̙͇̻ͨ͛͛̆͒̆̽̒͐͜͡ ͥ̍̉̃̇ͥ̓ͨ͏̕҉̥̹͓̗̤̠̖̤ (talk)
Point 1. All 221 missions have the in-game text match the sub-headers. To quote you "we matched it at times for clarity". No, not at times, or some of the time or when we felt like it, they all match. Be precise and accurate with your numbers or don't make that wishy washy lackadaisical argument.
Point 2. I never said they were codex articles.
Point 3. There is nothing dealing with subheaders that impacts the wiki in any way shape or fashion that has to be included in a "wider scope of things to consider". It that were so, and there were some critical issue with subheaders you would have fixed it in February or March of 2017 when the game was on fire and the edits were fast and furious. There is no secret reason, there is no mumbo jumbo, there is no wider scope. It's just you pulling rank.
Point 4. I'm not telling you how things are done. I'm letting you know that there is a well and long established rule of thumb that they match. I didn't design it that way, you certainly didn't correct me when I fixed the small number that didn't exactly match over the past six months, and I wasn't here when they created the mission pages to be involved with the design rule of thumb that THEY PUT INTO PLACE. There is no MOS section on this for MEA.
Point 5. "at the end of the day i still end up with the more objective design." - I never said the rule of thumb was the best or that your ideas were wrong. In fact I said it at times had issues with the subheaders matching in my statement above. WHAT I DIDN'T DO WAS JUST THROW THE RULES OUT AND MAKE UP MY OWN LONG AFTER THE FACT. I abided by the rules of thumb already in place and ensured they all matched. When I didn't know, I asked for help. Sometimes my changes were fixed/reverted by Elseweyr when I didn't know the past history. I never took it personally, I just learned and grew from the new knowledge.
If I had wanted to change the format drastically, I would have followed the rules which say you have to put things like that forth in a proposal so that the community can decide. Things that are well established have consequences for making changes. The community should understand and decide those issues unless it deals with fit, form, or function of the wiki (then it falls into your wider scope argument).
You have a long sordid reputation here. I gave you the benefit of the doubt. That was the past and not my dealings with you over the past 6 months. A man can have rough edges and still change his path given enough time. My present now matches the past of others. Your path has not changed. You've lost my respect. Completely. You may not care what that's worth but you should.
GOOD DAY SIR! --GS877 (talk) 10:15, August 12, 2018 (UTC)
i never cared for e-points. i care about the wiki. those 221 missions you were talking about are andromeda missions and were fucked from the beginning since i wasn't able to nip the problem in the bud early and tell people back then what should and shouldn't be done. that's on me. same goes for all other MEA articles and i did tell you i -will- scrutinize the fuck-ups that have been allowed to fester.
THIS is me rectifying the problems -you- propagated, if not started, over a year after the fact. get with the program or get out, i couldn't care either way. Temp, I have always took side with you when you had an argument with an editor, but you are going too far this time, in your vision and in your wording/tone. We all know that most of MEA pages are fucked up since the beginning. The reasons are simple and don't put that on others:
  • There is a huge amount of data in MEA;
  • There are very few editors since MEA launch (and all news to the wiki).
However, GS877 is the (almost only) editor who made HUGE improvements to those pages and in a 'wiki' way as he was always discussing his edits,.... He is also always really calm with you even if you spit in his face all the time. I would suggest you to watch your tone and to start editing with other editors EVEN if, most of the time, you are doing a really good job. I will not let you speak like this to our rare editors, especially when they are willing to do quality work! The admin's status doesn't allow such behavior. It should be the opposite.--DeldiRe (talk) 17:42, August 12, 2018 (UTC)

Why did it take you guys 6+ years of temp constantly cursing out and insulting editors, banning without warning, breaking his own rules with no consequence etc to finally do your jobs and call him out on it? 🤔

I suggest to upload a new version instead of remove the image. There is no added value in removing the picture. There is a lot of pictures with lower quality everywhere on the wiki on the MEA part. you only have yourself and some others to blame (plus obviously myself for not taking action earlier) for the proliferation of shit-quality images in MEA. in the future don't bother uploading similar-tier pictures since i'll be replacing them anyway. if you can't do it properly, then don't make my job harder. it's both easier and harder to screencap MEA compared to the trilogy these days.

Which method do you use for the moment for screencap? I'm eager to improve quality on articles I've already treated. --DeldiRe (talk) 11:58, September 6, 2018 (UTC)
Hey Temp, I reiterate my question so I can try to get some nice shots. Thanks in advance. --DeldiRe (talk) 12:05, September 17, 2018 (UTC)
there are 3 main methods. one is by keybinds + console commands. another only requires a fairly recent nvidia card. the last one is 3 separate tools: camera placement, forcible screen resize, screencapping tool. google est ton ami.
the first method worked for the trilogy, but frostbite options are fairly limited compared to UE3. the second method practically supersedes the first in terms of usability and userfriendliness, but suffers from the same tiledshot problems as with UE3 (postprocess effects not properly captured). not particularly a problem if not taking pictures with lensflares. the third one is my predominant method since 4k images are captured as is, but the shit is taxing and -WILL- crash your pc if you aren't careful.
the second method isn't allowed in cutscenes. the third method can be used almost anywhere, but due to how some levels are designed a scene may not look the same ingame compared to flycam. pausing also crashes ingame cutscenes, further limiting dynamically taken character shots.
it's pretty much a shitshow and a lot of patience and trickery/creativity is required. Don't know if what I will tell is the second method, Temp mentioned (though I don't understand the "not allowed in cutscenes" thing, then). I have an nVidia card, and I use the GeForce Experience built-in tool to movie-capture my whole gaming session (in multiple clips). This way I can replay all I want to see/experience again which also can be very helpful in creating walkthroughs. But the main reason is to have a source for screencaps: watch the recorded movie (with VLC player, for example), find a scene worth to get a screenshot from, then play that scene again frame for frame, and take (with the VLC built-in method) a cap from each frame that's looking good. Then you have a series of screenshots from which you can choose the best. Certainly, there are similar other tools to do this. Don't know if this is more complicated than what Temp explained or less – it's my method. -- UserCCCSig -- You talkin' to me? -- cCContributions -- 12:03, September 21, 2018 (UTC)
recording a playthrough then screencapping it defeats the purpose of quality screenshots because the source video is already subject to encoding loss. submissions made with this will still be replaced in short order. i'm talking about something else regarding nvidia cards, and i say again google is your friend. Since you announced announcements, I wanted to preemptively mention that you can include in it, assuming you intend to do it in a simple manner, a link to this: https://dev.wikia.com/wiki/AnnouncementsIgnore
-- Theh5 04:13, September 19, 2018 (UTC)

lol. the entire point of announcements is to keep people apprised of what needs attention around the wiki. there's a ton of work still to be done and plenty of reasons to keep announcing around. of course people are free to disable notifications on their own anyway. Bug confirmation rule

Can the 3-people-confirmation requirement be waived in the case that references to verifiable sources are added? This is the first wiki that I hear this rule, and TBH I think it's quite a requirement because ME1 is a very old game. ZypA13510 (talk) 14:29, September 22, 2018 (UTC)

can't do anything about it. 3 people including yourself or nothing. if there's something on official channels (EA's tech support, backups of old bsn from the internet archive, etc), proper sourcing. T̴̴͕̲̞̳̖̼̱͒͛̎͒ͫ̃ͧeͩ̈̽̈҉͓̝̰̼̦̫̤̀͠m̫̪̪̯̻͎̫̅̇̓̇͌̚p̸̙̝̓̓͌ͨ͆ͣͥ̂̕o͒̽͐̽͏̞̬̻͕͔͕͚̰͍͠͞ṙ̢̞͚͈̹̰ͨ̓ͭ̈́̌ạ̢̧̪̹̺̺̣̹̲͂͆̏ͪͨ͒ͭř̹͈͜͠y̷͍̻̜̹̼̾̽̈́e̵̹̼̟̦͚͐̈́͌͘d͉̲̣̻͉̱͗̅ḭ̷̻̆͋̆̓̔͝t̨͍̦̫̗͂̅̍̋̆ͩ͝ộ̫̟̬̳̝̲̾ͫ̒̿ͮ̑̚rͯ̎ͨͭ̄̿̽͛҉̠̫̱̠̘̘̲́ͅ7̩̻ͤͩͨ͝͡8̜̣̙͇̻ͨ͛͛̆͒̆̽̒͐͜͡ ͥ̍̉̃̇ͥ̓ͨ͏̕҉̥̹͓̗̤̠̖̤ (talk) 14:31, September 22, 2018 (UTC)
To clarify, you mean bugs/exploits etc. with proper reference to official channel, does not require 3 edit confirmation, correct? And does answer.ea.com count as "official channel"?
Btw, just some personal opinion on this rule, I would certainly vote against it if you ask me. Many users won't even bother to edit or to check the talk page. And given the age of these titles (I mean the trilogy), we'd be most likely waiting indefinitely thus accomplish nothing. Even on wikis of much more popular game, I do not see the requirement of this rule. ZypA13510 (talk) 14:54, September 22, 2018 (UTC)

So, I've found 3 edits on the same bug, why do you still revert my edit? The links are too long for the summary, so I'm posting them here: revert1 revert2 revert3 ZypA13510 (talk) 15:23, September 22, 2018 (UTC)

if there are actionable workarounds from ea answers and not just 6 billion kids whining that their game doesn't work for no reason, that can be used. again, sources are *required*. settled internally through the talkpages or external links so people can verify where the information came from.
make a section on the talkpage detailing the edit histories you uncovered, post them there. follow the example of the elevator bug also detailed on the page.
we've had more than our fair share of people claiming bug x happens on so and so when it's actually something other than the games at fault. let those wikis of other "popular" games do their own thing, we are not them and never will be. Added a section in talk page, restored the content plus some sourcing in bug section. I did't get what you mean to follow the style of elevator bug, it's just one line of text. So I've done it my way, feel free to change it or the style whatever you like. I'm done here.
TBH, people does not make money editing some random wiki, and this bureaucratic shit (no offense) just costed me more than an hour. ZypA13510 (talk) 16:18, September 22, 2018 (UTC)
Actually, judging from the timestamps, 2 hours, to be precise.ZypA13510 (talk) 16:19, September 22, 2018 (UTC)
and i've actually been wasting my time here for over 6 years now. go figure. in any case, it's acceptable enough. Wreav's VA in ME3

Hi, this is me b*tching about a reverted edit.

Urdnot Wreav in ME is voiced by Roger L. Jackson, not an unknown VA. This can be sourced back to Jackson's own online CV, and if that doesn't convince you, you can always take a sound clip of Wreav's dialogue, transpose it up a couple of semitones, and listen for yourself.

I won't re-revert it, however, because that is now your job.

2001:14BA:10F8:E900:7ACA:39FF:FEBB:1AA8 09:40, October 4, 2018 (UTC)

we've never used voice comparisons as "proof" since due to the heavy voice modulation used in so many ME characters basically anyone and their dog can claim to have voiced whoever characters have no officially confirmed VAs.
the criteria for acceptance is in the talkpage. it's -your- job to do your due diligence in research and proper sourcing, not mine. I did. I provided you with an actual, legitimate source. I suggest you use it, and put the credit back on the page.

2001:14BA:10F8:E900:7ACA:39FF:FEBB:1AA8 09:57, October 4, 2018 (UTC)

and again, that is -not- a legitimate source. learn to read. So an actor's personal online résumé isn't considered a legitimate source? That's news to me.

for the last time, read what i posted in the wreav talkpage. then also read the guidelines on information sourcing for good measure. i won't be entertaining any more boneheaded queries regarding sourcing. Editorial Hubris, or...?

Hello. Why are you aggressively deleting my sincere, and unanswered, query about the duality of Pulse Rifles existent in ME1? I do not understand your motivation or rationale.

you're not fooling anybody. you're the same longwinded schmuck who persists in mucking up talkpages and articles with autistically florid (and ignorant) rants and your editing privileges have been revoked ages ago for spamming almost-gibberish and jumping IPs. for all your projected delusions of eloquence and intelligence, take a hint. Greetings/Assistance Please

Hello Temporaryeditor,

I am new to this wikia, but I hope to get along, I was hoping to get your help with something, I too have my own wikia which creates articles of fictional organizations, I need your help with getting an organized list of characters that are either affiliated or closely associated with the Citadel Council such as their leaders, second in command, military leaders, and other well known individuals and champions.--CNBA3 (talk) 05:52, December 8, 2018 (UTC)

the items you're looking for are at the bottom of the article. Citadel Security Services and Spectres also have respective sections on known/notable personnel. . .
