Power Pages / Mass Effect 3 Question / Admin Request

I found an issue while going through the Mass Effect 3 power pages after having edited most of them to ensure they matched the in game text and all of the pages had the same format.

I'm asking for your help because you are an absolute stickler for details and you look at a situation quickly and give a clear answer. I appreciate that.

Here is what I found. Keeping in mind that "you don't do multiplayer". Some of the power pages list the characters that the powers apply to at the top of the page as well as the Availability section at the bottom of the page. The Sentry Turret power is an example.

Sentry Turret

Some pages use a generic version sort of in the middle of the two listing just the class not the specific characters at the top while also listing specifically in the Availability section at the bottom. The Cluster Grenade power page is an example.

Cluster Grenade

Some pages do not list the characters at the top of the page and only list the characters in the Availability section at the bottom. The Nova power page is an example.

There is a mix of all three in the power pages. While this isn't a universe ending find, I'm unclear as to which of the three is correct. After thinking about this for a while, I think that it should only be listed at the bottom as there is a specific section for it. No sense in duplicating information at the top. There is nothing wrong with it being at the top, just that the pages aren't all the same.

I'm willing to correct all of the pages to the same style, I just don't know which is correct. Top and bottom or Availability section only?

As you know the details of the manual of style the best, can you make an admin determination on this for me?

I will then being correcting pages.

Thanks for your help. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by‎ (talk · contr). 15:06, January 16, 2018 (UTC)

Temp, after further review, I found the Mass Effect Wiki:Manual of Style/Powers page and it does show having the availability section at the bottom and describes being brief in the top of the page. It doesn't show having the characters repeated at the top.
Would you agree as the admin that the extra duplication should be removed from power pages (using Mass Effect 2 & 3 power pages manual of style format)?
Thanks for your help. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by‎ (talk · contr). 15:34, January 16, 2018 (UTC)
the intro text was supposed to be a -very- short description of what the power is/does but usually people aren't imaginative enough (or have the time) to say anything else other than which character/s have it. if you can think up of something succinct, feel free to do so. Thank you for your help Temp. I will begin the process of verifying the availability section for all of the powers (adding it if it is missing) and updating the top portion to remove duplicated info. I'll put a short layman's version of what the power does (if it isn't obviously clear from the name). —The preceding unsigned comment was added by‎ (talk · contr). 21:09, January 16, 2018 (UTC)
Side note Temp. From the 5 I have fixed so far, I haven't put anything extra in the top paragraph because everything is already obviously in the page title or the player notes section in much better detail. If I do find sections that make sense to add I will add them, but at this point I don't think there will be much to add. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by‎ (talk · contr). 22:22, January 16, 2018 (UTC)

Warlord Rage Stub Page Status

The Warlord Rage page is showing at the top that it is considered a stub article but from everything that I can see on the page it looks exactly like other mature power pages for Mass Effect 3. The description is correct, all of the power ranks are listed, all of the sections appear to be in the correct places per MOS. I don't see anything on the talk page about missing items. There doesn't appear to be anything that needs expanding or extra information needed from what I can see.

I may be totally wrong on this and feel free to light me on fire if I am. :)

Is there a way to convert this over to a mature page and remove stub status? Or is there a process to do this i.e. you have to submit for a proposal, vote, etc. like you have told me about before?

Thanks for going over this for me. I don't know much about the stub process and didn't see anything obvious in the MOS on stubs. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by‎ (talk · contr). 23:26, January 16, 2018 (UTC)

I'm an idiot and put the wrong page link. I just noticed it. It should have been Warlord Rage and not Krogan Warlord Sentinel. I fixed the message above and title with the correct link/name. Sorry about that. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by‎ (talk · contr). 07:22, January 18, 2018 (UTC)
right, sorry forgot about this. the page (and some similar powers) doesn't have any player notes although the others aren't marked as stubs. if there really isn't anything notable about it, perhaps a couple of cost-based analyses will do (e.g. if it's better maxing this out first instead of other powers, if it's better off alternating points between this and some other powers, etc). T̴̴͕̲̞̳̖̼̱͒͛̎͒ͫ̃ͧeͩ̈̽̈҉͓̝̰̼̦̫̤̀͠m̫̪̪̯̻͎̫̅̇̓̇͌̚p̸̙̝̓̓͌ͨ͆ͣͥ̂̕o͒̽͐̽͏̞̬̻͕͔͕͚̰͍͠͞ṙ̢̞͚͈̹̰ͨ̓ͭ̈́̌ạ̢̧̪̹̺̺̣̹̲͂͆̏ͪͨ͒ͭř̹͈͜͠y̷͍̻̜̹̼̾̽̈́e̵̹̼̟̦͚͐̈́͌͘d͉̲̣̻͉̱͗̅ḭ̷̻̆͋̆̓̔͝t̨͍̦̫̗͂̅̍̋̆ͩ͝ộ̫̟̬̳̝̲̾ͫ̒̿ͮ̑̚rͯ̎ͨͭ̄̿̽͛҉̠̫̱̠̘̘̲́ͅ7̩̻ͤͩͨ͝͡8̜̣̙͇̻ͨ͛͛̆͒̆̽̒͐͜͡ ͥ̍̉̃̇ͥ̓ͨ͏̕҉̥̹͓̗̤̠̖̤ (talk) 13:36, January 18, 2018 (UTC)
You did nothing wrong. You say at the top of your page that you do have other things going on and you will get to requests as you are able (as long as they aren't absolutely stupid and a waste of time / why did you revert my edit that I didn't think about before I did it and certainly didn't read the MOS). :)
I messed up and didn't give you the right information and that was why I figured you hadn't worked on it yet. Silence does communicate a message quickly sometimes. I went back to check and then found my error (even though you weren't ignoring me/waiting for me to find my mistake). I was able to fix the mistake and allow you to give me the help I had asked for.
I updated the Warlord Rage page with information based upon the differences between the Rage power and the Warlord Rage power. As this is a passive power that you can choose health/shield vs. melee damage builds, there isn't a whole lot of comparing to do. Point for point what you spend on this passive power is either about melee or health/shields. You can't really get a large number of combinations / gameplay changes based upon your choices for this power. You either want to kill quicker or not get killed quicker. :)
I was able to take the note from the Rage page about the melee build style of play but the rest is personal preference. Most Fitness pages are the same way for ME3 multiplayer. Some people like one way of play or the other. As I prefer one way, I can't really put lots of differing opinions and I don't want to slant it towards my style of play. Keeping it neutral per MOS. Most play style information is on the Krogan Warlord Sentinel page already with lots of different types of power builds from other players with the 4 other powers taken into account as well so just copying and pasting stuff onto Warlord Rage didn't seem appropriate.
I was able to put information there about the regeneration and some comparison to Bloodlust. While not the same, it does let the player know there is additional information on other pages and similar characters / styles of play can be considered.
I tried to keep the player notes factual based on other power pages, give a new person looking for information, comparisons, differences (if there are any) for Warlord Rage a place to find that information, and generally make the person more well informed without just copying sections from the main character page or other pages just to fill up a section.
Do you feel that this is enough to remove stub status (or start the stub removal process)?
Thanks for your help. I really do appreciate you taking the time to go over these items. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by‎ (talk · contr). 15:01, January 18, 2018 (UTC)

Photos In Asset Storage

While updating the power pages per the previous posts, I stumbled across several small photos of the power icons that are not found anywhere else on the site. Most other icons are already available in the Powers area. I was able to use several of them though. It looks like you created a storage area for the images in 2013.

specifically the - ME3 power icons (lksdjf)

The images come up on the pages I used them on when I use [ [ file : (file name) ] ].

I updated the pages with the images listed below that didn't already have icons available in the standard format.

Armor Piercing Arrows.png

Biotic Focus.png

Cain Trip Mine.png

Concussive Arrows.png

Nightshade Blades.png

Icon Repair Matrix.png

Most icons are a smaller size and use a box format around them. The remaining icons in that storage area are higher resolution versions of existing icons minus the box format (like in the game).

Do the 6 images I used need to be moved from "Asset Storage" to the Powers category page so that they are available for use / categorized correctly (not in the wrong place)?

I see at the bottom of that page that most all of the remaining icons are shown in the "Media" section.

I wasn't sure and wanted to ask what should be done. Can you help me with this when you have a chance? No rush as the images link correctly and no one has even looked in the storage area since they were put there. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by‎ (talk · contr). 20:56, January 18, 2018 (UTC)

Just saw your message on my talk page. I undid all of the images on the 6 pages. I was typing to you as you sent to me. I agree that they should all be the same format. I'd love to have them all be high res pics that look better but I don't have the PC version to capture the pics. If in the future they become available, I would be willing to update them if requested to.
Thanks. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by‎ (talk · contr). 21:06, January 18, 2018 (UTC)

Combined ME:A Skill Pages / ME3 Power Pages

I ran into a ME3 power page that has a Mass Effect Andromeda skill on it as well. I seem to remember a revert edit you did to a power page to remove someone adding what is really a new skill page.

Tactical Cloak

It's the first I've found during the power pages review I'm doing.

Should that portion on Tactical Cloak be moved to a dedicated "skill" page for Andromeda? I've seen lots of other skill pages with the same names as familiar power pages. I've also seen the redirect at the top of pages saying "if you are looking for XYZ skill it is here..."

Side Note - It looks like there actually is a skill page already for Tactical Cloak.

I don't play / own / know hardly anything about ME:A / MOS though.

I may find additional pages that have been placed together.

Should I strike the Andromeda section from the ME/ME2/ME3 Tactical Cloak power page? When / If I find this again, should these be reverted / undone and state "Requires a new skill page, not placed on a power page per Admin".

Thanks. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by‎ (talk · contr). 21:41, January 18, 2018 (UTC)

I will remove the ME:A information like I did with Incinerate and place a redirect to the Skills page. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by‎ (talk · contr). 15:41, January 19, 2018 (UTC)

Incinerate Skill / Power Pages

I found the same issue as Tactical cloak on the Incinerate power page. Looks like someone added the ME:A skill to that page and then someone else created a separate skill page.

I will be removing the Incinerate (skill) from that page and adding the redirect at the top of the page to the correct ME:A skill page.

I also found that the Incinerate (skill) page incorrectly listed in the Category Powers page.

Can you remove the Incinerate (skill) page from the Category:Powers page? No other skill appears on that page (that I've found so far) but instead they are all in the Category:Skills page.

Thanks for your help Temp. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by‎ (talk · contr). 15:25, January 19, 2018 (UTC)

Temp, I removed the category from the skill page and it is now gone from the powers page.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by‎ (talk · contr). 18:14, January 20, 2018 (UTC)

Flamethrower Skill Page / Incorrect Category

I found a second ME:A skill page listed in the Category:Powers section that shouldn't be there.

This should be on the Category:Skills page instead.

Can you remove the Flamethrow link from the powers page? (the link is already correctly on the Skills page)

I don't know how to move items (I may not have that ability).

Thanks for your help.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by‎ (talk · contr). 19:38, January 19, 2018 (UTC)

I figured out how to remove a category from a page. (Wow, can I miss the most obvious of things!) I corrected the page and it is now gone from the powers section. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by‎ (talk · contr). 18:12, January 20, 2018 (UTC)

Incorrect Category Page ME:A / Skill

I found a "Skill" category page on accident while searching for the "Skills" page. Looks like someone created a page in error.

The Charge (skill) page links to this page but should actually be linked to the "Skills" page.

Can you link to the correct page and remove this incorrect category?

I'd fix these errors but I am unable to edit or change these items.

Thanks for your help. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by‎ (talk · contr). 19:48, January 19, 2018 (UTC)

Temp, I removed Charge (skill) from the "skill" page and corrected it to "Skills" page.
I am unable to remove (or delete) the category page "Skill" though. I wanted to make sure that someone else wouldn't link to that again accidently. Can you delete that as an Admin? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by‎ (talk · contr). 18:20, January 20, 2018 (UTC)
I learned about the { { delete } } tag and the process to request deletion when I was fixing cite errors I found on pages. I added the tag and placed notes in the talk page like the wiki maintenance page instructions say to do.
Can you please start the deletion process? Thanks. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by‎ (talk · contr). 11:41, February 4, 2018 (UTC)
Temp, Thank you for deleting the page. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by‎ (talk · contr). 13:23, February 4, 2018 (UTC)

Power Pages Review and Updates Complete

I've gone through all of the Mass Effect 2 & 3 powers pages now (Category:Powers) and they are all standardized per the MOS standards. All redirects for ME:A pages are in place as well. Categories were reviewed and added/removed as needed. Spacing, sections, and in-game text were all reviewed.

The in-game text on a few of the pages (less than 10 pages total) hasn't been reviewed yet because I haven't unlocked the multiplayer characters yet. (5 left) The format and information on them is standardized though. Once I unlock those characters, I will review the in-game text to check for accuracy and correct as needed.

Please let me know if there is anything you see that needs to be reviewed or checked and I'll go back over them again. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by‎ (talk · contr). 18:26, January 21, 2018 (UTC)

Template Edit / Potential Addition To Template

I have a couple of quick questions for you before I embark on a potential project about over cover grabs in multiplayer.

I was editing the Combat (Mass Effect 3) page this evening and I noticed that there is a detailed description of regular and melee attacks for single player. Each multiplayer page also has regular, heavy melee attacks, and movements described in detail.

Each multiplayer page uses the template below to put that format into place.

I noticed that the ME3 combat page talks about stabbing and biotically punching but in multiplayer krogan characters just do a physical punch. (I edited the text to reword and include the physical punch as well).

This got me thinking about over cover grabs as they are different than regular or heavy melees.

I would like to add a line after Heavy Melee called "Grab" for all 65 multiplayer characters. A description of what happens when you grab a character over cover. (I've included a mocked up Human engineer below as an example)

  • Regular Melee – Punch
    • Melee Sequence: The Human Engineer executes a series of up to three punches.
  • Heavy Melee (Incendiary Omni-Blade) – The Human Engineer strikes with an omni-blade charged with incendiary energy.
  • Grab (Incendiary Omni-Blade) - The Human Engineer grabs and then stabs an enemy with an omni-blade charged with incendiary energy.

Was this type of thing ever proposed in the past?

As this is a change to a template(which I can't edit), does this require a sandbox and presentation for a vote to make this change?

I realize I would have to collect data on all 65 characters (which is easy to do but would take time). I just don't want to take the time to get all of the information if you say this is silly / unneeded / already discussed in the past and voted down, etc.

Thanks for your help and advice. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by‎ (talk · contr). 04:39, February 3, 2018 (UTC)

ME3 Combat Page Formating

I saw your edit on the Combat (Mass Effect 3) page and almost went with exactly how you changed it. The order you chose was one of three styles I was think about order wise. Before enemy types, split (like you did), or afterwards. I didn't know about the Note: . It seemed a bit "harsh" almost to me and I was on the fence. I wanted someone looking at the page to be drawn to the information but it seemed like too much. That was why I put them at the end after the text. If I had gone text only I would have done the split like you did with no notes.

Thank you for fixing the order and removing the notes. I will keep that formatting in mind in the future. On a character page or power page I would have bullet pointed it and put it in the player notes section with no note. Very few pages have that now and most are really big things. A few I got rid of as they were actually things that should be bullet point notes but some I left as they were there long before me. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by‎ (talk · contr). 04:52, February 3, 2018 (UTC)

I saw you stripped the footer out of the middle as well. Also, I was iffy on that on. It was a footer but kind of a nice table of all of the characters right there for the reader to click "show" and see them all listed or it stayed condensed in just a single line. I slightly reworded my sentence to point to the multiplayer customization page with a hyperlink. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by‎ (talk · contr). 05:06, February 3, 2018 (UTC)

Navbox Classes Template Problem / Admin Request

I found something that is way beyond my super limited knowledge of wiki. After each instance where the Template:Navbox classes listed below is used in an article, "/onlyinclude" appears (I think in error).

{ { Navbox classes } }

I did research online and tried to find an answer before writing to you but this is advanced stuff. From what I can see, part of the Classes page is turned into template that displays a small box wherever the template is used to show the original 6 classes from Mass Effect. Part of the source document is used with the onlyinclude tool (with a closing /onlyinclude tag).

For some reason, the /onlyinclude closing tag is showing up after the template box. (I can't find the Navbox Classes template on the category:templates page for this wiki so I can't review the text to learn about how they created this.)

Can you fix this error so that closing tag doesn't show up anymore wherever this template is used? (or is this an inherent problem to using the process they used?)

If there is an easy way to explain to me how to fix this, please teach me what that is so that I can fix things like that in the future. I think this is an isolated incident after doing a search for that closing tag. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by‎ (talk · contr). 12:14, February 4, 2018 (UTC)

Temp, I found the template itself using a search but it isn't listed on the category:templates page. I didn't want to add it or do anything until you've had a chance to look at the issue I brought to your attention.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by‎ (talk · contr). 12:33, February 4, 2018 (UTC)
I think looking at the source text of the template that they used includeonly and then tried to close with the wrong tag onlyinclude. But this is WAAAAAY out of my league. :) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by‎ (talk · contr). 12:45, February 4, 2018 (UTC)
Temp, I found similar code text in another navbox template for ME:A races and it looks like this closing tag should be < /includeonly >.
I put an extra spaces in the code lines below to stop them from activating the functions called out.
< includeonly >{ {#ifeq:{ {ns:0}} | { {NAMESPACE}} | }}< /includeonly >
< includeonly >{ {#ifeq:{ {ns:0}} | { {NAMESPACE}} | }}< /onlyinclude >
First, can you please correct the Template: Navbox Classes to use the correct closing tag < /includeonly >?
Second, can you add the Template:Navbox Classes to the following categories? Category:Templates and Category:Navbox Templates? (this matches other navbox templates already categorized)
It says I do not have permission to edit templates (unable to add categories either) and it is locked. Thank you. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by‎ (talk · contr). 15:47, February 4, 2018 (UTC)
